Track template

i've created a template for the tracks used in V8 Supercar rounds, based on the F1 track template. Being rather new to this should I just add it to the project page for all to see or do I need some sort of approval Cheebung 18:53, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

series name

Is the series (and our title article) V8 Supercar or V8 Supercars? This confusion has also led to us having both 2006 V8 Supercars season and 2006 V8 Supercar Season articles, which I've just proposed to be merged. --Scott Davis ^Talk 09:23, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Rick Kelly

V8 Supercars page

I think the name should be changed to either "V8 Supecars Australia", or just "V8 Supercars". Curently it is titled V8 Supercar, which to me talks about the actual car and not the series. I believe that the series is actually titled V8 Supercars Australia, and as the article seems to be about the series/category primarily (in the same way as Australian Football League, for example) I think the article should be named as such. To make things more confusing, the opening line of the page uses V8 Supercars, and I put the 'Australia' part on my new infobox on the left. This is essentially the same issue I raised two sections above, with no response. The website is www.v8supercar.com.au (no 's'), and it appears that website uses the singular V8 Supercar in the names of its two series. V8 Supercars Australia (with an 's') is the name of the organisation formerly known as AVESCO that runs the series. Yeah... kinda complicates the issue more. The artcile seems to talk about three things: the series, the body that runs the series, and the car itself. As I see it, all three things require different names! My personal preference would be to name it V8 Supercars Australia, and talk about the series and cars within that... much in the same way that AFL is under the Australian Football League and not Australian rules football. It just happens that the "league" (series) and "body" have the same name in this case.

Also, I thought I'd add a new section because I realised nobody had responded to your appeal earlier, and thought maybe it would get more notice with a new section. Cheers, Seth Cohen 13:34, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. help needed rolling over template

Does anybody have experience with year/season templates? How do we roll over the {{V8 Supercar Teams}} from the 2006 season to 2007? My guess is that we subst: it into articles that will not get the 2007 version, before starting to change the template, and ensure the text of any articles where info changes contains the 2006 info. Categorisation of V8 Supercar templates

I've added:

• template:V8 Supercar Team and template:V8 race report infobox to Category:Motor racing infoboxes (template:V8 Supercar Driver was already there) and
• template:V8 Supercar Teams to Category:Motor racing navigational boxes

Consider whether you want to have dedicated V8 Supercar subcategories for the template categories (as there are for Formula One and NASCAR), i.e. Category:V8 Supercar templates, Category:V8 Supercar infoboxes and Category:V8 Supercar navigational boxes. Changes in Templates

Hi, I'm currently making some changes over on the WikiProject Motorsport Assessment Page. Look in the statistics section. Only 240 articles have the template WikiProject Motorsport on it. I'm thererfore going to propose something (I think this has been discussed a while back). Can every single Motorsport article have the template on it's talk page. My reasoning for this is that some drivers have only the Formula One template on the article. However, surely (by the way, this goes for virtually all articles), they haven't got to Formula One someway. They haven't just been thrown into F1, I don't think any drivers done that. They've gone through other forms of Motorsport. Therefore, surely the Wikipedia Motorsport template is needed for every single Motorsport article?. I'm going to do a vote on this (on this page, plus the Motorsport project and all the child projects) so we can get a decision on this. Standard width for driver infoboxes

There are numerous driver articles which contain multiple infoboxes, for the different series the driver has competed in. One issue is that the various driver infoboxes are different widths, which means that the infoboxes don't always "stack" neatly - contrast Olivier Gendebien (all infoboxes the same width) with Julian Bailey (different width infoboxes). The current infobox widths are:

• 25 em: F1 driver, A1GP driver, V8 Supercar driver, WRC driver
• 24 em: Former F1 driver, Former Champ Car driver, Former F3 driver
• 22 em: BTCC driver, BTCC alumnus, DTM driver, Junior series driver, Pickup Truck driver, Infobox racing driver
• 270px (which is very close to 24em): all the NASCAR driver infobox templates

I propose that we standardise the width of all driver infoboxes at 24em, to improve the visual appearance of articles containing multiple infoboxes. Please leave comments here. DH85868993 14:26, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Category:V8 Supercar tracks

I notice that User:Greg the White Falcon has recently added Category:V8 Supercar tracks to many/most of the current V8 Supercar circuit articles. Another approach (as used by WP:F1 for the Formula One circuits) would be to add the category into template:V8 Supercar tracks; then it doesn't need to be explicitly added into each circuit article. Of course, that means the category is only applied to articles which include the template, which would presumably only be the current circuits. So, if you want former circuits to be included in the category, then you'd need to add the category explicitly into those articles OR update the template to list former circuits (like template:Formula One circuits and template:Champ Car tracks do). I recommend that template:V8 race report infobox be renamed as template:V8 '''Supercar''' race report infobox (or even just template:V8 Supercar race report, i.e. without the word "infobox"), for consistency with template:V8 Supercar Team, template:V8 Supercar Teams and template:V8 Supercar Driver ? 2007 V8 Supercar season

Hi. I have started an article on the 2007 V8 Supercar season based on the layout of the 2007 Formula One season. However I'm not sure whether to include a Results and Standing section like of the Formula One page due to the number of drivers that will drive in the season (60+ due to enduros). The 2004 and 2006 seasons have used points accumulated rather than round position for their charts (I just added 2001 table to match), just wondering about uniformity there.Falcadore 11:44, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Category:Former V8 Supercar tracks

I notice the recent creation of Category:Former V8 Supercar tracks as a subcategory of Category:V8 Supercar tracks. Something this project may wish to consider is that the "tracks" categories of several other series (e.g. Category:Champ Car race tracks, Category:Formula One circuits and Category:NASCAR tracks) don't distinguish between current and former tracks, i.e. both current and former tracks are included in the same category. When did V8 Supercars start?

I'm confused! The infobox in V8 Supercar says the series was founded in 1997. But template:Australian Touring Car Racing shows the V8 Supercar series starting in 1999. In addition, 2001 V8 Supercar championship claims to be the 6th runnning of the series (which would suggest the first one was in 1996); 2004 and 2005 both claim to be the 9th running (probably just a copy-and-paste error) and 2006 and 2007 both claim to be the 11th running (again, probably a copy-and-paste error). Think I've had this discussion before... Need to take a broader view. V8Supercar was a marketting tag originally, brought in prior to the 1997 season as an all-in catchphrase, to supersede the myriad of names in existance, Touring Cars, Group A, V8s, V8 Touring Cars, etc... The series was called at the time, the Australian Touring Car Championship (I'll abbreviate it to ATCC), a title dating back to 1960. The category managers however wanted to rebirth the series, but leaving the technical regulations alone after the extensive re-launch in 1993 which banned all-bar the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon apart from a 12 month grandfather clause for the E30 M3 BMW. The ATCC title continued in used until the series went through a restructure after the 1998 season, and the ATCC title was dropped and replaced with the Shell Championship Series in 1999 in order that anyone describing the series could only do it by mentioning the series sponsor. Shell however discontinued its sponsorship three years later and the title was replaced with V8Supercar Championship Series. The original ATCC trophy is still presented to the winner of the V8Supercar Championship Series. 1998 was the 39th Australian Touring Car Championship. The first V8Supercar Championship Series was 1999, this year is the ninth V8Supercar Championship Series, but as the title dates back to 1997 it is the eleventh V8Supercar season. The difference mainly reflects during the 1997 & 1998 seasons, the Touring car Championship did not include all of the rounds, whereas from 1999 onwards the stand alone events, most notable the Bathurst 1000, was included in the championship.

There isn't a simple answer to how to fix it within Wiki-language. While V8Supercar started as just marketting re-badge it has now become the accepted title and Australian Touring Car Championship has fallen into disuse, so much so someone tried to steal it for their own series a few years ago. Not precisely sure how to suggest to fix it. V8Supercar season would cover each season from 1999 ownwards, and with difficulty from 1997. V8Supercar themselves claim back to 1993 the year of the V8 regulation change. Australian Touring Car Championship would cover 1960 to 1996.

Championship Leaderboard

For V8 Supercars, We need to decide whether we want the point amounts for each roundon the leaderboard table eg. 2006 season or whether it should just show their position for the round eg. 2007 V8 Supercar season#Drivers Championship. Personally, I prefer the 2007 version, because it looks far more structured Shaizakopf 22:44, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

It's easy for F1 to make it looks structured because the points are the same each race you go to, and have changed little in almost 60 years of competition. The ATCC has changed if not every year, then on average, every second year. And sometimes complete philosophical changes. I've you'd won a round by blitzing all three races then it's worthy quite a bit more than if you stumbled into the round win on consistency with a sixth, fourth and second while everyone else had problems. Additionally some years points earned and round position do not co-relate, for example have a look at the newly added 1981 Australian Touring Car Championship series. Colin Bond picked up 9 points in every round he contested, essentially third for the 'round' of all seven races, and yet, his finishing position was never higher than sixth. It is not as simple as saying 'This looks better". The real question is: What do we want the table to reflect, points or race position? Some years it will do both quite happily, some we will have to choose one or the other. --Falcadore 03:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I recently created a page for the 2006 Bathurst 1000, basing it on the race page format recommended by User:The359 as used in the sports car WikiProject. I belatedly noticed, or forgot it existed previously, that this Wikiproject already had a format for V8Supercar races, although it has to date only been used once. Elfin car photos

I don't think this manufacturer is competing with it's current cars but I'm hopeful someone out there is going to the one of the Motor Shows around Australia and can take some photos of either the Clubman or Streamliner (including the 50th Anniversary edition) as there are no free use ones (as far as I can tell).
Also historic photos for the Elfin car page would be great and creation of articles for the historic Elfin models if anybody is keen and there are no other priorities. thanks - Ctbolt 01:48, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I should have some photos of these that I can help out with. Elfin was the feature marque at the 2006 Easter Historics at Mallala and there was a good entry of historic Elfin racing cars, and the new Clubman and Streamliners were the course cars. Collaboration of the Month

I suspect that it's over the top to do it for just this project - better to nominate an article now and then to the Australian collaboration of the fortnight. The Australian television article was nominated by members of WikiProject Australian television and got quite a lot of work. I don't know how much was from regular contributors to that project. ACOTF is not overrun by nominations, so there's no outstanding need for finer grained collaborations. I'm guessing it was deleted because it was probably considered too insignificant a subject to warrant an article. There are some guidelines as to what is considered imprtant enough for articles or not. Kart clubs, unless the have some special national significance I'd guess would be considered too small, but you would have to ask the editor concerned. --Falcadore 03:00, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Discussion of WikiProject Motorsport subproject reorganization and its changes to WP:AUSMOTOR

I'm bringing this up here due to the discussion currently going on at WP:MOTOR, which some in this project might not be aware of. I have brought up a proposal for the Project that would reorganize all subprojects under the WP:MOTOR umbrella to be based off of the form of motorsport, rather then specific series, like WP:WRC, or nationality, such as WP:AUSMOTOR. This is designed to prevent large amounts of overlap inbetween projects as well as to streamline projects to cover all popular forms of motorsport.

The current proposal would however greatly alter WP:AUSMOTOR. Due to this projects main area of expertise, V8 Supercars and its supporting series, being similar to WP:British Motorsport's concentration on the British Touring Car Championship, the concept is for the two to be merged into a new WP:Touring Car Racing, and joined by various other major touring car championships.

I realize WP:AUSMOTOR does infact go beyond V8 Supercars, and covers a wide spectrum of other areas of motorsport. However I believe these areas are also covered by other projects (such as WP:Sports Car Racing and the proposed WP:Formula Racing), and therefore could be moved to their care in order to standize series that use similar formulas.

This is by no means an attempt to shut down your project, nor is it even a plan. It is merely a discussion for all members of subprojects beneath WP:MOTOR, and we'd welcome an input, suggestions, or opinions you'd like to put forth on this proposal. Good and feature articles

Maybe biographical articles on retired drivers - where there is less likelihood of ongoing edit wars and vandalism. Perhaps articles like Allan Moffat, Colin Bond and Bob Morris. Sponsor team names

Can I just say at this point, can we not ever again use a sponsor based team name for an article title? With Supercheap Auto, Autobarn and Toll all shifting sponsorships to new teams that's three teams requiring new team names. Already Supercheap Auto Racing has been shifted to Paul Weel Racing, but now Autobarn Racing needs a new name (provisionally it will be shifted to Rod Nash Racing which presently #REDIRECTS to Autobarn Racing), and of course Toll HSV Dealer Team has lost Toll. This is a situation that will come up again when Brad Jones Racing lose BOC as a sponsor.

Moving the pages is not that big a deal, but redirecting all the links will take a long while.

So can I ask that anyone creating a motorsport team article please find a generic name for the team please? Thank you. --Falcadore (talk) 02:37, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I'd suggest "Perkins Engineering". The results section of Larry's article suggests that was the "default" team name when the team was "between sponsors". Also, the Jack Daniel's Racing article itself starts off with "Jack Daniel's Racing (Also known as Perkins Engineering)...." DH85868993 (talk) 14:49, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Category:Motorsport in Australia

It seems to me that Category:Motorsport in Australia is getting a bit full. I propose the creation of the following subcategories:

• Category:Australian Touring Car Championship
• Category:Motorsport at Bathurst (i.e. rather than Category:Bathurst 1000, thereby enabling inclusion of the 500 mile, 6-hour, 12-hour and 24-hour races)
• Category:Motorsport at Sandown (i.e. rather than Category:Sandown 500, for the same reason)

Good idea. Not sure if the purist will like it,as Bathurst can be muddied by 2,3,12 & 24 hour races and Sandown by their 6 hour. But I think a good idea. user:NigelPorter 4 Sept 07.

Category:Motorsport in Australia is getting full again. I'm planning to create a subcategory for articles related to the Gold Cost Champcar race (Lexmark Indy 300, 2002 Honda Indy 300, 2003 Lexmark Indy 300, etc) but I'm not sure what to call it. The "obvious" name is Category:Lexmark Indy 300 but, as per the discussion below I think it's probably not a good idea to include the sponsor's name as part of the category name, and that a more "generic" name like Category:Gold Coast Indy(car) race or Category:Surfers Paradise Champcar race would be better. The original generic name in use at the events inception was the Gold Coast Indy Car Grand Prix. Because the event was held in Australia it was able to hang on to the Indy portion of its name during the court ordered moratorium on the word 'Indy' and 'Indycar' at the height of the CART/IRL wars. --Falcadore (talk) 10:36, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Category:<year> in Australian motorsport

For most recent years, there are at least 6 or 7 motorsport-related articles in each "<year> in Australia" category (e.g. in Category:2007 in Australia, there are 10). I propose to move these articles from the "<year> in Australia" category into a (new) "<year> in Australian motorsport" subcategory, similar to the "<year> in Australian rules football" and "<year> in Australian football (soccer)" categories. 2008 V8 Supercar season

With the new V8 season about to get underway, there are still a few outstanding members of the 2008 season without articles.

As per the published list at V8 Supercar's website, Here! we are still short of articles for Michael Caruso, Garth Walden, Ford Rising Stars Racing (also known as Decina Racing) and Walden Motorsport. Plus an article on Tony D'Alberto Racing racing would also be good as they have taken over the running of the RNR franchise on RNR's behalf, the task previously performed as the Autobarn team by Independent Racing Cars Australia. If Team Dynamik do re-appear after the court case then the article for them could be tackled afterwards, but Wikipedia should not attempt to pre-empt the case. The content increase during the off-season has been excellent. New layout proposal for V8 Supercar Teams template

I'd like to propose a new layout for the V8 Supercar Teams template. The current one is a table. I'd like to change it to a Navbox and format it a bit differently so that the team names stand out from the driver names. I think that will improve its readability.

Looks good. Complaint I have, and its not reflective of your work, is that Supercheap Auto Racing should be referred to as Paul Morris Motorsport as only Ingall's car will have significant SuperCheap signage with Morris' car remaining much as it was last year with BWS & Sirromet signage. --Falcadore (talk) 06:43, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

If you're looking for additional comment, I'd not wait further. Pre-1973 Bathurst 1000 articles

I think it's inaccurate to refer to the pre-1973 "Bathurst 1000" races as the "19xx Bathurst 1000". Consider 1967 Gallaher 500. It starts like this:

Previous: 1966	Next: 1968

The 1967 Gallaher 500 was the eighth running of the Bathurst 1000 touring car race...

I think the text and succession box should be changed to:

Problem with V8 Supercar Driver template

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

V8 Supercar season

It has come to light on Talk:2007 V8 Supercar season that the title of later V8 Supercar pages is misleading without any mention of the Fujitsu series as the title 'season' should encompass all V8 Supercar racing. However, as the 2008 should have priority I have complete a first pass test page HERE, as a method of summarising the V8 Supercar season, and move this page to a specific page 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series, also creating links for the second tier Fujitsu and third tier Shannons series pages to be referenced.

I agree with the above comments about the scope of the "season" article and with the suggestion of renaming the current article as "2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series". Regarding your test page, I like the general structure, except perhaps the "Series" column of the "Race Calendar" table, which I found a little cryptic at first reading (Note that I understood it once I read the notes at the bottom of the table). Perhaps it would be better if the "Series" column was moved between the "Date" and "Winner" columns (i.e. so that you have all the columns which apply to the whole race meeting first, followed by all the columns which apply to the individual series rounds) and retitled as "Series/Round", or even just "Round". I must say just four articles, where the majority of the work has been performaed by other projects is pretty disappointing. Does anyone have any ideas?

What does spring to mind is we don't add importance tags when reviewing our articles. If in the talk page boxes for WP Australia that include the motorsport=yes tag, we should add another tag suggesting motorsport-importance= with an importance rating. Top, High, Mid and Low. GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Having quickly dashed through the collection of articles under 2009 in motorsport template, I have found the following articles do not mention who won the race/championship/title featured in the topic in the opening paragraph, or in the executive summary at the start of each of the articles.

The winner of these series or events is the most important detail of each as sporting events and they should all have this article included up top as a matter of logical writing for encylopedic content.

Proposed project: Motor Vehicles

We need a new overarching project "Motor vehicles in Australia" as it is of high relevance to the whole the Australian population and is of high economic, safety and cultural significance. There is already a project for Australian motorsport which is of lower general relevance and ought be a subcategory of a Motor Vehicles project. (I am happy to use a better name if there is one.)

The economic significance comes as a result of cars reputedly being the second most significant item of expenditure after housing for individuals, the amount spent on running costs and repairs and on modifications and the increasing relevance of climate change and peak oil to the automobile industry.

The safety significance comes from the number of deaths, years of disability, medical expenses and "wasted" GDP caused by road accidents. All pedestrians, passengers and cyclists are potentially going to be affected by the safety characteristics of the cars in which they travel or which hit them (or don't hit them because of higher quality braking systems or better collision avoidance through stability or traction control).

The cultural significance comes from brand enthusiasts, motor sport, vintage car clubs, 4WD clubs, Motoring Associations, the care lavished on cars by many people, the aftermarket modification industry, the blokey mateship culture that often exists around activities based on cars whether it be modifying, tuning, showing, racing, rallying or trialing them. Many older Australians would have done car navigation trials.

An article that ought be included in such a project, perhaps in a sub-project,is The_Dog_&_Lemon_Guide

This is a substantial improvement over the 0.7 release so well done to Aus Motorsport edittors.

There are a few of these articles the need work, Peter Brock being the most obvious it's a bit of a mess (I'm frankly astonished by it's B quality rating). Webber I believe is fine. Australian Grand Prix is in good shape except for the history section pertaining to the Adelaide street circuit (1985-1995) part of the race's history. Some of the notable races could be trimmed down or altered to reflect some of the great pre-F1 races, Clark vs Amon at Sandown '68 springs to mind. The four F1 Grand Prix races can probably best be handled by the Formula 1 wiki-project. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Horley has been nominated for deletion. The article describes an engineer. But the "what links here" goes to a guy of the sameish name who "invented incar telemetry" and competed in the 1980s Aust touring car championships. I can't find much online, can anyone confirm (with reliable sources) if it is the same guy, if he's notable for either the inventing or the driving. I prefer the new version. I don't think the next race/current points leader, etc information is necessary for a summary page like this (if people are really interested, they can always go to the invidual series pages) and, as you say, it's labour-intensive to update. Is there any reason the V8 Supercar seasons aren't linked? Also, consider whether "International V8 Supercars Championship" should be changed to "International V8 Supercars Championship / Australian Touring Car Championship", for consistency with the date range and the identification of Geoghegan and Johnson as 5-time winners (I recognise that "International V8 Supercars Championship" is the current name of the series but I think without the addition of "Australian Touring Car Championship", the table suggests that Geoghegan drove V8 Supercars, which he did not). While I do see your point, no-one ever seems to be confused Lewis Hamilton has never driven a 1.5 litre four-cylinder F1. When series get up to being many decades old there is an evolutionary process. As for V8 seaosn links, it's simply a 'yet'. This is just a beginning. Aggregated racing driver infoboxes

User:Frietjes has proposed making changes to the various series-specific racing driver infoboxes ({{Infobox F1 driver}}, {{Infobox Le Mans driver}}, {{Infobox WRC driver}}, etc) to allow them to be embedded inside {{Infobox racing driver}}, such that a driver's article may contain a single infobox covering all the different series in which they have particpated, rather than multiple infoboxes - see Andy Priaulx as an example. 2012 season articles needing work

Time for my annual post about incomplete season articles. The following series articles are little more than tables. Most of them don't even explain what they are, whether they are open wheel series, where they are held, who won the series! Apparently a series as important as DTM considers the point score system more important than the series champion.

The situation is also encouraging new editors to be likewise poor in seasonal coverage.

So while the majority of series are in hibernation perhaps we could spend a few days improving these articles.

Surely it would be more important and productive than arguing over whether Mercedes or Mercedes AMG is the correct terminiology for a constructor? Less minuatae!

2013 Clipasal 500 round winner

Hi, folks! V8 Supercars have several races per round, but they often declare a round winner to keep comparing round winners from previous decades (IIRC). So I've just opened the 2013 Clipsal 500 article, and there's none. Is it Craig Lowndes for collects the most championship points? Is there another points scale for the round winner? V8 Supercars no longer officially recognise round winners but they do keep records in case they ever revert to the old system in the future. As for who was the round winner at Clipsal...usually it's the most points wins the round but Clipsal is a special case where the Sunday winner is given the round win, regardless of points scored (this is based on the original concept for the event being a single race split into two 250km legs - sort of irrelevant now that there's two qualifying sessions). Either Lowndes or Van Gisbergen is the round winner depending on how you look at it. ^Kytabu_Talk 12:47, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

V8 Supercar race report infobox

What does everyone think of adding a pole position part for each race in the V8s race infobox? I think it would neaten up the articles from 2009 onwards, rather than including both pole winners in the one pole position part. Naming of ATCC/V8SC Event Articles

As events are changing names all he time, I suggest that we move all the articles on race events. Keep current names as redirects but each event will have an article titled '*Circuit Name* ATCC/V8 Supercars Event' and go from there. OK. Looking at Category:V8 Supercar races, the vast majority of the race history articles already have quite "generic" names based on their location - only two of the article titles (ITM 500 Auckland and Skycity Triple Crown) currently contain sponsor names. Also, I think there might be considerable opposition to Bathurst 1000 being renamed as "Mount Panorama ATCC/V8 Supercars Event" (or even "Bathurst ATCC/V8 Supercars Event"). Keeping 'Bathurst 1000' as the title of the Mt Panorama event could be an exception, but the others would not. Even Sandown - look how many names that has had; Sandown 500, Hang-Ten 400, Castrol 500 and Norton 360 Sandown Challenge to name a few - it would still be named "Sandown ATCC/V8 Supercars Event". But no, Bathurst could be an exception. It wasn't always an ATCC/V8SC event either - look at '97 and '98; the official Bathurst 1000 was for Super Touring. Continuity. And like I said earlier, the event hasn't always held the "500" name - which is why it would change. OK, Bathurst wasn't a "1000" for the 1st 10 years of the event, but it - again, like I said before - can be an exception on the basis of heritage. As an outsider to Australian motorsports, I clearly see the benefit of Holdenman05's proposed approach which is based on 'continuity'. However, as Wikipedia article title convention, the benefit cannot outweigh the article title requirements laid out by Wikipedia policies, which backs DH85868993's position. Please note 'continuity' (currently) is not a part of the criteria listed at WP:NAMINGCRITERIA, and it is a different concept to "long-term significance" in WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. In WP:AOWR and WP:NASCAR we almost exclusively use official sponsor-related names. It's really not that much trouble to move some of the articles and related redirects once a year. While some races do have a common name (ie Michigan 500, others, such as the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen do not have a common name and "Watkins Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Race" would be even less COMMONNAME than the formal name. So that's where we come out on the issue. I generally believe that the order of use should be Common Name, if none, use Official Name, and finally only if there is no official name, is it OK to use a "contrived title". -Drdisque (talk) 15:50, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

The NASCAR events have held these titles for years and are unlikely to change distance or sponsors as they are much more stable and have almost historic reasons not to change. If you look at certain events - the Barbagallo round for instance, likewise Sandown - there have been almost constant sponsor and distance changes. Sandown ATCC/V8 Supercars Event is an incredibly bad name for a V8 supercar event, as it would then group not just Sandown 500 and ancestor races together but also Sandown sprint V8/ATCC events. Which would then mean that the event would have been held twice in some years which has never, ever been considered to be the case. It also excludes Sandown 500 events which have NOT been ATCC or V8 Supercar events. Which is most of them, specifically all races from 1964-1975, 1978-2002 and 2011. WikiConfererence Australia 2015 - Save the date 3-5 October 2015

Our first Australian conference for Wikipedians/Wikimedians will be held 3-5 October 2015. Organised by Wikimedia Australia, there will be a 2-day conference (Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October) with an optional 3rd day (Monday 5 October) for specialist topics (unconference discussions, training sessions, etc). The venue is the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane. So put those dates in your diary! Note: Monday is a public holiday is some states but not others. As part of that page, there are now sections for you to:

• indicate your interest in possibly attending the conference (this is not a binding commitment, of course)

V8 Supercars race report infobox

@Falcadore, SchueyFan, Holdenman05, GTHO, and OR~Joshie93: I would like to get an opinion on a redesigned version of Template:V8 Supercar race report which I've been working on in my sandbox (template code here). As with Template:V8 supercar race, I've based it on the Formula One infobox. I think that the current design is a bit messy and overly long, especially for three and four race events (compare 2015 Tyrepower Tasmania Super Sprint with this). ^Kytabu_Talk 00:30, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Having done a bit more reading, I think the best course of action is to delete the article and add any information to Rallycross#Rallycross in Australia. Improving quality

Is anyone interested in helping to improve the quality of articles that are a part of this project? I have noted that 77% of the articles are either stub or start class, and many are incomplete (such as season pages which were started and then never kept up to date).

The first thing I was planning to do was to design and implement a standard article format for drivers, teams, circuits, events, championships and races. I have started working on a standard driver format here; criticisms are welcome. – Kytabu 08:15, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

I think that most Australian driver pages currently use Template:Infobox racing driver, while V8 Supercar drivers have Template:Infobox V8 Supercar record embedded within that. I was going to avoid adding templates until the written parts of the article were finalised. I am unsure how best to structure the career section (by series, by year, by team, etc) and how to work the early and personal life information in. – Kytabu 09:29, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

I have started on a standard team article format as well. My main focus at the moment is going through and giving unassessed articles a quality rating. After that I was going to rate those without an importance rating. Bathurst 1000 tables

I've noticed Bathurst 1000 history tables popping up on drivers pages. No problems there. My question is regarding the Super Touring / V8 war in the late 90's. The Super Touring race was the official Bathurst 1000. Ran by the ARDC, used the traditional date in October and used the title Bathurst 1000. The V8 race was a 'rebel' race run by IMG (from memory), run late October early November & I think the title was the Australian 1000? In these tables, there is usually a symbol (†) highlighting that the result was a Super Touring result (ie less important). Shouldn't the V8 entry receive this as it wasn't the official race? Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Supercars Championship driver result tables

I have thought for a while that the Supercars driver result tables currently in use are very, very messy. This is a combination of the amount of races per season, which forces us to use a small font to reduce width; the use of race numbers in the result cells which forces each result to three lines; and using an even smaller font for the actual result, making it very difficult to read at standard zoom.

I have been expanding the Scott McLaughlin article in my sandbox and have decided to have a play with the results tables. The second one follows much the same format as the tables used for other championships, but I have removed the race numbers from the result cells (this is what the header cells are for) and removed the small tags from the results themselves, as is done on some NASCAR driver tables. If you compare it to first three years here, it is neater, less cramped and much easier to read the race results, which ultimately is the purpose of the table.

The first table in my sandbox is a completely new proposal partly based on the constructor result tables used for F1. It is designed with the aim of being much more convenient to edit. The event header cells for each season could be created in a template, meaning we only have to code up the events for each season once, rather than having the code on every driver to race that season. The race results themselves can be copied directly from the championship standings table on the season page and we can use a larger font while reducing the width of the table.

It was actually the table on Craig Lowndes' page that made me want to change this. That table is unnecessarily large; either of my proposals would reduce the height by around 33% while also reducing the width and making it easier to read. – Kytabu 23:41, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments are used by Wikipedia editors to rate the quality of articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project decides to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
