Elverum and Castrée performing in 2006

A Crow Looked at Me is the eighth studio album by Mount Eerie, a solo project of the American musician Phil Elverum. Released in 2017, it was composed after his 35-year-old wife, Geneviève Castrée, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015 and died in July 2016. Elverum wrote and recorded the songs over a six-week period in the room where she died, mostly using her instruments. The lyrics are presented in a diary-like form and sung in a raw, intimate style. They bluntly detail Castrée's illness and death, Elverum's grief, and his relationship with their infant child. It is soundtracked by sparse folk instrumentation. It was widely praised for its emotional potency. The album went on to be one of the most acclaimed albums of 2017 and of Elverum's career. 1849 – A personal dispute between actors Edwin Forrest and William Macready in New York City devolved into a riot that left at least 22 dead and more than 120 injured.
1916 – Ernest Shackleton and five companions arrived at South Georgia, completing a 1,300 km (800 mi) lifeboat voyage (launch pictured) over 16 days to obtain rescue for the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
1941 – World War II: German Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess parachuted into Scotland in an attempt to negotiate peace with the British government.
1997 – An earthquake registering 7.3 M_w struck near Qaen, Iran, killing at least 1,567 and leaving around 50,000 others homeless.
2005 – Vladimir Arutyunian attempted to assassinate U.S. president George W. Bush and Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili in Tbilisi using a hand grenade, which failed to detonate.

UEFA Cup Winners' Cup finals concluded a seasonal association-football competition contested between member associations of European football's governing body, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It was open to winners of domestic cup winners, such as the English FA Cup champions. Throughout its 39-year history, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was always a knock-out tournament with two-legged home and away ties until the single-match final, which was staged at a neutral venue; the only exception to this was the two-legged final in the competition's first year. The first competition was won by Fiorentina, from Italy, who defeated Scotland's Rangers 4–1 over two legs to win the 1961 final. Barcelona are the most successful club in the competition's history, having won it on four occasions. The competition was abolished in 1999; the Italian team Lazio were the last team to win it when they beat Mallorca 2–1. (Full list...)

St Cyprian's Church is an Anglican parish church in the Marylebone district of London. Designed by Sir Ninian Comper in a Perpendicular Gothic style, the building was constructed between 1901 and 1903. The timber hammerbeam roof features tie-beam trusses with panelled tracery spandrels. Comper's stated aim was "to fulfil the ideal of the English Parish Church ... in the last manner of English Architecture".
