I don't understand your question; could you please try asking in other words? If English isn't your first language, try asking in another language - maybe someone on here will understand. --Slashme (talk) 16:16, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's not really that hard to understand. Paladox2014 wants the three icons on the right to be recreated with a white border like the first one. Actually the first one is one of the commons:HS icons (maybe you already find appropriate icons there), a "blank" version (with only the border) which one can use as a source for the new icons exists (see gallery).
hi how would I insert the circle around the images Paladox2014 (talk) 18:31, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
could you insert the images into the circle please Paladox2014 (talk) 18:30, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To do it yourself you'd preferably use a a vector graphics editor like Inkscape. Then you can open the blank version, copy the needed icon into it and resize/align it to fit the circle. It's actually not that hard.
I could do some of the icons for you but please:
  • Check Commons:HS icons and Commons:Category:HS icons if there are already icons available for your purpose. The iconset is quite large already and we don't want to do unnecessary work in the graphics lab.
  • See if you can find a vector version of File:HILLBLU molecola.png or if you can find an alternative icon of which a vector version is available. I personally do not want to fiddle around with raster graphics.

I did the two star icons. As said above I won't do the last one without a vector source. --Patrick87 (talk) 20:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if the requester noticed, but there are already a few versions of File:Cscr-featured.svg in Commons:Category:HS icons, albeit in different colours: File:HSbra2.svg, File:HSutvald2-Grey.svg, and File:HSutvald2.svg. It doesn't really matter anymore, though, since the icons have now been made. Might I offer a suggestion, though? Perhaps File:HSPortal.svg could be used in place of the remaining graphic. Judiciary of New York new diagram request[edit]

Request:

I would like to request a diagram (illustration) of the organizational structure of the New York Unified Court System. The topic was recently on reddit.com/r/Law as a meme: its complicated enough that I think only a diagram will "give a clear picture". I would say understanding New York's legal system is an important societal issue that affects alot of people, and this will help tremendously. It would be great if it was as simple and pretty as possible (and would fit well as a small image within these type articles) so we could use it as a template for similar pages to replace diagrams like File:Organisation juridictionnelle nationale fr.gif which is not that great. Something simple like File:Organigrama eu 01.svg would do just fine, preferably with simple enough SVG I could manually edit colors and such. I quickly fixed both of the flags. You had forgotten to add the white stripes, therefore being shown transparent. Additionaly I took the liberty to change source and author information to correctly reflect from were the image was taken and who originally designed it.
One further question: You added two different license tags to the images ({{cc-by-sa-3.0}} as well as {{PD-ineligible}}). If they are PD, why do you add an additional license? --Patrick87 (talk) 14:37, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Removed the cc-by-sa-3.0 license, the PD license suffices in those two cases.--Snaevar (talk) 15:58, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s):ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN Corporation, and others.

Request: Hi, I am really concerned about the vectorized logo of ABS-CBN Corporation. The logo has a light gray box which in my opinion is just a derivative or a variation of the original logo. Although it is true that the company uses that variation (with the light gray box) from time to time, it is also noteworthy that the company uses a variation without the light gray box (transparent or just a plain white). In short, I am requesting for the removal of the light gray box. Thank you. Hollyckuhno (talk) 10:14, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Look at the file history, first version was gray backgrounded, on 9apr2012 was made transparent, reverted again to gray on 1apr2013. Try to clarify this opinion difference with http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Mediran and then you can revert it again to transparent, pls, avoid edit war :) -- Fulvio 314 16:46, 21 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fulvio314 (talkcontribs)

Reply:I was actually the one who requested to removed the light gray background before. The gray background doesn't fit to the whole logo since it has no rationale or whatsoever. All of the element of the ABS-CBN logo has rationale. "The vertical line or bar represents a tower (broadcasting tower), with the circles symbolizing its signals representing the red, green and blue or RGB colors which makes up a pixel shown on the television. The 3 divisions of the Philippines, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, are also denoted by the three circles." Beside the light gray box isn't always in color gray, mostly it is white. If you live in the Philippines and watch their flagship network, you would see that they use the variation with the white background. When it comes to opening credit of their soap operas, you would see a different variation; mostly transparent background. In my opinion, the colored box is used to make the whole logo more visible. Hollyckuhno (talk) 00:23, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the web site, it looks like they don't use the gray box. —Airhogs777 TC WS 04:00, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Per Hollyckuhno. yes, the colored box is transparent in most opening credits of soap operas; however, it is mostly white if you will watch some of its flagships or station identification. At this site the box is white and here is mostly grey. I think what my revision should be reverted since most of the logos now are mostly transparent (e.g. Be Careful With My Heart opening sequence) Mediran (tc) 08:07, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hayashi tracks & isochrones[edit]

Resolved
 – Patrick87 (talk) 00:26, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): Hayashi track

Request:

Since this is the main diagram for the Hayashi track article, I'd like it to look prettier. In particular, I'd like the evolution tracks to be in a different color than the isochrones, so that the reader has no chance of confusing the two. The stellar masses (6.0, 5.0, etc) should be the same color as the evolutionary tracks, while the ages should be in the same color as the isochrones. I don't see a need for the "1 x" in front of every age, so that should be removed. Finally, it would be great if you could vectorize the image, although if that's too much work, changing the colors is definitely the first priority. -- Bowlhover (talk) 09:57, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

There's a similar image at File:Hayashi track it.svg that only needed to be translated. It's not as precise as the requested image, though. However for Wikipedia (were everybody should be able to understand the content) it might be sufficient if not an even better choice? Tell me what you think... --Patrick87 (talk) 11:04, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick response! I've seen that image too, but it's highly inaccurate. First, the Hayashi forbidden zone for each star is the region to the right of its own Hayashi track. Stars heavier than 3 solar masses have no Hayashi track at all. There is no such thing as a global forbidden zone, so as far as I can tell, the dotted line has no meaning. Second, the graph implies that heavier stars evolve a longer distance on the HR diagram. In actuality, the opposite is true, which you can see from the diagram I uploaded: the 10^5 and 10^8 year isochrones are far apart for 0.1 solar masses, but nearly touch for 6 solar masses. In fact, stars heavier than 10 solar masses are born right on the main sequence! (This is because these stars finish contracting while still enveloped in a thick dust cloud that blocks the star's light. When the dust dissipates, the star is revealed, but by then it's already fusing hydrogen.)
As for whether my diagram is too crowded, I think that as a casual reader, you can make a better judgment than I can. If you think it is, feel free to take out the isochrones completely to show only the evolution tracks. --Bowlhover (talk) 18:52, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to disappoint you but I'm by no means a "casual reader". I'm a physicist (although Astrophysics is none of my core competencies) and therefore proper judgment isn't any easier for me, than it might be for you. However I'm always trying to put myself into the position of a layman and in this case I'm pretty sure we'll lose him already with the logarithmic labeled axes. Furthermore we have to assume the reader does not now what , or respectively stand for.
Under these considerations the SVG I proposed could be an appropriate alternative. However it should still be physically correct (and you seem to have doubts about that). So probably a compromise should be found and we either simplify the version you requested or we fix the version I linked so it doesn't contain any inaccuracies anymore. --Patrick87 (talk) 19:40, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think the best option is to simplify the diagram I uploaded. I don't think the Commons graph is easily fixable, especially because I have no idea where the data came from.
I've tried to scrape the data and plot a new graph, but unfortunately it's not very simple--spline-fitting is necessary to make the plots look reasonable, and I'm going to be very busy in the near future. So how about this:
We want a new graph that shows only the evolutionary tracks and the main sequence (10^8 year isochrone). The axes should be labelled "Temperature (Kelvin)" and "Luminosity (solar luminosities)". Instead of 3.6, 3.8, etc., the x-axis should be marked with 3980 (10^3.6), 6300 (10^3.8), etc, and likewise with the y-axis. The main sequence should be in a different color than the evolutionary tracks. --Bowlhover (talk) 22:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: I extracted vector data from the original publication and modified it a little bit (basically what you proposed initially). I think it's already an improvement and could be used in the article. However I'm not quite sure what could be done about the points I suggested. Just replacing axes labels won't work (since it doesn't get clear they're logarithmic). I already tried tracing the file to extract coordinate data but that's by far too time-consuming with the tools I tried. I also kept the axes labels. As a physicist I like them as they are, maybe it's better to just explain the meaning of the symbols in the image description. What do you think? Should we keep the image as it is now? --Patrick87 (talk) 16:33, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a chemist (quite casual reader) and I like the current form of the diagram. May I give a little suggestion? You should explain the last gray traces. One appears as an extension of 10^8 yr and the other as a partially superimposed 10^5.-- Fulvio 314 03:44, 19 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fulvio314 (talkcontribs)
I decided to change the axes labels to be more understandable for the layman [1]. Of course the spacing is still logarithmic, but that's how a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram is usually presented. I also removed the two gray lines, mostly because I have no idea what they are (they're not explained in the paper).
As an alternative, I removed the isochrones and kept only the tracks & the main sequence: [2]. For some reason, the axis overlaps with the labels in the preview, which doesn't happen when you zoom in.
What do you think? Feel free to adjust anything you want. --Bowlhover (talk) 22:29, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I don't like both for the reasons given above. I don't think it's possible to get a satisfactory result without recreating the temperature axis from scratch. Regarding the two black curves: Without them the image looks as if something was missing (well, there is something missing) so it might be worth to look into the references of the publication. The image is referenced with another paper that maybe contains an explanation. --Patrick87 (talk) 23:07, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just checked the reference: Actually the plot is taken from the textbook "The Formation of Stars" by Steven W. Stahler and Francesco Palla (doi:10.1002/9783527618675). There i found a completely reasonable explanation for the two black curves: The one on the top (near the 105 yr isochrone) is simply the isochrone. The one on the bottom (near the 108 yr isochrone) is the ZAMS. Therefore those two denote (as I already assumed) the start and the end of the evolutionary track and should definitely be kept in the graph. --Patrick87 (talk) 19:42, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I put my version into the articles a while ago. I still think this is the best option we have without having to somehow extract the data and recreate the plot from scratch. I'm closing this request as resolved for now, but feel free to leave additional comments. --Patrick87 (talk) 00:26, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
