Vavan (Persian: واوان), also Romanized as Vāvān,[3] is a village in Melkari-ye Sharqi Rural District of Zab District, Mirabad County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, and serves as capital of the district.[4]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 842 in 146 households, when it was in Melkari Rural District of the former Vazineh District, Sardasht County.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 843 people in 181 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 792 people in 195 households.[2]

In 2022, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Mirabad County, which was divided into two districts and two rural districts, with Mirabad as its capital and only city.[4]
