If Future songs are added[edit]

If a section on future songs is added as with the regular DLC list, I strongly recommend that a new column to list the source be included for each song. Also, this would need to avoid using the songs-in-playtesting lists; the sources should really be music or gaming news sites rather than from rockband.com (unless, of course, an official HMX rep says something.). --MASEM (t) 02:07, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It should be noted that for songs on the Rock Band Network they should be added according to when they are available on the game's music store. Not when they are published to Xbox Live like it states on the Rock Band Website. This is to prevent getting songs that haven't fully finished processing and publishing misinformation to Wikipedia users. --Recliner Man (t) 01:41, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Says who? It has an "Added" column, meaning it was added to the Rock Band Network on that date. It's much more reliable than just having users add them and the date for when they think songs released or were made available. It's a good official source to rely on for accurate dates, unless you have any other source you have in mind to cite dates? --Dbzwig(t) 01:22, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is a good point to make, but the date in the added column on the Rock Band site is not always in correlation to when it appears in the game's music store. For example, over the past few days, many songs were published to the Network but were not available to the music store until yesterday (20 April 2010 (EST)). This information was also confirmed by Harmonix Developer & Rock Band Forum Member HMXMister_Game List of HMXMister_Game's posts. He has been diligent for the last few weeks on updating which new songs have come to the store and that's as good a source as I can think to use. Also, my launch day info came from Rock Band Network Launch Day Press Release and I have used the reliable fansite RockBandAide and the aforementioned added (published) dates of the Rock Band site to fill in the remaining blanks. --Recliner Man (t) 12:58, 21 April 2010

Much work is needed:[edit]

There is a lot of work needed in this article:

  • Songs should be sorted by release date: This falls in line with other RB song list articles.
  • Only confirmed songs should be included: That is, only songs actually available via the in-game store should be included.
  • Prices need to go from the table: There were issues with articles being treated like catalogues, which is hard to argue against if prices are included in the table as they currently are.
  • Do not link albums when song articles are not available: The goal is to provide song information, which we aren't doing by simply linking to an album. Some exceptions can be made if an article contains information specifically regarding the backgroudn of a given song.

I will do my best to put some of these changes in place...but some (including resorting the table by date) is going to be a LOT of work. -- TRTX T / C 02:11, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will note the songs are actually sorted by release date - just that the day one releases are all alphabetical. I would think it better that songs released on the same day should be next sorted by band, but I dunno what the next best step is. --MASEM (t) 03:54, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the prices section should brought back in some form, as with the songs being sold at at least three different price points now, it would be handy to show which ones are which. The main DLC list currently notes if a song is at 80MSP or if it's free, so why not do the same for the RBN list? MightyJordan (talk) 16:20, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Prices would not work. The reason we have them on the main DLC tables is because on average, anything that doesn't cost 160 msp/$2 is exceptional. As save for a couple of 240msp tracks on RBN, there's a fair balance of 80 and 160 MSP songs, and it is also possible for the author to pull a song and change its price through the system. If in the very long run it becomes apparent that price is a significant factor for the success of some songs, we can talk about including it, but right now data is minimal for that support. --MASEM (t) 20:37, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Practice Mode[edit]

The article states that practice mode is done in 10% increments. Although that is accurate for most songs, longer songs are broken down into 5% increments, and shorter songs are in 20% increments. I'm not sure what the cutoff is for song length, if it's automatic or by the choice of the charter, but I think the general guideline is that each practice section is around 15-20 seconds long Bclare (talk) 00:03, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just spoke to a guy I know who has done some charting, he says that the program (Magma) automatically splits the song up into either 5, 10, or 20 sections depending on song length. Don't know what the length cutoffs are though Bclare (talk) 00:52, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PS3/Wii[edit]

The article states that a selection of songs will become available on April 3 (30 days after March 4), which was 10 days ago. Seeing as that's now inaccurate, should it be changed? CheddarBBQ (talk) 19:47, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's a misread of it. It doesn't say RBN starts 30 days after the Xbox live, just that songs will have a 30 day exclusivity to the Xbox once the PS3/Wii versions of the RBN storefront is running. That is, say they finally patch the PS3/Wii version on May 1. Most likely there will be a huge pile of songs that go up that have been released from the start of RBN up to April 1, but all songs since April 1 will still take 30 days to come onto the service. --MASEM (t) 20:06, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dates for PS3/Wii[edit]

Any reason not to have the dates in these columns? Given that the release rate will potentially be much slower for these consoles, it could make interesting reading to see how long certain songs take to come out after the initial release compared to others. There is no written outline for multiplatform music game DLC. We're going by what the standard is here, which is the Style. Take a look at any other music game DLC, Complete list of downloadable songs for the Rock Band series, List of songs in Guitar Hero World Tour#Downloadable content, List of songs in Guitar Hero 5#Downloadable content, List of songs in DJ Hero#Downloadable content, and List of songs in The Beatles: Rock Band#Downloadable songs track listing. Fair enough, but the case with this DLC is slightly different to the other examples you give, as, for the most part DLC follows the same pattern in those. And as we have the columns anyway, is there any reason NOT to list the dates? Anyway, I've posted something on the project page - lets see what other people think. For the RB articles, it's always been the initial date just because of the sheer amount of data being held in the table as it is. For ease of useability as well as ease of reading, we keep the initial date and just tag the song if there's some additional note neccesary. In this case, it is significantly redundant to both tag a song as being available for a specific console and then also tagging the date it was released in an extra column. -- TRTX T / C 18:04, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed - why not have just one column for each console, giving a release date if the song is available, and leaving the "no" if it isn't? No need for two columns. I do think however that release dates for each console is significant in this case, as it does show disparity between the releases for each machine. Okay - as TRTX and I are in agreement that there's no need for two columns, and as there's no good reason not to show (other than an non-existent MoS) the dates of release for all formats, given how unique the disparity in these dates between consoles is, I'm going to convert the PS3 column into a date column. Prices[edit]

Since the submitting artists/studios are allowed to choose their own price of songs (I believe they can choose a dollar amount between free and $3, but I may be mistaken in that), not all of the prices are the same. As an XNA member and creator, I can confirm that song authors are given the choice between 80, 160 or 240 MSP to sell their songs for (with no other options). Song prices for current RBN DLC can be confirmed here. ~ Josh "Duff Man" 22:38, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Error on current song list/song count[edit]

Hey, first thanks for keeping the list up, I use it all the time. Anyway, your current song count as of the 12/21/10 additions is 775, which is correct. However, you have 776 songs listed. The problem is that Robbie Suave's "Bean" from 11/2/10 is not available anymore, or never was, not sure. Just letting you know for your next edit of the song list. 1.0 vs. 2.0[edit]

  • I'd support a split. The 2.0 article is going to be changing constantly, but if we split them than the 1.0 article would be fairly stable at could be improved to Featured List status. Plus, a support 2.0 article wouldn't need a Wii column. –Drilnoth (T/C) 21:53, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Link to RBN Vault no longer works[edit]

As of 2011-02-11 (http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/12/22/happy-xmas-site-is-over/), the RBN Vault was taken down to conserve bandwidth for the site it was hosted on. Date Formatting?[edit]

Per WP:MOSNUM#Dates it seems to me that the dates are formatted incorrectly, resulting in formatting errors if the list is copy-pasted into a spreadsheet. Either the periods should be removed from the month abbreviations, and June/July should be Jun/Jul, or the months should be spelled out completely. I think spelling it out would make the table too wide, especially for those songs released on all 3 platforms. Do people agree with this proposed change? Missing Song?[edit]

I noticed that "Atomic" by Blondie is missing from this list and was curious if there's a reason for that? Are there any other missing songs?
