The first ever St. Louis meetup was a success!

First meetup: January 15, 2011 (Wikipedia Day!)[edit]

Our first meetup was scheduled as part of the Wikipedia tenth anniversary celebrations. On Saturday, January 15, we met at the City Museum's Cabin Inn for drinks and discussion about Wikimedia projects. BirgitteSB, who is most active at WikiSource, told us some about contributing to that sister project, including copyright issues that come up there. TimVickers talked about some of his contributions to molecular biology and related his experiences working in contentious areas of the wiki. Chaser broached a suggestion by Parkwells to coordinate more with local cultural institutions to solicit content from them, which got a warm response. At the end of the meetup, Marcus Qwertyus suggested having the next meetup at a location with wifi so that we can bring laptops and edit while we are there. One possibility is to have a working meeting immediately preceding the next meetup. The first St. Louis meetup was a more social affair.

Photo-op
As a reminder, the City Museum has a policy strictly regulating photography that essentially disallows the commercial sale of photos taken there and would therefore fail to meet the standards for submission to Commons. You may photograph the event for personal use, but please do not upload these images to Commons. The one photograph we do have has been published with the City Museum's permission.

Post meetup[edit]

Nice to have met all of you this weekend. Thank you for coming, especially on such short notice.--Chaser (talk) 22:05, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
