Needs cleanup/Wikipedia:Not a list of companies[edit]

Aside from the first one or two sentences, the rest of the article, or the majority of of this article, is just a list of Organ-building companies (very unencyclopedic). There needs to be a major expansion of the encyclopedic material about Organ builders and the long, long list should be removed. Personally, I feel like this article meets the criteria for speedy deletion. Skyscraper Phoenix 03:30, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll bring this up at WP:PipeOrgan and see what can be done. I agree about the state of the article however.–MDCollins (talk) 11:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed to move. Task now is to remove non-notable links, and populate with links from Category:Organ builders. Suggest sort into two sections - pipe and electronic, and remove US state sections, they can be mentioned inline if necessary. –MDCollins (talk) 18:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still needs more clean up, but the article looks better than it was before. Skyscraper Phoenix 05:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did not check what this article looked like in 2007, but to me, it still looks like a list of (modern) companies with a few historic organ builders sprinkled in. I cannot tell how well this reflects the situation in other countries, but for Germany at least, it is grossly disproportionate. It would be nice if someone who really knows something about historic organs would maybe refer to this list of organ builders and add more of the really notable ones. And I am sure a number of these have deserved an article of their own in the English Wikipedia and might be worth adding to the list of translation requests. --Anna (talk) 16:41, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

External links - moved to talk[edit]

Supposedly, there may be references in here: --Ronz (talk) 21:57, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable entries should be removed from the list[edit]

This is supposed to be a list of "notable" pipe organ builders, right?

Not a list of "all" pipe organ builders?

Accordingly, I propose removing all the redlinked list entries. They can always be re-added later if sources are found that establish notability. Dlabtot (talk) 00:21, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I doubt if even a few of the redlinks will become articles. --Ronz (talk) 01:31, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a list of notable pipe organ builders, not a list of all pipe organ builders who have a website.[edit]

If you think a manufacturer is notable enough, please find sources and create an article for them. Remember that notability can not be established by a self-published sources. Dlabtot (talk) 23:13, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. If they are notable enough to have an article, list it here. Alternatively we can delete the entire article and use a category instead.—MDCollins (talk) 00:59, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What about the ones who have been dead for too long to have a website? The list of notable German organ builders for instance cannot be nearly complete. Just compare this list for instance. I am not saying that all of those are notable, but certainly many more than are listed here. The fact that some of them do not have an article in the English Wikipedia yet and will therefore appear in red only does not make them less notable, I should think. --Anna (talk) 16:24, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Switzerland[edit]

Only one of the organ builders in the Swizerland section is not redlinked WP:WTAF. It is fair to assume that most of the other entries are not sufficiently notable to merit a wikipedia article. Their presence is justified by external links to their websites WP:LINKFARM, this has been discussed some years ago, see above. Wayne Jayes (talk) 18:10, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Introducing an inclusion criteria[edit]

The list in its current state is a mess. Huge amount of entries are unsourced. Right now, it's trying to be a WP:INDISCRIMINATE collection of all organbuilders around the world, making this list unmaintainable. Therefore, I suggest that this list only includes organbuilders that is the subject of an article or own a organbuilding company that is the subject has an article. I will be carrying this out around a week later so please raise concerns if you have one. Thanks, Carpimaps (talk) 11:22, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I will be carrying this out today since no one raised any concerns. Carpimaps (talk) 00:35, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
