Wikipedia:Never call a spade a shovel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spade: digs holes
Shovel: moves stuff

It's sometimes said "Sometimes you have to call a spade a fucking shovel." This is incorrect. A spade digs holes. A shovel moves stuff. The fact that some folks confuse the two doesn't mean you should lower yourself to their level of ignorance -- you're a Wikipedian, aren't you?

"Fucking" doesn't help. (Shovels don't reproduce that way.) Within a smaller social circle, profanity has valid uses; emphasis, catharsis, or social bonding. The diversity of Wikipedia culture means that it's offensive to some, noise to others, and never adds value.
