"Adopted"?[edit]

What precisely does the "Adopted" column indicate? The majority of dates are given no qualifier, and several appear to contradict themselves. An example: Flower of Scotland is shown as being "adopted" in 1974, yet the reference given is dated 2019. A bit of further digging reveals that the song first appears to have been sung in a non-entertainment context by the Scottish Rugby Union side during a tour of South Africa... in 1974. This seems to beg the question rather than answer it.--Stevouk (talk) 20:39, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Anthems used sporting events[edit]

Just wondering, would it be appropriate to add Ireland's Call as the anthem sang in sports that field a unified Irish team. The song is often accompanied with the Four Provinces Flag of Ireland. Also, should Danny Boy not be listed as an anthem of Northern Ireland as this was sang to represent Northern Ireland at the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony and finally, should Scotland the Brave be listed as an anthem of Scotland, since this song was used as the anthem to represent Scotland in the 1982 and 1986 FIFA World Cups and the Commonwealth Games up until the 2010 games — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8084:25C0:380:4099:13A5:A872:1A56 (talk) 11:17, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merger[edit]

Since Canadian provinces and Mexican states (both of which are equivalent to U.S. states) are on this article, U.S. states should be as well. Since the relevant information on the U.S. state song list is also featured verbatim on the Anthem article, its existence is now redundant and superfluous. Also suggest merging the Soviet list into here as well, since its relevant information too is featured on the Anthem article, though with priority given to merging the U.S. state song list over the Soviet one if it has to come down to it. – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 19:34, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My inclination is a partial merger: leave the raw list (i.e. the table) alone, but move most of the text other than a simple header and a an appropriate link leading to the discussion. That way the details don't crowd the discussion. Also, List of U.S. state songs has not been tagged for merger discussion. BiologicalMe (talk) 15:52, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Do not merge Upon further reflection, some states have designated state songs as anthems and other songs as different categories. I have no problem with the idea of copying the list (with appropriate attribution) and filtering out the anthems, but the two lists are different enough to make an outright merger too lossy. Closing, given the uncontested objection and no support. Klbrain (talk) 12:59, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
