The correct second line to the chorus of Hash Pipe is "I Got My Eye Swipe"

I bought an official Weezer - Green Album guitar tablature book. And it has the lyrics to go along with it.

Song is about Santa Monican Transvestite Prostitute... True?

It wasn't banned in the UK, but on the BBC it was introduced as "half pipe".

Multiple versions[edit]

  • I know there are multiple versions of this song, almost like the mis-print version of "We Are All on Drugs". I bought the CD pretty early along after it came out and this track is only 2:52 in length for me and cuts out the short, interjecting guitar lick before the solo between "I got my ass wide" and "I got my hash pipe". My favorite version of this song is "Shot Himself Up" by The Shods. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.208.162 (talk) 02:31, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transvestite[edit]

Now that I've got your attention, the article used to contain a paragraph which was partly about the song meaning but also about other things. Unfortunately the only reference was to a Weezerpedia transcript of an Entertainment Weekly interview from 2001. I was able to find an interview with Cuomo on the EW.com website that matches the early paragraphs of the transcript, but I could not find the later parts of interview with more details about Hash Pipe. It seems like the print edition may have included more detail that was not reprinted on the web.

Ultimately I found a Time magazine article to verify that the song was about a transvestite prostitute but I have not been able to find sources to support other details that have been deleted from this article. -- 109.77.249.110 (talk) 21:51, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cover versions[edit]

I believe the cover version by Toto is WP:NOTABLE.
I believe I made one fair revert to a bold delete after it was properly explained.

If editors believe better sources are needed to prove notability then I will not challenge it further, but I do not think it was fair to accuse me of edit warring for asking for an edit summary and supporting an apparently WP:GOODFAITH edit from an another anonymous editor that included what looked like a good source to me. -- 109.79.85.214 (talk) 18:20, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ozzy Osbourne[edit]

Wasn't this song intended originally for Ozzy Osbourne, who turned it down, or am I confusing it for another Weezer song? I thought this was that one, but there is no mention whatsoever of this. Moline1 (talk) 00:56, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It was indeed this song. I found a source courtesy of NME and put it into the article. It didn't say what Ozzy album this would have been used for, but Down to Earth seems the most likely candidate, having come out the same year as the Green Album.
