Wikipedia:Template standardisation/article

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a template standardisation proposal for templates that appear on article pages. Since WP:TS was so successful in standardising talk page templates it may be worthwhile doing the same for those that appear in the articles themselves.

Talk page templates can all be the same style as they generally serve the same purpose. Those that appear in articles, however, can differ greatly and should be placed in various categories. It is proposed that templates be put into a category (basically equalling wikipedia:template messages) and use the standards chosen for that grouping. Even if it is decided that a particular category should not have a style standard, that is still some form of formalised decision.

Status[edit]

While the competition has not yet officially begun, you are welcome to add submissions or suggestions.

Creating a submission[edit]

You are invited to develop templates by using the framework at Wikipedia:Template standardisation/submission. The idea is to show your design using a few examples within each category. You may base your designs on any existing template (including the existing talk page template standards or the submissions of other users, by request).

For each category you must supply the following:

  • Location: Where the template is placed in the article
  • Style: A description of the style chosen for that category
  • Example(s) of the templates

You do not have to have a submission for each category type - see the voting method below. Simply remove the section in your submission if you do not want to propose a design. You may wish to consult the straw poll about template locations before creating your design – there are some opinions expressed regarding particular templates.

Suggestions[edit]

If you have a suggestion for a submission but cannot do it yourself (for whatever reason) please feel free to give a brief description of your idea below. Anybody can take one of these suggestions and use it for inspiration or develop it in collaboration with the person that suggested it.

  • Having just a symbol on the article page, perhaps using absolute positioning to place it near the article title. violet/riga (t) 23:43, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I support the absolute positioning, and wish to add an absolute text size. {Slash-|-Talk} 21:40, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Having a single line of 90% font size at the bottom of the article, perhaps with a small image. violet/riga (t) 23:43, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just replacing all the tables with <div class="messagebox plainlinks">. {Slash-|-Talk} 21:39, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Submissions[edit]

When you have created your submission please add it to the list below and add it into any of the relevant voting categories. If your submission does not include a design for a specific category, don't add it to the associated voting section.

Voting[edit]

Each category will be voted on individually and will include all the submissions for that particular category. Other options will include "no defined standard" and "talk page". The winner will be chosen by approval voting at a date to be set.
