thinking[edit]

Yes - without a doubt this essay is much needed. I have much to say, but I'll think on this before I edit the page. Some thoughts:

There is a HUGE difference between "I'm sorry you" and "I'm sorry I". There is also a vast divide in cultures. Americans can often "sugar coat" things with the "I'm sorry" words - while being completely obnoxious with their condescension. Rather than say "I'm sorry", I will be blunt. I've come to appreciate the the honesty and bluntness of many of the European cultures who simply say .. "You're a damned fool". This essay and the WP:WADR essay need to be understood for the honesty that they convey. I'll work on trying to contribute to this. — Ched :  ?  04:34, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I didn't notice the talkpage had been created, so I put a comment on your edit on your own page, sorry, Ched.
Not WP:CIV! No! Not that! Fucking civility sneaks in everywhere ! OWWWWWWWWW! [Howls like a wolf.] Bishonen | talk 09:34, 5 September 2012 (UTC).[reply]
P.S. Your WP:ENGVAR point is interesting. Have you seen the perfect (and, if you are to be believed, typically American) non-apology apology by Bruce McCall quoted in Non-apology apology?
Nobody is sorrier than me that the police officer had to spend his valuable time writing out a parking ticket on my car. Though from my personal standpoint I know for a certainty that the meter had not yet expired, please accept my expression of deep regret at this unfortunate incident.

I just show little master Non-apology apology. He like. :) — ChedZILLA 23:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Self-apology[edit]

How does this essay relate to apologies one makes to oneself? On the one hand, you're saying the person you're apologizing to screwed up, on the other hand, you're admitting you screwed up. --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:29, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Haha. Now apologize to Fløqenbæm for the header typo. Then apologize for calling him an idiot. Yes, right now. [Obsessively.] The both of you don't want to get blocked for personal attacks, do you? Bishonen | talk 20:07, 10 September 2012 (UTC).[reply]
Personal attacks?! Quick, someone remove rollback! --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:29, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bloat[edit]

I added some. Any opinions? Lean and mean better? Bishonen | talk 09:51, 24 February 2014 (UTC).[reply]

Quick suggestion[edit]

How about avoiding "...if you" or "...that you" rather than just avoiding "if". "I am sorry that you are such a jerk"...? I think there is something like conditional-contrary-to-fact rule that applies here but my reasonably-well-formed sense of the English language cannot recall the rule (for which I AM sorry!).
