Crested pigeon[edit]

Original - The Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes) is a bird found widely throughout mainland Australia. There are only two Australian pigeon species that possess an erect crest, being the Crested Pigeon and the Spinifex Pigeon.

  • It's not actually as unnatural as it seems; I was in Matong, New South Wales which is very arid (basically just an expanse of dust and heat-haze) where the pigeons scavenge grain that farmers have put out for their live-stock. The land in its natural state wouldn't be able to support them but the species distribution has greatly increased as people began farming and inadvertently providing wildlife with water and food.
