2022 National Nanotechnology Day Workshop

sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

As one of the web’s most visited reference sites, Wikipedia serves as a starting point for many non-scientists to learn about public health topics. Wikipedia is an openly editable resource, meaning that you can help fulfill NIOSH's outreach mission by improving the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia entries. During this training, attendees will learn the basics of how to edit Wikipedia articles and practice their skills with experienced Wikipedians.
This training and workshop is for NIOSH staff and invited experienced Wikimedians. It continues a series of National Nanotechnology Day workshops previously held in San Diego (2016), Cincinnati (2017), Columbus (2018), and virtually (2021).
NIOSH is the leading federal agency conducting research and providing guidance on the effects of engineered nanomaterials on worker health, and methods to control or eliminate exposures, through its Nanotechnology Research Center. NIOSH also created the Emerging Technologies Branch in 2019 to facilitate forecasting, identifying, evaluating, and developing guidance on potential hazards in new or emergent technologies.

Agenda[edit]

  • Training and brainstorming (1 hour)
  • Editing (3 hours)

Articles to look at[edit]

A microscope image of a ball made of agglomerated stringlike particles
An aerosol droplet containing nanomaterials ejected from a vial during sonication. Eliminating or limiting sonication and other handling processes reduces inhalation hazards.
A greyscale microscope image showing a rigid rod extending from both sides of a mottled cellular mass
A scanning electron microscope image of bundles of multiwalled carbon nanotube piercing an alveolar epithelial cell.
Electron micrograph of silver nanoparticles
