Who should come? You should. Really.

This will be the first official meeting of the proposed Wikimedia DC chapter and we will also update everyone on our successful Wikimania 2012 bid! A post-meeting dinner will then take place, where discussion can continue.

Agenda items:

  • Discussion of our proposed chapter, including bylaws, steps involved & timeline towards Wikimedia DC becoming an official Wikimedia chapter.
  • We will also update everyone on our successful Wikimania bid, discuss what's next in the planning process, most importantly including sponsorships and finalizing arrangements with the venue, as well as keynote speakers and media relations.
  • Discuss upcoming activities that we want to do over the summer and fall, (e.g. Wikipedia Takes DC? or Baltimore? library workshops? summer picnic, meetup & tour at NARA 2) and update on our GLAM outreach & collaborations.

What, Where, When, and How?[edit]

  • When  : May 7, 2011 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, then post-meetup dinner.
  • Where : Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library, 4450 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016.
    • Metro: Red Line: Tenleytown-AU Metro Station
    • Bus: Wisconsin Ave./Albemarle St.

Wiki Takes Embassies pre-meetup[edit]

Saturday is open house day for the European embassies in DC. These events are fun and it's a great opportunity to get good photographs for Wikipedia. See List of diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. for list of all embassies and their Wikipedia pages.

There are 4 separate tours going on, and we may just be able to pick one and do it all together. Or we could split up into groups and cover more of the embassies. (what do you want to do?) It's best to get there in the morning, at 9:45 or 10 am when it's less busy but the afternoon is fun too.

Let's meet at 9:45 or 10am at the meeting spots (probably Dupont Circle, by the fountain, unless we do multiple groups) and tour Embassy Row (15 embassies).

    1. I might be able to squeeze in a bit of time to hit a couple of embassies (one of them will be an embassy of Ireland)...in all likelihood, I will be on my own anyway. To any Wikipedians, I would suggest one would try to gather relevant information for Wikipedia articles (on embassies, and otherwise).
