Colonia del Sacramento

Hello, I've done a major rewrite of Colonia del Sacramento today to expand it beyond stub-class. Please take a look at it and re-assess. JGHowes talk - 17:19, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at it today and I think there surely are some improvements. I upgraded its class up from stub. I feel like it still needs significant work to go higher. I started some comments on that page. Neagley (talk) 00:42, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 734 articles are assigned to this project, of which 117, or 15.9%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. More than 150 projects and work groups have already subscribed, and adding a subscription for yours is easy - just place the following template on your project page:

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). cyber warfare

someone, most likely paid by a certain government is editing the articles on CANDOMBE in a very bad way. its...it is some sort of fake appropreiation of culture. it is very dangerous.

are you guys onto this? the article on candombe implies that it is argentine! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.227.158.153 (talk) 09:33, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Step one: take it easy. The only problem I see is that not enough Uruguayans participate in the English Wikipedia. The nature of Wikipedia is such that wrongs can be discussed in an appropriate way (not by throwing around accusations or hinting to conspiracies by governments etc, but by learning the rules and being a "wikipedian", so to say). In this way anyone may correct the mistakes or inaccuracies. But this takes "reliable sources" also called "citations" or "references", which means that everything we write has to be based on some notable book or reliable web-source. The validity or reliability of sources can be disputed, but if there are reliable sources stating different things (one says "Candombe is only Uruguayan" the other "Candombe is also Argentinian", then we here MUST write "Source A claims this, while source B claims that". This is the way here. The more one knows the rules and policies of wikipedia, the more one can correct mistakes in the best possible way. If you do not know how to edit wikipedia properly or correct the mistakes, you may ask for help, but then of cource it depends on who you will find. Hoverfish Talk 11:25, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Uruguayan football

I notice that this project has been pretty quiet of late. Just looking to see if there would be any interest in working on football articles? Category:Uruguay national football team templates has a few templates with red links that probably deserve articles. Any thoughts? Hack (talk) 00:58, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Uruguayan Topics Template: Culture

In the row devoted to Culture there is a link to Sport and next to that Rugby in parenthesis. Why does Rugby have a special link in this template? Football plays a much more prominent role in Uruguayan culture but doesn't have it's own link in this template so why does Rugby?

Note: I have cross-posted the above message on the Template Talk page, but thought I'd place it here where it might get more notice. I will refrain from making any edit because I am not a member of the Uruguayan Wikiproject. --SargentIV (talk) 03:40, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!

  • What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
  • When? June 2015
  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Archive 3/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Archive 3/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.

Penfold pillar boxes

In 1879 Uruguay imported a batch of cast iron hexagonal pillar boxes from England, almost certainly from Cochrane & Co of Dudley, Worcestershire. It is claimed that there were nine of them and that as many as six survive. Most are painted bright yellow, and they form a minor icon of Uruguayan history. In 1993 Correo Uruguayo commemorated these early post boxes with a set of stamps in various denominations. Wikimedia has no images of either the pillar boxes or the stamps commemorating them. There are photos of these Uruguayan pillar boxes elsewhere online, but all that I have found seem to be copyright "all rights reserved".

Please will a Wikipedian in or visiting Uruguay take photographs of one or more of these pillar boxes and donate them to Wikimedia? And please will any Wikipedian philatelist with any of the stamps commemorating them take photographs and donate them to Wikimedia too? The photos would enhance the articles "Pillar box" and "Postage stamps and postal history of Uruguay".

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 350 articles in just six days. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:22, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Uruguayan punk has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A vs. an

@PurpleLand and Ser Amantio di Nicolao: Is there a convention on whether to use "a Uruguayan person" or "an Uruguayan person"? I've now been corrected both ways. Wiktionary lists "YOOR-uh-gway" as the first pronunciation for English over the closer-to-original-Spanish pronunciation "OOH-ruh-gway". I could see arguments either way, but we should be consistent. Nick Number (talk) 21:52, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever y'all decide, I have no objection. I've simply never thought of it as the former, and I don't think I've heard that pronunciation used much at all. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:08, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As the Uruguay article itself prefers the consonant-sound pronunciation, I'm leaning toward "a". But I will defer to members of the project if there's disagreement. Nick Number (talk) 04:08, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Nick Number and Ser Amantio di Nicolao: - thanks for asking. The correct way is "a Uruguayan", since Uruguay is pronounced "YOOR-uh-gway". See the Cambridge Dictionary here. Regards, --PurpleLand (talk) 16:41, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:59, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

Please, I ask you for reading and reviewing the article 2019 Latin American protests, because it was inserted false information, pretending that Uruguay is part of the "Latin American spring". Uruguay shouldn't be there.
I thank you very much for your intervention. I am concerned about the encyclopedic quality and the truthfulness of this article. In my opinion, sadly, facts have not been taken into account (please, see Talk section).
I thank you very much for your intervention to eliminate Uruguay, a country that was improperly included in that article, a country, by the way, not included in the article about the Latin American Spring, and neither in the article of esWikipedia Protestas latinoamericanas 2019-2020. Just because the truth is that Uruguay is not part of that list.
Regards,

Unknown importance articles

I've assessed a number of unknown-importance Uruguay articles to low-importance Uruguay articles, mainly stubs with limited sources about individual football players. If anyone disagrees with any of these placements, please leave a message on my talk page. ---EngineeringEditor (talk) 18:16, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conventions

A significant number of pages use American-English spellings as opposed to the British-English proposed in the Conventions section of the project page. Would it be possible to remove this convention as reconciling these differences would not be feasible considering the handful of members that this project has ---EngineeringEditor (talk) 15:34, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's been about a month and a half, I went ahead and removed the sentence on British English standardization from the project's conventions, as rectifying these issues would be difficult if not impossible. --EngineeringEditor (talk) 19:51, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder why British English was chosen as the standard for Uruguay-related articles. I'm not against it, so do the proposed change if you feel it helps the articles in any way. Onwa (talk) 22:29, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
