AWA Super Challenge[edit]

Ive been trying to find out info on an angle used by the AWA during its last gasp. It was someting like the 'super team challenge' or something. The whole promotion was divided into 3 teams and competed for a million bucks. I think Zbysko had a team and Sgt Slaughter had one too. Do you remember this? Youngamerican 5 July 2005 13:38 (UTC)

  • Yes, I remember that. I did a google search and found it under "AWA Team Challenge Series". It lasted from October 1, 1989 until August 11, 1990. It was Zbysko, Slaughter, Baron Von Raschke and Col. DeBeers who headed the teams. Zbysko's "Larry's Legends" team won with 56 points. "Baron's Blitzers" was second with 51 and "Slaughter's Snipers" & "DeBeers' Diamondcutters" tied at third with 48 points. Here is a link to much of the AWA's special events & where I found this info:

http://www.100megsfree4.com/wiawrestling/pages/old/awacards.htm

Hope this helps!

By looking at your user page, I get the impression that you live in West Virginia. I live in Cross Lanes just outside of Charleston. Cool to meet a fellow West Virginian on Wikipedia if that is where you live.

How to get to Yeager Scholars...[edit]

You actually showed up on my watchlist after an Antioch College edit, and I clicked on your username because you had an edit summary (I love edit summaries), and then I wanted to know what a Yeager Scholar was... yep, that was my route.

Also, very nice work on the hot dog variations. I like them Chicago-style myself. Philthecow 20:35, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

I am not sure if anyone told you, but the nominator of the article for merging retracted his vote, changing it to keep. For some odd reason, the VFD is still up. I wish to ask you if you want to relook at the article and see if you wish to change your vote based on the expansion of the article. Thank you. Robert Byrd Page[edit]

Thanks for the compromise on the Robert Byrd page re: his recent remarks comparing the "jungles of Africa" to American inner cities. I think your context is appropriate and much better than some of the knee-jerk whitewashing/erasing of Byrd's past that other editors have tried to impose on the entry. Good show.

Don't you hate it when real life gets in the way of Wikipedia? Joyous (talk) 17:53, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you know or not, but just in case, I thought I would mention the vote-for-deletion has restarted from scratch at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Janelle Pierzina 2. Last time your vote was discounted by the admin because you didn't state a reason for the vote. This new vote is an opportunity to have your vote count, if you wish. I hope you choose to participate. Thanks. --rob 14:36, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Template:WV Highways[edit]

Template:WV Highways was started by some of in the state, and we have been working on it. A user from California has been pushing for it to be deleted. He wants it similar to California, WV is not CA. Can we get some support to keep from a fellow WVer?

Body Parts slang[edit]

This[1] seems to have been a definite Keep. Parts of it in the beginning are common knowledge, altough you are right...the rest does drify of into NOR and random info. This really needs to be removed as well, but it passe AfD....oh well. Weetabix[edit]

Are you sure that the Weetabix sold in the US is organic? The UK version is not by default organic (otherwise, they'd have (a) publicised the fact and (b) wouldn't sell a separate "organic" variant). Fourohfour 19:34, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Keg party[edit]

Thanks for your note about keg party. I’m still skeptical, but I don’t feel strongly about it. I’ll wait and see what you come up with. I tend to rather dislike Wikipedia entries that are merely dictionary definitions or entries that only restate the title. You may observe that in the article in question, one could replace the word keg with, perhaps, margarita, martini, wine, or any number of other beverages and the definition would still be perfectly correct. ♠DanMS 04:50, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ianblair23's RfA[edit]

G'day Youngamerican,

I would like to thank you for supporting me on my RfA. It closed with the final tally of 57/0/0. I can only hope I can live up to the expectations that this wonderful community of ours demands from each of its administrators. With regard to your comments, I couldn't agree with you more. We need more admins from my part of the world to fight the vandals when your part is getting some much needed rest. If you ever need anything, please just let me know. Cheers! -- Ianblair23 (talk) 05:10, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Message?[edit]

How do I make my own welcome message for new users? I was trying to help a noob out today and, after a couple of failed attempts, used yours (with an express note that I was blatantly ripping yours off). I figured, however, that the interests of improving the experience for a new user trumped all else. Cheers. Youngamerican 21:27, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely. Feel free to simply copy what I (or someone else) has, and make your own template. For example, mine is : User:Sam Spade/Welcome. Just make your own page like that (you can copy my links if you want, or change them, or whatever) and put tjose weird {{}} brackets on the outside instead of [[]]'s. Census results for unincorporated rural towns[edit]

As a fellow "all things West Virginia" editor, I'd like to thank you for all of the work that you have contributed concerning the Mountain State ;)

I noticed that you created an article for Tallmansville in Upshur County, and I was curious as to where you found the population for the town. I am always unable to find such figures on the census.gov site. Caponer

GIS analyst[edit]

haha I was actually inspired by some other User pages where I noticed certain contributors had toiled away many hours repeatedly editing their own pages. I think yours is quite appropriate in its size and content ;)

I noticed you were a GIS analyst, so of course I had to comment since I was recently hired by the NGA and will be a GIS analyst for them in DC starting at the end of the month! Wish me luck, I hope the work is as rewarding as I felt it would be when I accepted the position. :) --Caponer 18:35, 3 January 2006 (UTC) P.S. thanks again for the census info![reply]

Betty Montgomery article[edit]

Do you think you're too important to clean up an article you tagged? No Parking added more links to the article. Despite what you wrote, the article didn't need more paragraphs, although No Parking added those anyway to make you happy. Nonetheless, the tag is still there. I suppose you're willing to let it remain looking cluttered with your gratuitous tag.

Tendercrisp Bacon Chedder Ranch[edit]

I just grabbed the screenshot off of the video that's linked from the article. I tried to get one of Hootie with the Ranch sign in the background, but unfortunately it's really blurry, and really the only good frame of the ranch sign is the one I posted. Try pulling up the .mov and stepping through the frames while on pause, or just look at other screencaps people have taken. --Interiot 04:34, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:WestVirginia-geo-stub[edit]

yes, most places have the flags for the geo-stubs for consistency. I must admit with US states, it doesn't make them that easy to tell apart, since most of them are just blue with a coat of arms. Another option is to use a small outline map, like, say {{Alaska-geo-stub}} (WV's a pretty distinctive shape). Trouble is, unless a landscape is very distinctive, at that size one river looks a lot like another river (some of the NZ scenery pictures I've uploaded don't look that dissimilar when shrunk that small - the icon you had could just as easily have been my Image:Rangitikei.jpg). Unless the scenery is as distinctive as, say Mt Rushmore or Monument Valley, it'll just look like a generic landscape at that size. And if you make the images larger, they start to become too conspicuous in the article. Grutness...wha? 04:43, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

U.S. Collaboration of the Week[edit]

Hey Youngamerican, I've added West Virginia's main article to the list of nominations for US Collaboration of the Week. It's in much need of reorganization and lacks a lot of information, and I was hoping that with some extra exposure and some wiki teamwork, we can get the article up to par with other U.S. state articles. Feel free to voice your comments or second the nomination at the US Collaboration page. Thanks! --Caponer 04:46, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pepsi merges[edit]

I'm glad you asked. My justificatin is basically common sense. Havign article that are a sentences long makes no sense when they can be easily and conveniently placed in a larger article, as I'm doing. I'm not touching the articles which are actually reasonably long, just the substubs. So far I don't think I've lost any information, though I have expressed that information more briefly and succinctly in some cases. When I'm done there will be a substantial improvement, as many of the versions link back to the Pepsi article where they used to be listed with discriptions. When the separate list article was made, those descriptions were lost, and I'm in the process of restoring them. If you have any advice or suggestions please let me know. Thanks. -R. fiend 17:08, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the alert! I know the wikis have been getting delete-happy of late, and it looks like they are also sabotaging us by changing the rules after we already did what they asked us to do originally. They should grandfather those things in somehow. Looks like I will have to go through everything I uploaded and change them, which should make the wikis happy... until they change the rules again. Thank you again. :) Wahkeenah 23:18, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
