OriginalThe Economist's Democracy Index as published in December 2011, with greener colours representing more democratic countries and clearly authoritarian countries in dark red.
Reason
It uses a good color palette, it illustrates the subject in a compelling way and is highly informative, has a free license and adds significant encyclopedic value to an article.
