Wikipedia:WikiProject Gaelic games/Notability

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is part of the WikiProject on Gaelic games and is an outline of the notability criteria for articles related to Gaelic games.

Clubs[edit]

As "there are no specific guidelines for Gaelic games clubs"... "WP:NCLUB applies directly". August 2021

Footballers[edit]

Handballers[edit]

Hurlers[edit]

Panel members[edit]

Panel members who have yet to play a game are unlikely to be covered by WP:NGAELIC. When this question has been asked before in relation to other sports, the response has been that a "player would not pass this SNG ("subject-specific notability guideline", i.e. sport) based on that event because they didn't compete at the event" and that "there is AFD consensus from the world of [association] football, that a player on the squad for a major tournament but doesn't play will not meet SNG".

Referees[edit]

Referees and linesmen are not covered by WP:NGAELIC. Other sports guidelines also do not cover referees and consensus exists for this approach. The general notability guideline can be used instead.

Sports administrators[edit]

Members of county boards, provincial councils and other governing bodies are not normally given separate biographies unless they played at senior inter-county level, are covered by subject-specific notability guidelines (such as WP:POLITICIAN), or otherwise meet the general notability guideline. See WP:FITZ for an example of the opposition it is possible to encounter, even when an article has many references.

Tournaments[edit]

County championships (such as those at intermediate level) can be notable, but must be adequately sourced. See this AfD as an example: before (when nominated for deletion) and after (when closed as "keep").

Youth players[edit]

Youth players are not normally given separate biographies.

Even captaining an under-20 county team is not sufficient to counter opposition at AfD.
