Errors in GROL preparation softare section[edit]

I am a loyal user of the Dauntless FIVE BY FIVE softawre that was listed in the 'preparation software section.' Virtually everything listed there was incorrect and misleading and meant to show FIVE BY FIVE in a relatively bad light. I am guessing that whoever wrote this section was somehow involved with the RADIOTELEPHONE TUTOR software, which was listed particularly positively. Specifically:

It was listed that FIVE BY FIVE lets you review missed questions "one" time. This is false. Dauntless has a powerful missed question analysis feature that has no such limits. It also has many study and learning modes, saved questions, and the like.
It was claimed that RADIOTELEPHONE TUTOR has a feature that quizzes on more often missed questions. This feature also exists in FIVE BY FIVE though it was not listed as such.
FIVE BY FIVE does feature a lot of context-sensitive help. The old claim that there is 'no help file' is at best misleading and at worse false.

I have re-ordered the three software titles to alphabetical order, which is wikipedia standard. I have also added a link to Dauntless Five by Five. Maybe somebody should add a link to the others. Formatting, and Comparison of GROL preparation Software section[edit]

I redid the formatting to make the page more readable.

Done a lot of reading on how people read web pages.

More encyclopedia-like[edit]

I feel pretty good about removing most of the opinion words, but still need help with the legaleese.

Phrases like "... certain classes of United States licensed radio and television transmitters in areas under the authority of the FCC", sound reduntant, but "United States licensed" and "areas under the authority of the FCC" are not the same thing and are both in the law.

I feel "The examination to earn the Second ...was generally thought more difficult than the First.." is correct. I removed the verbiage asserting it as fact and added "generally thought" but is certainly is "citation needed" and I doubt we can find one.

Any crafty wordsmith wanna help?

I took the Third, Second and First Phone and Radar Endorsement while in high school in the 1960's. With a bit of study, didn't find any of them to be particularly difficult. Change in description[edit]

Originally the main section stated "A license that can be added to the GROL (as well as the GMDSS maintainer and the radiotelegraph licenses) is "Ship Radar Endorsement." and I changed it to "An endorsement that can be added to the GROL (as well as the GMDSS maintainer and the radiotelegraph licenses) is "Ship Radar Endorsement." As this is not an additional license, you need to have a GROL or GMDSS Maintainer license before you can get the endorsement. I added the following under the description for GROL "A PG is required to adjust, maintain, or internally repair FCC licensed radiotelephone transmitters in the aviation, maritime, and international fixed public radio services. It conveys all of the operating authority of the MP. It is also required to operate the following: any compulsorily equipped ship radiotelephone station operating with more than 1500 watts of peak envelope power, or voluntarily equipped ship and aeronautical (including aircraft) stations with more than 1000 watts of peak envelope power." International Broadcast not fixed public[edit]

I added ^{[citation needed]} to the comment about Voice of America requiring a GROL. International broadcast stations are regulated in Part 73 and there are no requirements for operator licenses in that Part. Altaphon (talk) 07:40, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
