Wanting to add new map[edit]

To all: I noticed that the Dallas North Tollway page didn't have a map diagram like on other route pages, so I created one, at this link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dallas_North_Tollway_Map.png The trouble is, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to situate this image below the DNT signplates in the InfoBox. There isn't a clear way to do this. If someone else wants to do this, other users would be appreciative, I believe. I know I would! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikigameshow (talkcontribs) 07:38, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Historical data missing[edit]

There's no mention here (that I can see) of the original proposal, which said — I've been told all my life — that the road would cease to be a toll road once it was completed. Can we find verifiable sources for this? It's been a sore spot in my family, for one, ever since they announced in the '80s that they were extending the road north and would continue to collect tolls not only on the new section that needed to be funded, but also on the older sections that already had been paid off. Now if you stay on the road too long, you may have to pay twice or even three times, where initially you paid only once no matter where you joined the road. This might be less of an issue in a region where toll roads are common, but it's been a big deal here in North Texas, and is worth mentioning if we can find something to back up the claims. • I can't help you with verifiable sources, but here's a little more info: (1) I-30 between Dallas and Fort Worth was built as a toll road -- and, as promised, the tolls were removed when the highway was paid off. (2) You're right, the same thing was supposed to happen with the Tollway (again, I have no sources, sorry) -- but a decision was made to keep the tolls on all sections of the Tollway until the entire Tollway was completed (which, given the seemingly endless extensions, may never happen). (3) More recently, a decision was made to use Tollway tolls for other toll projects -- which basically means that tolls will continue to be collected on the Tollway as long as there are any toll-roads anywhere in Texas that need funding, which essentially means that there will always be tolls on the Tollway. (I was in favor of the previous change, but this one ticks me off.) HMishkoff 18:41, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here's something that might be of some use to you. I don't have a Dallas Public Library card, but it's a book entitled "Traffic and revenues, proposed Dallas North Tollway : prepared for Texas Turnpike Authority" 388.411 S663T at the Central library. It's non-circulating, but that might give you some information on whether or not this thing will ever get paid off. Pderry (talk) 21:25, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also: I removed language from the article that indicated that northern construction would be completed last month, which didn't happen. HMishkoff 18:41, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was just looking over the article, it mentions tolls from $0.40 to $0.75. Is that the price per toll plaza or total cost? Is it $0.75 to drive the entire length? Toll roads are becoming a reality in Texas though, with Austin opening it's toll roads, San Antonio is the last major city in Texas to have them, that may not last much longer though. --Holderca1 15:04, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The only place I've heard of that has a mandated rule (rather than a politician's promise or someone's wishful thinking) of de-tolling after the facility has been paid off is Kentucky (see the parkway system). Ufwuct 19:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know of that one, I used to live in southern Indiana and remember when they removed the toll booths from the Pennyrile Parkway. Although they may reinstitute the tolls to upgrade the highways to interstate standards for the future routes of I-69 and I-66. --Holderca1 21:29, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is that one of the big reasons that Mitch Daniels wanted to sell the toll roads on Interstate 80/90 is so that the state could get a huge lump of cash to construct the rest of I-69 between Indianapolis and Evansville. Of course, there'll probably be lots of money leftover to spend elsewhere. Ufwuct 22:31, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think they are planning on tolling I-69 from the I-64/I-164 junction to Martinsville to pay for that stretch. --Holderca1 22:46, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photo suggestions[edit]

Along Interstate 635 around Skillman, there are some old-style DNT signs mounted in non-standard places, like one on a BGS and one on a bridge post. These may disappear soon, so it would be a good idea to get a picture if anyone is in the area! I don't have anything but a camera phone, which would be sub-optimal. --Robertb-dc 14:52, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure you mean Skillman? All the way on the other side of Central? Eaglizard 04:38, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm quite sure he does; I saw it for myself a few months ago! I really did think it was strange when I saw it, but I didn't have a camera on me at the time. —Typhlosion (talk) 02:23, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

I've added one photo to the article. There are a few more on the Dallas North Tollway category on Commons. I've left the tag here since the photos I've added to commons are just from the more southern parts of DNT. --J. P. Fagerback (talk) 23:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
