List of characters in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance[edit]

I want this to get to FL status. All concerns from here have been addressed. I ask of the reviewer to keep the ambitions of FL in mind when reviewing and relate comments to that. Ashnard Talk Contribs 13:52, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I still think 12 images is too many for a featured list. Article, maybe, but definitely too many for a list. However, I must at least commend the decrease from 30 to 12. Axem Titanium 21:19, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried looking for production and reception information? If it is found, it could be possible to format it into an article (see Characters of Final Fantasy VIII). Also, would it be possible to combine it with the second game's list once that is fully available in English? Having two lists that share many of the same characters seems sort of pointless. TTN 21:29, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing related to either of those; with Fire Emblem, that sort of information is probably locked in some high-security, nuclear-bomb proof cellar that nobody can access. If we were to merge lists, it would fail the stability criteria considering we would have to wait until the English versions come out until we have official information. Considering the new characters in GoD, there will always be two lists, so I don't see sense in merging. An already lengthy article will nearly double in size too. I'll be putting this up for FL tomorrow, so... any more comments? Ashnard Talk Contribs 08:30, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Focusing on the lead.

  • Gaming jargon. Recruitable, playable and non-playable are not normal English words one can use without introducing them. Just rewrite the sentence to remove the need for these words, or explain them and use them anyway.
  • Second paragraph. I had to read the second paragraph of the lead thrice to understand it even slightly. It is quite technical and at the same time does not convey a lot of information. Using fight better instead of statistical gain will do a lot towards understanding it. Maybe fight alongside or something alike instead of "being adjacent to each other for a number of battles (or turns in previous installments)." The first part of the last sentence of the paragraph is horribly technical, and the statement that "these conversations are graded A, B, and C." does not explain anything to me.
  • The article needs to make a decision between American and British English or other variants per WP:ENGVAR. I do not have a nice list of all examples here, but I did notice that "installments" is written with double "L" (my spelling checker caught it in the quote above - it's AmE) and that there is the word "armour" (BE) somewhere in the text (ctrl+f on "our " caught this one) in the text twice. Screen the article for more of these things.
  • In April 2007, I wrote an assessment on Talk:Ashnard. I noted that the only piece of out of universe information was the fact that the name of his sword is taken from Arthurian mythology. I remembered this, and now it is not in the article.
  • I can count the number of out of universe internal links in the article on two hands. Just a smattering of things I found that should be linked below. Note that this is a list of article to link to. Small bits might have to be rewritten to accommodate the links, or piped links may have to be used.

Lead -Fire Emblem -Non-player character -Characterization -Character development Main PC -Mercenary -Nobility -Pegasus Other -Hybrid (Soren) -Archer (bow user, Rolf) -Assassin -Oath -Overtraining (Calill) -Ventriloquism -Metabolism -Discrimination

I am not going through the whole article, but the above shows my general intention.. Particularly link things outside the scope of video games and roleplaying - who'd guess that Wikipedia had an article on Overtraining?
  • The template at the bottom is invisible because of the large list of references. Maybe make a template like {{Christianity}}, and put it at the top. This will also fix something else, namely the lack of an infobox at the top with some quick facts and links. Just about every Wikipedia article has one now, and it has (kind of) become part of our manual of style I would say.

Thanks Krator. I'm about to address all of your suggestions. One thing I must ask is about the templates. I really have no experience in this area to create a new one. I really see the worth to have a type that you've mentioned, but I'd need asisstance in making one. So, I'm unsure about this. As for the language, me being British, I'd like BE—but that's being selfish. I'll drop a note on the talk page to see who'd prefer what. Thanks for the comments. I hope the following comments do not come as a complete shock to you:

  1. Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. In particular, note the Scope of information section that says

"A general rule of thumb to follow if unsure: if the content only has value to people actually playing the game, it is unsuitable. Keep in mind that video game articles should be readable and interesting to non-gamers; remember the bigger picture."

I would suggest to you that this article does not follow this guideline.
  2. The primary sources should not be used as a basis for synethesis. Take for example the following statement in the article:

"The Greil Mercenaries had relatively modest objectives until they found Princess Elincia."

Now look at the primary source:

"Grandfather (Villager):Er... What I mean to say is... Don't you think running off pirates is a bit...beneath you?

Basically, you cannot transcribe a fictional source into an article as if it were a fact.
  3. There are no reliable sources to provide evidence of notability.
  4. The perspective of the article is primarily in universe, and should be rewritten from a real-world perspective.

Overall I would say that this article, as it stands, is a high priority candidate for deletion.--Gavin Collins 12:18, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for the positive review Gav; nice to know the a whole bunch of time's being wasted. Basically, I was already told this in its FL nomination. Ashnard Talk Contribs 12:45, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry about that, Ashnard. Can you provide a link to the discussion in WP:FL?
Of course: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of characters in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. The list had images, but User:Betacommand deemed them unsuitable. Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 13:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You may wish to consider transcribing the article to fancruft.net. --Gavin Collins 13:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
