Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Contest

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is for the BLP Cleanup Broom Trophy, an unofficial contest thought up by Casliber as an upbeat way to improve Biographies of living persons on wikipedia:

(Note:Shamelessly modelled on this)

The Rules[edit]

  1. To be eligible for the trophy, one must fix an existing article on a living person which contains an unreferenced section, which must have been tagged as such for at least four weeks (i.e. not some drive-by IP addition of spurious material, but something added some time previously which really needs sourcing)
  2. Merely removing content doesn't count (we're here to build a 'pedia) but fixing it - this can be either sourcing material or replacing and sourcing differently and correctly (eg: article says Mr X was expelled from school, and source is found which says he finished with high marks/dropped out to become an actor/changed schools/whatever)
  3. The most famous person, interesting fact, outlandish fix, stranger-than-fiction fix etc. becomes the new trophy holder (until the next one comes, but in the spirit of things, the older one gets to keep their nice broom! Don't you love technology!)
  4. Any contributor can claim the trophy, and any other member can award the trophy if they think the claim is justified. There are no formal judges, and you can even funk up the award to something really weird and wonderful for someone else! Once won, anyone can be clever and change the broom to something else every once in a while..
  5. If you see a great article recently fixed by someone else, you are allowed to nominate this other person.
  6. Since this is meant to be fun, there should be no drama over this contest, and nobody should intentionally waste his/her time playing this game.
  7. If you are the current owner and you have created a more important article, you can again claim the trophy with the new article. However, as explained above, someone else still has to confirm your claim that this new subject is truly more important.
