Wii moment

In order to have a wii moment, you have to be willing to experiment and do things differently. I'm not sure that wikipedia can afford to do that.

Experimenting and doing things differently might be easier on non-wikipedia wikis. For example, conservapedia can decide to play around with debates, or the LA Times can try wikitorials, rather than have wikipedia experiment with it (I could just hear someone saying "NPOV is a foundational policy!!1!!")

Outside of wikipedia, I know of more people who edit wikis, even if it's just a little bit, for either work purposes or recreational purposes (fandom and the like) than people who edit wikipedia. This might indicate that social issues may be the problem, not technological ones.

I'm not sure that quality control (citations, notability, etc) is why people are scared to edit wikipedia. I think some people are intimidated by the fact that it's a top 10 web site. When I became a wikipedian, it wasn't because I decided to be a wikipedian. It was because the wrong point of view (one that had become outdated) was in an article, and I put in the right point of view (what is currently accepted). Andjam (talk) 04:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Is WYSIWYG a good thing for usability?

Are we wanting WYSIWYG to make life easier for the newbies, or to make polished documents easier? If you just want to edit a piece of text, so that it says the RIGHT POINT OF VIEW, you just click edit and edit the text in question. Having a GUI interface would require more learning.
