Prince Hubertus visits Commons[edit]

A Prince Hubertus visited the House of Commons in 1933.[1] Which one was it and what was the purpose of the visit? Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince Hubertus of Prussia, and Prince Hubertus of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg come to mind. The first one was a former Prince of Great Britain and Ireland, the second one also a relative of the British royal family, and the third one an opponent of Hitler. In the meantime, a good rummage through the bowels of Google found that "During the year [1933] Prince Hubertus, and his cousin Prince Frederich, two grandsons of the ex -Kaiser, toured the Protectorate" (South West Africa), from The Annual Register of World Events: A Review of the Year, Volume 175. I asked a friend who has NYT access to look. The article is just one sentence. It refers to "Prince Hubertus of Prussia, a son of the former Crown Prince of Germany", visiting England with "his cousin Prince Friedrich", so this'll presumably be the same traveling companions that Alan found, but I won't try to identify which Prince Frederick the cousin was.

Oh, and not surprisingly it says "New York Times", not "New Yoke Times" as per the New York Times page linked by the original poster. --76.69.46.228 (talk) 01:42, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"On Saturday morning, Prince Hubertus, of Prussia, the ex-Kaiser's grandson, and his cousin Duke Friedrich, of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, left Croydon at 9.20 a.m. in the German air liner to return home following their short stay in England. Prince Hubertus left the air liner at Amsterdam ; the Duke, however, continued on to Hamburg", from Flight International (1933) p. 358.

This would seem to be Friedrich Franz, Hereditary Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin who was an SS officer. Alansplodge (talk) 18:11, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
