The Football Match[edit]
With respect to the assertion, ‘The song is the earliest known song which refers specifically to football’ this is apparently incorrect. Since you place it in the 1880s, there is a traditional song, The Football Match (Roud 1291) which predates it. In the collection, Folk Songs of the Upper Thames it states that The Football Match was collected by Alfred Williams from Mr Pillinger in 1840. Folksongfan (talk) 16:52, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
