This is one of the most amazingly bad articles I have ever seen on Wikipedia (against much competition). Did you guys even READ the fraggin lyrics? It does not liken galveston to a Woman, it clearly says "she was 21, when I left galveston". It does not say "I am afraid of dying", it says "I am so afraid of dying, before I dry the tears she is crying".

Because shallow and facetious people want to co opt any art or anything including popular songs into meaning what they wish it to mean to serve their agendas, and regardless of what the actual meaning is. The songs lyrics are not cryptic or full of hidden messages they simply describe the feelings of a soldier his fear, missing home and his sweetheart a universal and timeless sentiment. The word cannon is used in the lyric a 19th century term for artillery I have read somewhere that the song is about a Spanish American war soldier but could be allegorical to any. 82.29.135.200 (talk) 00:39, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
