Sheltering Institution Names

When I completely overhauled the List of Chapters section, I used the current version of the name for each sheltering institution. This information was taken from:
1.) the information provided in the chronology appendix in the Centennial History;
2.) the information provided in the National Directory; or
3.) institution's web site, which I only visted after finding that the name I originally entered did not point to an existing Wikipedia page.

I would suggest that the convention of using the current name of each institution be maintained and that older names not be included in the table in order to avoid clutter. Also, most Wikipedia pages for institutions include a naming history. Michael07lu 21:49, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Chapter Historical Information

Insofar as this article is designed to be an encyclopedic reference containing basic information on all of the chapters of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity (namely the chapter's name, sheltering institution, date of installation, and years of activity), historical information about individual chapters, such as the circumstances of its installation, deactivation, or expulsion, should not be included. The footnotes at the end of the List of Chapters section is meant to provide explanations about the naming of chapters and other national actions taken regarding a chapter (e.g., expulsion). While historical details about each chapter may be interesting to note, they go beyond the scope of this article. Furthermore, the addition of such details would make the article hard to organize and hard to read. Michael07lu 16:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Links to Chapter Web Pages

I am deleting all links to chapter web pages. This article is designed as an encyclopedic reference listing of all chapters of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, not a repository of chapter web pages. There is no way to verify that the pages linked to from this article are "official" or approved by either the chapter or the Fraternity as representing them. Also, making chapter names into hyperlinks clutters up the table and makes it harder to read the superscript footmark notations. Though not always up-to-date, "official" chapter web pages are listed on the Fraternity's "National Directory" located at http://www.sinfonia.org/Directory/chapbystate.asp. Chapters of Phi Mu Alpha SinfoniaList of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia chapters — To match the other entries in Category:Lists_of_chapters_of_United_States_student_societies_by_society. Naraht (talk) 18:53, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Naraht left a message on my user talk page about this proposed move, and I originally responded that I had no objection. However, after looking at some of the other pages in Category: Lists of chapters of United States student societies by society, it appears that, while this article is properly placed in that category because the article does contain a comprehensive listing of chapters, the content of the article includes more information than just a chapter listing. Other articles simply named as "Lists" ONLY contain a list of chapters. Thus, I'm not sure that limiting the name of the article to "List of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia chapters" would be completely accurate or wise since the article also includes information on chapter formation (including a list of current colonies), naming conventions, and naming anomalies. • Oppose per Michael07lu, simply because only a portion of this article is actually a list (while the rest is detailed prose). I suppose, at some point, the rest of the entries in Category:Lists of chapters of United States student societies by society might be aimed towards looking more like this one. List of Alumni Associations - keep or axe?

On a "List of Chapters" page, it seems unnecessary to include a list of Alumni Associations. Not only are they not affiliated with any particular chapter, but the entire list can be found here. Unlike the Chapter pages on the ΦMA website (which are somewhat disjointed) this AA list is all-encompassing. I'd like to get some thoughts on this before I make any major changes. Regardless of the outcome, I will be removing the links to the AAs (per previous discussion re: chapter web pages). Cheers. Primefac (talk) 14:00, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Given that it's been over six months without any responses, if I don't hear from anyone by the end of the week, the list is getting axed. Primefac (talk) 20:54, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Possibility of upgrading from list status

Is there a process for doing this? I'm almost positive we could make this a real, genuine article just called "Chapters of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia." Jervis already did most of the work for us. Or is it just, edit it until it can become a Featured List and just maintain that? I do not Wikipedia often. Immortal Z (talk) 08:21, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Links to old maps in case anyone is interested in them

Map of All Chapters

Map of Inactive Chapters

Map of Active Chapters and Colonies

I'm planning on replacing these with more updated maps, but here are the old ones for posterity. Immortal Z (talk) 11:50, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Immortal Z, I'm not really sure how they're out-of-date, I've been updating them whenever something changes. I think I'm missing the last inactivity, but that's it. Primefac (talk) 16:14, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
And... now they're updated. I was correct, only Xi Pi's closure was missed (though Maryland Alpha was still on there for some reason...). Primefac (talk) 16:43, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Never mind, you've just gone ahead and replaced them. Primefac (talk) 16:45, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, totally just noticed this. You can definitely change them back if you'd like them to be on there. I hadn't actually checked them through, I'd just heard that they'd been out of date on occasion.Immortal Z (talk) 17:28, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Citations for chartering / rechartering date of the 2014/2015 chapters

Hey everyone. Due to the current state of the fraternity's publications, I'm having trouble coming up with decent citations for the younger chapter's activation dates. It is the case that, for example, Oakland University is chartering tonight (Dec. 11, 2015), but outside of the fraternity's Facebook page (which isn't really citable), I don't know how to prove that.

Any advice? Immortal Z (talk) 16:04, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

I figured out how to permalink Facebook posts, so that's fun. Used the graphics they made to announce the dates as citations. Good enough until the Red and Black or The Sinfonian comes out or whathaveyou. Immortal Z (talk) 18:37, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Phi chapter deactivation

Just leaving a note here for posterity that Phi chapter deactivated some time this year (or late 2016; working on confirmation). No good citation currently.

Immortal Z (talk) 19:44, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Confirmed with Province 29 leadership that this was made official in Fall 2016
