Hello ZFGokuSSJ1, I just noticed the cover art picture file Image:WingIIbiglogo.jpg you have uploaded has been tagged as "missing its source". Apparently missing source can also cause image deletion, so I was wondering if you, as the uploader, could provide a source for the picture. Did you scan the game's box, download it from the WC CIC or another site? If you have the source info please add it to the picture's page or leave this info on my talk page and I'll add it myself. Thanks in advance for your help. Berserker79 13:41, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Wing II[edit]

Thanks for the info, I'll try to solve the problem with that picture. At times I'm quite confused by Wikipedia image copyright policy too; I'm still not too familiar with all the details required for establish fair use for copyrighted pics. BTW, I used to be around #Wing-Commander channel a few years back and still visit the CIC frequently, but the lack of new games caused a drop in my interest for the WC universe. Also, I've seen you're a Crusader fan! I too like the Crusader series a lot and I'm trying to enhance the Crusader articles here on wiki as best as I can. If you see anything there that's missing, it would be great if you could fill in the gaps. Cheers, Berserker79 10:22, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there's always hope they get a new WC game done, BTW I wouldn't mind a new Crusader as well :). I've been looking through your website and found lots of interesting stuff; don't think there's much I've got here that's missing from your collection. Only thing I can think of is a little utility called AMF2MOD which Jason Ely sent me back then (probably bored him extensively to get it ;)), but it's no great use since you've already got the MODs. Let me know in case you'd like a copy for... "historical reasons"! ;) Berserker79 15:56, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Deusex-fixed3.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Deusex-fixed3.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 23:40, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

explanation (Deus Ex)[edit]

John Champlin Gardner wrote that "fiction doesn't deal in codes of conduct directly, but affirms responsible humanness." Deus Ex 2 is crawling with admonitions and commandments. Not so with Deus Ex. That's all. --VKokielov 14:09, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The opinion which I'm not writing down in that paragraph is that Deus Ex was for adults and Deus Ex 2 was for kids. The fact is, the difference is noticeable in the way the characters talk and the things they say. If you have a better way of putting it -- if you want to say that the characters in Deus Ex spoke more naturally than the characters in Deus Ex 2 -- go ahead. Ask me, "natural" and its ilk are all loaded words. --VKokielov 14:16, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image size[edit]

Hello ZFGokuSSJ1. When you upload fair use images like Image:Dxcover.jpg please make them smaller (at most only two thirds the size) of what you uploaded this one at, which was 640 × 795 pixels. This is necessary so as to comply with our fair use policy. Thank you. Picaroon (Talk) 03:01, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed that you've expanded this nomination to include not just ships in the Wing Commander universe, but rather significant characters in the series, races, and other concepts. I think this is a bad mistake on your part, as now the nomination covers several dozen articles on not just a narrow range of subjects, but a wide variety of considerations. Therefore, I suggest in the future you be more discreet about bundling nominations. FrozenPurpleCube 16:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you must realize that every article I nominated doesn't have any relevance to anything Wing Commander related. The only articles I can see not getting deleted because of relevance is Christopher Blair & Kilrathi. The rest can go, in my opinion. -ZFGokuSSJ1 16:47, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? I'm afraid everything you nominated is relevant to Wing Commander in some way. I certainly hope it is, otherwise your nomination is even more indiscriminate. In any case, the burden of examining the articles is still too high when they aren't clearly all of the same nature, and where such individual examination may be warranted. That's way too much to ask of people. FrozenPurpleCube 17:44, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What I don't understand is how Wikipedia is designed to prevent "experts" from actually using their knowledge before presenting their case to a counsel for agreement. I'm not trying to be offending, but I do think all of us that voted for the deletion know what we're talking about with these articles. I totally understand the burden of checking through the articles... but all of us that did vote for deletion already went through each article and concluded that they deserve to be deleted. All of us are from the Wing Commander CIC (http://www.wcnews.com), and we're the fans of the games all of those articles are talking about. I just interpreted the Wikipedia law as not accepting in-universe fiction stuff. The difference between the Millennium Falcon article and the Wing Commander ships articles is that the Millennium Falcon is actually a useful article. I bet hundreds of thousands of people read that article. I'm gonna guess a few dozen read the article for the Hellcat V. I just don't see the use of a ton of articles for separate Wing Commander ships when you can just go to a Wing Commander website where it's more appropriate. Thanks for your time. :) -ZFGokuSSJ1 18:07, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't think you do understand the process of AFD, otherwise you wouldn't be saying you, or anybody else, voted for deletion. It's actually considered quite mistaken to take an AFD as a vote, as it's not a question of numbers, but rather the actual substance of the argument. Which in this case, I think is obviously lacking. I don't know whether or not you looked at the articles before nominating them, and I certainly don't know whether or not anybody else did before saying an article should be deleted. But given that you nominated in the same bundle both various spacecraft from the series AND unquestionably major characters, I would say I do find myself doubting whether or not you gave the situation the kind of review it deserves. It'd be one thing if you just stuck to the spaceships, but you didn't even do that. You just made nominations in what I see as a rather blind manner. Perhaps you did really look over things, I don't know, I see no evidence of any discussion on your part before making this nomination, it's not on your talk page, it's not on the discussion pages of any of the associated Wikiprojects, it's not on your talk page. If it's somewhere else, where can it be read?
Note, BTW, that there is no such thing as Wikipedia law, as Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy, which means that it's the spirit that matters more than the existing policies. Nor does you being a big fan of Wing Commander means much(there is no assertion of one person being more authoritative than another, with the possible exception of foundation members. Your words have to be convincing on their own merit, not just your personal merit, which doesn't exist to me anyway. And it's quite possible there's a COI in such cases too, so it can be more worrisome.), or the number of people who might read an article(I know I for one don't expect tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of articles to be read, but that's not a reason to delete them). Seriously, you may or may not have a point about merging some of these articles, but in this case, your mass nomination was not the way to do it. While bundled nominations can reduce the amount of trouble in some cases, in others, it's important to be able to consider the individual merits of each article, and in cases like this, where the merits may be quite divergent, you've created more problems than you've solved. Fair Use image[edit]

Just a friendly reminder: Per policy, fair use images like Image:Grimace.jpg aren't allowed to be used on User pages because it doesn't qualify as a fair use of the image. Cheers, Lanky (YELL) 17:24, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ZFGokuSSJ1,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for being calm and reasonable, as well as for your work. I know AfD listings can take quite a bit of time.

In the interest of clarity: I understand you officially withdraw the AfD, correct? In that case, it's probably best to close the AfD to avoid any prejudice with regard to the follow-up AfDs. Any objections?

Cheers, -- Seed 2.0 18:56, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, before I withdraw it, I just wanted to ask a question... Is it okay if I categorize every article for a future attempt for deletion? It'd all be categorized by ships/characters/the rest. -ZFGokuSSJ1 19:10, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it might be acceptable to do so, but I would recommend nominating only a small number of articles in a single batch (and only one batch at a time for each type). FrozenPurpleCube 20:14, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, in theory, yes. Nominating only a small number of articles has several advantages though, like FrozenPurpleCube mentioned. Generally, you should only list articles that are so similar that they could be judged as a whole. To name an example: if all article about ships suffer from the same fundamental flaw (as in policy violation) which affects all of them to about an equal degree, then they should be listed in a group. Articles for which different policies apply should preferably not be listed in a group nom unless there's a good reason. Cheers, -- Seed 2.0 21:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just went through all 122 articles you nominated and removed the defunct AfD notices. Most of them were still there. I know it must have been at least as much work putting them there in the first place, but in future please clean up after yourself in a situation like this. Elton John flaming edit[edit]

Hi, flamboyant is about architecture and directs to flaming (adjective). Benjiboi 14:29, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grrrrr! I don't know how to tell you politely that you stuffed up at least 24 hours of hard work that I put in trying to cite all the information in that article, much of which had been written and left uncited by other editors.

Fortunately, by sheer good luck, I happened to notice that, in the references section, the letter that Leonardo wrote to Lud the Moor suddenly had been referenced 18 times, instead of a mere once or twice. I then discovered that one of my most important reference books had gone missing completely! After discovering this, it then took me a while to work out who had done exactly what to bring this problem about.

What had happened was that you had mistakenly, and obviously without actually checking where the references went to, presumed that <....DA> and <Leonardo Letter to Ludvico..> etc etc etc, whenever they followed each other, were all the same thing and needed merging. They were not. Wherever there appeared to be two references , there were, in fact two references! I've put it all back! But pleeeaaase take more care and actually look at what you are changing before you change it.

With regards to the spelling. The word equestrian had a letter left out. The other spelling was English, not US. Please don't changed s to z in "-ise" or delete double letters before the "-ed" or "-ing" because it makes us of the Commonwealth rather cross.

I do realise that you were trying to be helpful and that the problem occurred accidentally. It's fixed now. Amandajm 08:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Access dates. these require an ordinary hyphen as in: 2007-10-05 If you use a different format, they don't work.
The problem is simply this. You changed several of them, but you didn't look to see if what you had done had worked. I've just wasted half an hour tracking backwards through the references to find them and fix them. It takes that long, because my computer is incredibly decrepit. The article is up as an FAC. I am desparately trying to source some valuable info that I didn't write, which is very time consuming, and I get really cross when people make changes and don't use the Show preview facility, which would have warned you immediately that your adjustment hadn't worked, because it caused all the dates to appear in red, instead of blue.
I know I sound terrible grouchy, but please use the Preview function. I make mistakes all the time when I'm doing references, so I just have to keep checking to make sure that half the article hasn't disappeared, simply because I've omitted a / . Amandajm 12:12, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yeslogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Friendsalbum.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Friendsalbum.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:52, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dawnultimate.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dawnultimate.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 23:57, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Corfront.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Corfront.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please update your status with WP:VG[edit]

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello ZFGokuSSJ1! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 943 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Sean Penney - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 20:24, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm contacting you as a significant contributor to Elton John. I am concerned that such a high profile article on a living person is so poorly sourced. It is a matter of priority that statements are sourced. See Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Quotations from Elton John or any other person must be closely cited, as per Wikipedia:Quotations. If reliable sources cannot be found then all contentious material should be removed - [1]. It is better for us to have no material at all than to have incorrect, misleading or potentially libelous material. Will you help to source the article? SilkTork *YES! 10:56, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Sean Penney has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Outside a few interviews focused exclusively on the games he's made, no sources could be found on this BLP.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nifboy (talk) 18:18, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable fair use File:Levon-fra.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Levon-fra.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
