Wikipedia:Labels/VE experiment edits

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page documents the VisualEditor experiment edits campaign for the English Wikipedia.

We'll be using WP:Labels to review a random sample of edits saved by new editors who participated in the m:Research:VisualEditor's_effect_on_newly_registered_editors/May_2015_study.

To get started, sign the list below ({{User|You!}}), then navigate to Wikipedia:Labels and click the "install the gadget" button. After you've installed the gadget, then go back to Wikipedia:Labels. It should now give you a large button that says "connect to server" (you may need to reload the page). It will ask you to connect to labels.wmflabs.org via OAuth.

Post on the talk page if you run into trouble or you want to discuss an edit.

Why?[edit]

We've used basic metrics (e.g. productive edit counts and edit completion rate) to compare newcomers who use VE with those who do not. We've also found evidence of a small (but significant) reduction in the amount of reverted edits that editors in the VE condition produce as well as some evidence that they took longer to save their edits. The purpose of this campaign is two fold:

  1. Learn more about the types of edits that newcomers make
  2. Narrow our hypotheses about what mechanisms could explain the observed effects

This campaign is also a good way to see -- with your own eyes -- the type of work that newcomers did during the experiment.
