@Ravenpuff: Thanks for the fine-toothed copy edit! Are you sure about the en-dash for anti–Japanese internment? Looking at MOS:HYPHEN, my read is that it was correct as it was. Regarding the "the" in The New York Times, that keeps throwing me off, since it reads better the way you put it, but the "the" is part of the paper's name, so I'm not sure what's correct. Last, is there an issue that'd make using (D‑HI) unsuitable? I think it adds a small bit of useful detail without taking up much space. {{u|Sdkb}} ^talk 08:51, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

@Sdkb: No problem. Regarding the dash: this is to make sure that "anti" applies to "Japanese internment" as a whole, as per MOS:PREFIXDASH; otherwise "anti-Japanese internment" would refer to the internment of those against Japanese people, which isn't the intended meaning here. I took out "The" from the paper's name here to be consistent with the attributive use of titles here – e.g. we'd say "a New York Times editor", but not "a The New York Times editor". As the rest of the described alumni don't have a grammatical article before each of them either, it made sense to me to do the same here for better consistency. Also, I decided to remove Senator Schatz's abbreviation because it does introduce terminology that our readers mightn't be familiar with (and which also needs a tooltip to be understood), and it didn't really seem like a super important detail to include in TFL anyway. I don't really feel very strongly about this, though, and am happy to put it back in. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 09:09, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Ravenpuff, thanks for the explanations; that makes sense! For D-HI, I feel like a good portion of American readers will understand (or maybe I'm too much of a politics nerd and overestimating...), and there's the tooltip for everyone else, but alas tooltips don't work for mobile.
