Indian cricket team[edit]

Hi, I've been working on this article quite a bit and always thought it had the potential to be Featured Article. For the record, it was modelled on Arsenal F.C. and (to some extent) West Indies cricket team. It is a Good Article and is on the verge of become a Selected Article on the India Portal. What I am particularly concerned about is:

  • Lead-in, whether it seems alright for an article that is otherwise very expansive
  • History
  • Images
  • The fact that the article is somewhat listy as opposed to prose.

And many others that will surely turn up in the PR. Nobleeagle (Talk) 08:32, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IMO "de facto" national sport: Citation needed. A few comments have been embedded, please see. How about a new section "ICT in popular culture". History should be summarised, at least early history. Too descriptive. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you reckon I should transfer most of the info to History of the Indian cricket team and just summarize in the real history section?? Thanks for your comments. Nobleeagle (Talk) 00:32, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:31, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • IMP: Needs a tight copyedit. Many loose sentences. Suggest you pull someone not very familiar with cricket to copyedit it.
  • The infobox looks jaded and dull, can you have it made more appealing?
  • History should not be fragmented into subsections
  • =Colours= --> =Team Colours= -- India has also donned black during the 1992 WC. The current colours are sky blue if I'm not mistaken.
  • Having an image alongside a table is bad placement in lower resolutions.
  • Gymkhana Ground was/is not a stadium. See the pic on the Mumbai page.
  • Supporters renamed as Fan following. What about UK residents who support their ancestrial country?
  • Need graphs on performances etc.
  • Cricketers' photos if possible.
  • A map of the venues. (I'm making a base map, plotting the venues should be easy after I finish). Contact me in 2 days time for the map.
  • I suggest doing away with the section on =Captains=. It does not add any special information on the team.
  • History of Indian international cricket --> =History=
  • Selection procedure?
  • Coach, manager, physio etc -- ancillary members of the team absent. Why?
  • I think Kumble took those 10 wickets in Delhi not New Delhi.
  • Please add the speciality of the players: eg leg-spinner Prasanna etc.
  • I believe SM Gupte has an article.

That's it for now. Please have it copyedited. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:31, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments. Hope you don't mind if I strike out your comments when I complete each of the tasks. Nobleeagle (Talk) 08:36, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I created History of the Indian cricket team and compressed the section on Indian cricket team but I don't have much time today so it's very messy. Please bear with me :). Nobleeagle (Talk) 09:23, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To extend on Nichalp's point about the captains, any useful info should be merged into the history section. I think the coach may be mentioned in teh current squad section and the infobox above. The manager/physio/president of BCCI and others IMO should be only included in the current squad or in a subsection of current squad. Also Nichalp, when you say "graphs of performances," do you mean the matches India has won/lost/drew in its history. I'll request User:Raven4x4x. Btw, sorry NE for not helping you out here, my exams are getting in the way. GizzaChat © 09:38, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No worries DaGizza, I've got exams in a few weeks too and will be taking some time off. Nobleeagle (Talk) 01:11, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I'm not having as much time on Wikipedia these days, thus the lack of progress. But please continue to add your comments and I'll try and get the minor ones quickly and will work on the major ones in a few weeks. Nobleeagle (Talk) 07:54, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
