From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A new set of guidelines for English Wikipedia in Singapore has been proposed below. The public especially those Wikipedia users worldwide will have to follow the following guidelines pertaining to the editing of pages in English Wikipedia which is also tighter than WP:NOT.

Usual pages[edit]

  • When adding pages, full naming must be identified before posting up.
  • To protect the privacy of people, pages that are linked to people (with their birth dates, name, school, the workplace, the phone they use or whatever) should not be posted up on Wikipedia unless it is significant. This is line with various policies, such as WP:BIOGRAPHY and the revised Children's Online Privacy Protection Act that is in United States (English Wikipedia and Wikia also is in line with these procedures to ensure we do not solicit information under the age of 18), and also under the Protection from Harassment Act that is in Singapore.
  • To protect the privacy of people, please do not list down any non-notable's NRIC number. It is for privacy reasons.
  • Do not create any offensive material or language in any pages. It will be removed immediately if it is a brand new page, or if not it will be reverted if existing information is still there.
  • Do not launch a coordinated attack involving any Singapore's Wikipedia page. It will be removed immediately if it is a brand new page, or if not it will be reverted if existing information is still there.
  • Singapore Wikipedia pages are not a commercial advertisement. Do not use any pages meant for advertising, it will permanently be removed.

Housing[edit]

  • Do not add "Blk 507 Hougang Avenue 8" or "Blk 722 Tampines Street 71" pages as these are non-notable.
  • Do not copy much of the articles from [1] into Public housing in Singapore, which has considered to be copyright violation.

Transport[edit]

  • When adding articles, do not include any unannounced/speculated things from Singapore (likewise new MRT or LRT lines) without stating a source from any first hand website.
  • For main transport pages, likewise East West Line or Ang Mo Kio MRT Station, do not copy all the MRT incidents, whether suicidal or train disruption except those that are happening (example Nitcharee incident, 15 December and 17 December 2011 incidents, Singapore MRT incident), or whatever. This contravenes Wikipedia is not a newspaper.
  • Do not include any train run numbers, train carriage numbers, the latest advertisements and list of modified/refurbished trains from other mirroring wiki websites (SGWiki, or Singapore Trains Wikia) that makes the article elite or supreme. This contravenes Wikipedia is not a directory and Wikipedia is not for fancruft. Acceptable content are naming, interior design, refurbishment, safety systems, propulsion system and basic/premium-sized information.
  • (New rule from 17 October 2017 - in response to three to four editors revamping MRT station data) Do not insert station layout, exits, and transport connections. Remember, Wikipedia is not a brochure, nobody knows where are the exits (except the terrorists or policeman in the vicinity) and transport connections can be found on the website.
  • Do not include bus deployments, list of taxis or major parts of the bus sections in Wikipedia. This contravenes Wikipedia is not a directory. This also includes bus service list on the bus interchange pages.
  • When it comes to bus fleet or any bigger information (like bus depots) relating to Singapore buses, you must follow a new format as follows:
    • "As of November 2014, the total fleet is 1380 buses"
    • "SMRT Buses have four depots: Ang Mo Kio, Bulim, Kranji and Woodlands"

Do not add excessive information of their formatting (SBS Transit and SMRT Buses).

  • Bus service pages are also redundant, such as "SBS Transit Service 20". Ensure that broken links that is not found in all web pages removed before updating. Bus route pages that are created will be deleted without further notice.
  • Do not plagiarise public domain content which is from Public Transport SG Wordpress to one or more bus interchange articles without acknowledgement. It will be (reverted) immediately.
  • Do not include private routes likewise car routes or shuttle buses, whether in creating an article.

Politics and government[edit]

  • When adding constituencies, all constituencies must state their basic information such as the exact location, start and end times, and must be categorised, who is the leading member of Parliament. Advanced information like the results for Member of Parliament and candidates in a particular constituency is available on case by case basis. Also for the Constituencies of Singapore, no advanced information pertaining to polling district (AJ04 for Aljunied GRC), is also allowed.

Shopping malls[edit]

  • Do not add in excessive information on the Shopping Malls page with plenty of research from the websites. Ensure only anchor tenants are allowed on all shopping mall pages. This contravenes Wikipedia is not a directory.

Education[edit]

  • When on their particular pages, ITE College East, ITE College Central, please ensure that the sub-sections (courses where they offer) should not be there as it contravenes Wikipedia is not a directory.
  • Do not add advanced information into the school pages, likewise those that are from the school websites. This is also called copyright violation.
