"Add to article" box[edit]

I've boldly tweaked this a bit, to encourage editors to add more helpful categories and stub templates.

There isn't actually a {{women-stubs}}, nor a Category:Women stubs. Editors should add a stub for the subject matter - {{Music-bio-stub}} or a subdivision of this. There aren't a lot of areas where there are stub templates and categories specifically for women, except in sports.

Again, Category:Women isn't very useful: editors should be encouraged to find more helpful categories, and there are a lot to choose from. I hope that these tweaks are felt to be an improvement! PamD 15:50, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help desk request[edit]

Hi all, over at the help desk today there's a request asking for improvement to the Kate Moore (composer) stub. Requester mentions Moore has won a prestigious prize and is the first woman to do so, which I can add, but beyond that I'm a bit out of my depth (check out the help desk post for other issues the requester mentions), so I thought I'd flag it here in case someone with more relevant expertise is interested in working on it. Thanks all, happy editing-- Innisfree987 (talk) 23:32, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quality control[edit]

A number of the articles going up are pretty feeble - no evidence of notability or indication of achievements (e.g. Susan DiBona, Brisa Roché), sourced entirely from the subject's own website (e.g. Beatriz Adriana), etc. etc. They risk discrediting the cause.....--Smerus (talk) 17:23, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticing this, let's see if we can't buff them up! T. Anthony and Fixer88, by chance do you have access to more sources that could establish notability more clearly? I'll have a look as well. Thanks all! Innisfree987 (talk) 04:51, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Alas no or not really. Perhaps there is more on Brisa Roché, but I'm not sure. I was looking through US/UK names at that point.--T. Anthony (talk) 05:27, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the addition to Brisa Roché T. Anthony, it's def looking better! There's room for further expansion but with substantial coverage in Billboard and Rolling Stone, I think the notability case is clear. Beatriz Adriana seems like she might pass too, but language limitations mean it would take me more time than I've got at the moment confirm that in sources; what I'm thinking is maybe give Fixer a few days to respond to the ping and if no answer right now, we could draftify, to preserve what's there for potential future expansion, rather than risk running into any deletion debates? Susan DiBona I'm unfortunately not finding more sources for either; I'm not sure whether we're going to be able to rescue that one, unless others have ideas? Smerus, what do you think about all this? Others have any thoughts? Thanks all, for the congenial collaboration as always! Innisfree987 (talk) 19:56, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
DiBona won some kind of music prize, but I don't know how notable it is. I just saw her on the composers list.--T. Anthony (talk) 05:53, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Really my field is more classical music, but in my opinion I would draftify or delete DiBona who doesn't seem to me to qualify for notability. Best, --Smerus (talk) 07:52, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Women in music books[edit]

Hi all, I'll be working on these but in case anyone's interested in joining me, I thought I'd mention there are quite a few entries for notable memoirs of women in music that could do with expansion/brushing up, including:

Just Kids (Patti Smith)
M Train (Patti Smith)
Girl in a Band (Kim Gordon)  Partly done Destubbed, but loads more could be added; reviews, features and interviews released around this book are abundant and highly substantive! See list on entry's talk page.
Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl (Carrie Brownstein)
I Put a Spell on You (Nina Simone)  Partly done Could particularly use help describing the contents of the book.

Please don't hesitate to add to this list! Thanks much, cheers to all-- Innisfree987 (talk) 04:49, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Chrissie Hynde's memoire Reckless: My Life as a Pretender to your wonderful list. When I find a moment will start the page if someone does not beat me to the punch! Thanks for doing this. Netherzone (talk) 00:19, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh great--thanks Netherzone! Let's keep it going; turns out there are really a lot out there!
Cheers! Innisfree987 (talk) 02:32, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Superb! This is a great project! Thanks for starting it! How about Aretha Franklin's Aretha: From These Roots and Grace Jones memoir, I'll Never Write My Memoirs. Netherzone (talk) 03:56, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Another worthy of development: I, Tina, by Tina Turner. Netherzone (talk) 04:04, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And another: Memories, Dreams and Reflections, Marianne Faithfull's second memoir (although I need to confirm the punctuation and capitalization on the title, I've seen various). Innisfree987 (talk) 05:56, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Innisfree987: I sent you a few emails about Be My Baby. I have access to reviews for this book. Let me know if you're interested. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:13, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh that's fantastic, thanks so much MrLinkinPark333, just seeing your mail, so much appreciated--I will start a draft and send you the link to it! Innisfree987 (talk) 19:09, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I've sent some sources for Clothes, Music, Boys. (For the title, I've seen references by websites using both the full name and Clothes Music Boys with and without punctuation. I'm not sure about the naming conventions for books with puncutation --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:45, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Helen Quach - image?[edit]

I created Helen Quach yesterday. She was an interesting orchestra conductor that worked all over the world, having studied under people like Leonard Bernstein and Nikolai Malko ... apparently she even made an appearance The Johnny Carson Show in the 1960s. A lot of the commentary about her has to do with her forceful temperament in spite of a frame of just over five feet tall. I think a photo would greatly enhance the entry. I found some newspaper clippings with photos on newspapers.com, but I am not sure how to clip a photo out of something like that (and even when I use web sources for photos, I always overlook some rule of fair use, like the image resolution being too high).

Anyway, if someone feels like they could help with adding a photo, I would appreciate it. I think there are a couple of things that could be potential DYK hooks and I'd be willing to nominate the entry as such, but it feels incomplete without a photo. If anyone knows anything about classical music, that's certainly not my usual area either. EricEnfermero (Talk) 14:50, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@EricEnfermero: If you have a newspapers.com account, you can use the scissors icon on the top right to clip the picture. If you don't have an account, I can clip out the image for you. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:12, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
