- New page for George Neil Stewart - a Scottish-Canadian doctor who made a major contribution to teaching and research in physiology.
- New page for Norman Purvis Walker - a Scottish dermatologist at the Skin Department at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He was also one of the first persons in Britain to benefit from the discovery of insulin as a treatment for diabetes.
- New page for Alexander Carroll Maingay - a British physician, botanist and botanical collector.

Strategic Goal 2[edit]
Support the development of open knowledge in the UK, by increasing the understanding and recognition of the value of open knowledge and advocating for change at an organisational, sectoral and public policy level.
Outcomes[edit]
- 18 editors participated in the EAHIL Conference micro-editathon on 13 July 2018.
- 12 Articles Edited, 90 edits in total, 434 words added.
- New SPLOT resource created - How to run an editathon.
- Workshop delivered by three Academic Support Librarians from the University of Edinburgh: Marshall Dozier (user:Mafrado), Ruth Jenkins (User:Kangarooth) and Donna Watson (User:DeWatso52) with in-person support from National Library of Wales Wikipedian, Jason Evans, and remote support from Ewan McAndrew.
- Attended Playful Engagement Strategy Meeting on 1st August 2018 with a view to seeing how the experiences we have had with the Wikimedia projects to date can support the university's new Playful Engagement Strategy.
- Chaired initial discussion on 8 August 2018 about whether the university hosting a Wikimedia hackathon event would be a) welcome and b) feasible. Lots more questions than answers presently so will need to investigate.
- Joined the OCLC-RLP Wikipedia / Wikidata interest group along with Kirsty Lingstadt (Head of Digital Library), Ruth Jenkins (Academic Support Librarian) and Gavin Willshaw (Digital Curator) so the University of Edinburgh should be well-represented.

- 1 person trained at the Digital Skills workshop on 17 July 2018 - Getting started with Wikipedia: Learning Technologist Mate Varadi at the School of Divinity.
- Discussed with Mate Varadi and Job Thijssen on 12 July 2018 how Wikipedia in the Classroom assignments could work at the School of Divinity and the School of Physics and Astronomy respectively.
- Discussed with Kevin Grant on 12 July 2018 how Historic Environment Scotland might better collaborate with Wikimedia UK.
- Caught up with Hannah Evans at Wikimedia UK on 13 July 2018 to discuss the new Wikipedia UK booklet of Wikipedia in the Classroom case studies.
- Caught up with Martin Poulter, Wikimedian in Residence at the University of Oxford, on 19 July to discuss the pros and cons of the Wikipedia platform for managing assignments, the Programs and Events dashboard.
- Had 2.5 hour Skype discussion with Joe Mattazoni at the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco about his plans for a new tool to support the preparing, running, metrics gathering and aftercare involved in editathon events.
- Met with Dr Tim Kendall, Senior Clinical Fellow in Pathology / Honorary Consultant Histopathologist, and Kate Britton, Administrator for the Division of Pathology, on 9 August 2018 to discuss Tim and Kate checking through the 1st year content for image licensing and identify images to be recreated, while the OER Service's Lorna and Charlie will investigate the possibility of hiring a 2nd summer intern for 2019 dedicated to working through the original Pathcal image content and creating a spreadsheet of metadata for the images to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

Projects/events in development[edit]
- Working with Vicki Madden to organise a Mental Health Awareness event during Wellbeing Week (12-16 November 2018) at the University of Edinburgh. Also going to host Edinburgh Gothic 2018 on Robert Louis Stevenson Day - 13 November 2018.
- Continuing to liaise with Hannah Evans at Wikimedia UK about the production of a new UK-based booklet of Wikipedia in the Classroom case studies.
- Another iteration of the Wikipedia assignment in the Reproductive Biology Hons. course has been confirmed to go ahead in September 2018.
- Another iteration of the Wikipedia assignment on the Translation Studies MSc course has been confirmed to go ahead in September 2018.
- Wikipedia editing assignment for the Global Health MSc course - postponed until October 2018 due to Felix Stein working in Haiti at the moment.
- A collaboration with Michael Seery at the School of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Chemistry to be confirmed.
- Ada Lovelace Day 2018 is confirmed as going ahead at the School of Chemistry again in October 2018; working with Michael Seery and Jenni Garden. The focus this year will be on contemporary women in chemistry.
- Awaiting word from Sara Mortsell at Wikimedia Sweden about her plan to collaborate on a Wikipedia in Education knowledge sharing exercise between Wikimedia Sweden, Stockholm University, the University of Edinburgh and Tel Aviv University.
- The import of thesis collection data to Wikidata from the Edinburgh Research Archive is to go ahead now Library Developer Mike Bennett's contract is continuing. Completed necessary preparatory work; just awaiting Mike finishing developing the tool that converts ALMA library catalogue data into a Wikidata-friendly import.
- Continuing to add more data to Wikidata from the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft database. More to be added at Wikidata's 6th Birthday celebration on 31 October 2018.
- Liaising with Anne-Marie Scott, Stewart Cromar, Kirsty MacNab, Jacky MacBeath, Rachel Hosker and Navino Evans about two Vote 100 Wikipedia editathons later this semester to support a Library and University Collections exhibition.
- Liaising with the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Digital Scholarship programme to run two workshops this semester: one on Wikipedia and one on Wikidata.
- Discussing with Simon Cobb at Leeds Library and Hannah Evans at Wikimedia UK about a 'Wikidata and OpenRefine workshop' to be held later in the year.
- Writing a case study for the upcoming publication (tentatively titled) New Case Studies of Openness in the Language Classroom.
