This page is an archive of nominations from the main Football Collaboration of the Week page which have been removed because they were unable to receive a certain pre-decided number of votes.

Dino Zoff (1 vote in 7 days)[edit]

Nominated 31 August 2005; needs at least 2 votes by 7 September 2005
Reason:

It'd be quicker to state what doesn't need improving. The article is currently shamefully short considering Zoff is one of the finest goalkeepers of all time.

Catenaccio (1 vote in 7 days)[edit]

Nominated 13 September 2005; needs at least 2 votes by 20 September 2005
Reason: This is the strategy employed by most italian teams. A lot can be done to improve the article. For example, we could list teams that had success applying this strategy.

FIFA (3 valid votes in 7 days)[edit]

Was moved to Removed nominations because the collaboration became inactive for a period.

Nominated 16 September 2005; needs at least 2 votes by 23 September 2005

Some Brazilian fooballers (2 votes in 14 days)[edit]

Nominated December 27 2005; needs at least 4 votes by January 10 2006
Reason:

Articles of some famous brazilian players should be improved (e.g. Tostão, Cláudio Taffarel...), taking more recent ones as models. They deserve a better treatment.

Bayern Munich (no votes in 7 days)[edit]

Nominated January 3 2006; needs at least 2 votes by January 10 2006
Reason: Shows relevent information, relevent external links, relevent other articles and relevent categories.
Support:
Comments: Article is very thorough.

Firstly, a good standardization phase would be a good thing: we have made up an apposite template for team squads, but it is not applied on it. Secondly, I don't see how a "Transfers" section would be interesting for the article (Wikipedia is not a sports newspaper). And thirdly, the players' descriptions on "Greatest ever squad" section should be removed in my opinion. Better to approach a serious expansion of the articles on points like the team history, almost undescribed on it. --Angelo 00:00, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok. I see your point for transfers but I don't for Greatest ever squad. Kingjeff 02:32, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve McManaman (1 vote in 7 days)[edit]

Nominated January 10 2006; needs at least 2 votes by January 17 2006
Reason: I know, another Anglocentric entry - but this article is seriously terrible. Sentences run the length of small essays, over-pretentious use of words like "notwithstanding" and "thereafter" in totally inappropriate places, numerous irrelevant asides, this article is awful. Judicious editing, removal of weasel words and much TLC needed. Qwghlm 22

David Beckham (4 votes in 21 days)[edit]

Nominated 9 January 2006; needs at least 6 votes by 30 January 2006
Reason:

This was a failed featured article candidate last summer - its nomination is here. I noticed it had a lot of content, so I did a lot of work tidying it up. It's not that far off being good enough for another go on WP:FAC, but could do with some more work on his time at Real Madrid and his celebrity lifestyle stuff. With a few of us working on it, I think it could be ready for peer review after a week, and another go on FAC soon after. File:Yemen flag large.png CTOAGN (talk) 02:36, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Huge support base in Bosnia+Herzegovina should also be mentioned when considering European countries. Maybe a sub- article on the significance of ultrAslan as well should be included. And a subsection maybe on the violence between Galatasaray fans and Leeds fans etc- many people see this event as an example of Turkish hooliganism, maybe an objective article providing various perspectives, similar to those on Turkey's accession into the European Union for example? melis3514
  • As the most-recognized team in Turkey and its connections to Europe and the Muslim world, this team may well prove to be an important player in any upcoming "soccer diplomacy." Duncan Ferguson (1 vote in 7 days)[edit]

Nominated 11 February 2006; needs at least 3 votes by 18 February 2006
Reason: My recent rewrite means that the article needs peer review to ensure accuracy/NPOV. Whatever other opinions people may have of Duncan Ferguson, he's undoubtedly a compelling character and since his career appears to be nearing the end, I've made an effort to give him an article worthy of the rollercoaster ride that has been his life. A big push by the community at large could, I feel, make this an excellent biography.

Nominated February 6 2006; needs at least 6 votes by February 20 2006
Reason:
Accuracy dispute This article does not comply with the content policies of Wikipedia.
For an article to be compliant, it needs to be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), the material needs to be verifiable (see Verifiability), it cannot include original research (see No original research), and should not include unsuitable material (see What wikipedia is not).
These four principles work together and all four are required to be present for compliance.

  • The red links are confined to the players section (which appears to be a common affliction of football team pages). The page isn't "lacking a history section" – it's lacking a header for the history section, which I see you patched up. Wiggy! 16:06, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reason:

There's only a small introduction, history, playing squad and external link sections. There should be more for a top Austrian club. Here's a list of what could be worked on.

  1. A subsection in the history section for Foundation to WW2.
  2. Other subsections of the history section.
  3. An Major Championship section
  4. Noted players secton
  5. Coaches section with win/draw/loss record
  6. The red links in the players section. Even if it's just a stub. A stub can always be worked on over time.

I believe by improving this article we can create a pretty good source of information since most of the team's original info in not available in English. Thanks!

Football League Championship/Football League First Division (2 votes in 7 days)[edit]

Nominated 20 April 2006; needs at least 3 votes by 27 April 2006
Reason:

Ridiculously short - for a secondary division in a country where football is the most popular sport, it needs a huge expansion.

  • Note; It's only two years old, there won't be much more to say than the format and structure, which is all in there, so although maybe it is quite short, there isn't really any information you can put in there. Philc T+C 22:22, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Maybe Football League First Division is more deserving of expansion, as not only is it smaller, but it has a longer history, and it is the division that was replaced by the Championship. Philc T+C 22:37, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good Plan, I'll change it. Kingfisherswift 09:40, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aren't both articles more or less the samething? Kingjeff 05:20, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • They both fill the same gap in the football league system, but two seasons ago the championship replaced the first division. Philc T+C 13:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm renominating this after reading Poulsen's comments on the talk page about getting articles to featured standard. I think this article is close to FA standard and with a bit of cleanup and some more info on his time in Spain (not really my strong point) we could get it on the main page. 2. Can we say that this is "the oldest surviving competition in the world for national teams"? Kingjeff 02:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    3. Yes, I'm pretty sure this is the oldest NT football competition in the world. Bruno18 20:25, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    4. The first international football match was played in 1872 between England and Scotland, although at this stage the sport was rarely played outside Great Britain. As football began to increase in popularity, it was held as a demonstration sport (with no medals awarded) at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics, and at the 1906 Intercalated Games football became an official competition at the 1908 Summer Olympics. To be correct, it would need to qualify itself as being a national event and outside the olympics. -- Alias Flood 03:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
