The song was written in 1966 and is named after a street in Tennessee. The character of Elvira was created in 1981. This blog theorizes that the name Elvira resembles the name Vampira, whom the character replaced, and also links her to a similar character in Blithe Spirit. I find no evidence for the creators' inspiration for the name, but these suggestions seem more likely to me. Hoof Hearted (talk) 13:08, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
