January 1[edit]

Company identification[edit]

I am trying to find out what who the Deutsch-Am. Petrol company is. I am creating a ship article, my first one. It is the Esso Hamburg which was part of Operation Berlin (Atlantic). The manufacturer was Deutsch-Am.Petrol. In some references it is Deutsch-Am.Petrol G.F. I am assuming that Am. means American. I think it was the company owned all the ships that were seized by the Kriegsmarine at the start of World War II.Apart from that, I don't know much at all. scope_creepTalk 16:13, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a Deutsch-Amerikanische Petroleum Gesellschaft article on the German Wikipedia. Google translates the lead paragraph as: "The German-American Petroleum Company ( DAPG ) is a German oil company founded in 1890 , which has been called Esso since 1950 and Esso Deutschland GmbH since 1999 and is a subsidiary of the US-based ExxonMobil Group". BTW, this and this both have the builder of the 1940-1941 Esso Hamburg MV as Deutsche Werft A. G., Betrieb Finkenwärder, and was originally named Esso Colon MV. Alansplodge (talk) 17:50, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Coolio. Happy New Year Folks. lansplodge I was looking for somebody who is good with ships, and could possibly check the infobox. I'll have a look. This is me first ship article. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 23:20, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Searched the site. Who knew, and found [1]. Excellent expansion. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 23:24, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You're most welcome, User:scope creep and good luck with the article. If you need any more help, feel free to leave a note on my talk page; however, the folks at the WikiProject Ships talk page are also a helpful bunch and know more than I ever will. Alansplodge I spent a some time looking for that portal. Thanks scope_creepTalk 18:25, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

Can anyone identify which of these two people is Ira T. Wyche and which is Eisenhower? I think the left is Wyche... Eddie891 Talk Work 20:38, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You must be right. I don't know about Wyche but the chap on the right is definitely Eisenhower, see this image of Eisenhower for comparison. Alansplodge (talk) 21:11, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And I found an image of Wyche in this article which confirms it (scroll down about halfway). Alansplodge (talk) 21:17, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And, of course, Eisenhower is wearing four stars on his shoulder, which makes him a full-blown general. Alansplodge (talk) 21:21, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
