Pic location

Hello Yarfpr. I recently discovered that if I placed a picture of the road of an road article immediately above the article's infobox (for example, this edit here), then when mousing over the wikilink for the article (from other articles) such picture gets displayed along with the first few lines of the article text. This behavior does not happen when the pic is placed elsewhere in the article, only if it's above the infobox. I think this behavior is beneficial, since it will display not just text but also a pic of the road for the reader to get a quick look at. I also observed this behavior when mousing over the road links at {{Categories:Roads in Ponce, Puerto Rico}} and at List of highways in Ponce, Puerto Rico. To take advantage of this feature I placed pics above the infoboxes for some 15 or so Puerto Rico highway articles, all --so far-- for roads running thru the municipality of Ponce. I thought you might find this information useful. (BTW, the behavior seems to be best observed in larger desktop screens as opposed to, say, a laptop's screen.) Take care! Mercy11 (talk) 03:38, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

@Mercy11: I've seen what you say and I think it's great. I would like to continue standardizing the articles according to that format, but I don't know if there will be someone who opposes that idea. Other things I'm trying to standardize are the junction lists, the see also section and the PR/US portals boxes. TC! Yarfpr (talk) 03:56, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
I think your junction lists are great! If someone has a valid reason to oppose either your junction lists or the pics over the infoboxes, then they need to say so. But so far it's Two-to-Zero (2-0) in favor of both of those. (The 2 are, of course, you and I). BTW, discussion for PR issues usually take place here, so if you ever oppose someone's objection, post it there and then the entire PR WikiProject membership can discuss it and reach consensus. An example of a recent posting is here. Hope this helps, Mercy11 (talk) 04:27, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@Mercy11: I just relocated the photos on Carretera Central, Ruta Panorámica and PR-504. I don't know if I did it well, but I really like your format! Yarfpr (talk) 02:33, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
They look great to me! Oh, and thanks for 504...I missed that one. Mercy11 (talk) 02:46, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi, Mercy11! I take advantage of the fact that we're talking about standards and formats to help me with this question I have. I've seen that some road articles use this portal template at See also or References sections:
While others use this other:
== See also ==
Which of the two should be used? Yarfpr (talk) 22:14, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

That's a good question. Thanks for noticing; I hadn't noticed. I have posted it here for follow up. Hopefully a greater number of project members will chime in. tc, Mercy11 (talk) 23:32, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

@Mercy11: Thanks for sharing it there. My question arose because I created articles in which I put a template format and another user replaced it with the other. Most PR road articles use the first, but in the US roads articles the second is used. Yarfpr (talk) 00:48, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
Great, but please be sure you make all your comments over there. Other editors will likely want to know why your question arose. I will give my opinion over there too. Standards are powerful when developed by a group of editors, not just 1 person's opinion. We can discuss it over there, and come to a consensus. Let's see if others chime in (over there). :-) thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 02:46, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Weird behavior with that portal stack box

Hi Yarfpr. Didn't what to post this in the PR community board because the discussion there on portals boxes --I believe we agreed-- was over. Besides, I think it probably concerns more you than the community as a whole. But, I wanted to show you something that's happening in my computer and was wandering if it's happening in your computer too and, if so, if you know what is the culprit or how to correct it. Ok, so here it goes...

If you look at PR-1, the See Also section, where the stack box gets displayed, the box is shown with all of its 4 sides. As another example (there are many others), if you look at PR-500, again the portal stack box under "See also" displays its 4 sides too.

However, if you look at PR-52 or at PR-2 (again, there are many other examples), the stack portal boxes display with only THREE (3) sides!! The right side of the box is missing. Is that happening in your computer and, if so, why is this?

Here's what I also noticed: If the portal box ends up somewhere other than against the right-most margin of the entire article, then the 4 sides of the portal box display as expected. This is the case with PR-1 and PR-500, where in both cases the box is against something other than the article's rightmost margin: in the case of PR-1, the portal box is against a map and in the case of PR-500, the portal box is against an infobox.

However, if the portal box ends up against the article's right margin, then the box displays missing its right side, that is, the box displays with 3 sides only. This is the case with PR-52 and PR-2.

What do you think? Mercy11 (talk) 00:38, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Mercy11! Your case is very weird! At least on my computer everything looks great. In fact, in the PR-2 and PR-52 preview of changes I added the stack code to the portal box to find out if that was the problem, but everything is still looking perfectly normal for me. I would like to know if that problem keeps happening to you in other non-road related articles. Yarfpr (talk) 02:38, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Yeah,,,I kinda thought it might be because of the small screen size in my laptop. I'll try it from a larger desktop in the next few days. Thanks! Mercy11 (talk) 02:58, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

On another subject...PR-5108

Do you anything about PR-5108? In saw it in Google Maps HERE as being a road in Ponce.

It shows it as being a road with a northern terminus at PR-10 (between PR-503 and PR-14 [aka, Avenida Tito Castro]), and a southern terminus at PR-14 (Avenida Tito Castro). According to Google Maps it's a signed road for the road locally known as Avenida Fagot.

The thing is, I've traveled Avenida Fagot numerous times and have never seen a sign there for this ghost PR-5108 road. In addition, the 4 digits would imply it's a related road or tributary of, perhaps, a PR-108 or a PR-510. But PR-108 is in Mayaguez, not Ponce, and, while 510 is in Ponce, 504 is much closer to Avenida Fagot, so a more appropriate signing would had been PR-5504.

I see we have no article for PR-5108, but I wouldn't want to write one based only in the Google Maps description since Google Maps isn't an WP:RS.

Any ideas? Mercy11 (talk) 03:23, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

@Mercy11: During the government of Alejandro García Padilla, many changes were made on the roads, but I think that some numbers shown on Google Maps aren't real, and not all changes have been updated. In the case of PR-5108, I think that's a Google Maps error, so I prefer not to create an article for that specific road. If, on the other hand, an article is created for Avenida Fagot, I don't recommend that this number be mentioned until there's some real evidence. If there're no mileposts along the avenue (km markers), then the route number is more likely to be fake. Yarfpr (talk) 16:15, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
I am with you! Mercy11 (talk) 17:49, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

I have sent you a note about a page you reviewed

Hello, Yarfpr

Thank you for creating List of highways numbered 863.

User:Insertcleverphrasehere, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Would these articles be better as just "Highway 863" or "Route 863" as disambiguation pages? (whichever you prefer with a redirect from the other one)?

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Insertcleverphrasehere}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

Insertcleverphrasehere (or here)(click me!) 22:13, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Insertcleverphrasehere! I'm afraid I didn't fully understand your doubt, but it doesn't affect me if one term or another is used (for me they mean the same thing), although the term highway may be more convenient. Basically I used a copy-paste of List of highways numbered 888 to create the other pages. Throughout the process I've noticed the absence of a standard for lists of different road numbers. Yarfpr (talk) 00:14, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
Yarfpr, It seems that there is a whole category of lists like this, so probably ignore my message I think. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here)(click me!) 00:50, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

PR-1P

Hi. Do you know what types of roads in PR qualify to have a "P" in them? Is the "P" short for something? For now I am thinking of PR-1P which is listed here, but I believe there is also an image of the PR-1P shield somewhere in WP as well. Thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 03:51, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

@Mercy11: The letter P means paralela. When a road makes its way through a one-way street, the parallel route is created so that traffic moving in the opposite direction can reach its main road at a point where it becomes bidirectional. Its function is similar to that of a ramal, but it differs from this in that it usually uses the kilometer markers of the main road. Ramales usually have their own kilometer markers and are also usually bidirectional. Here you can see an example of PR-1P on Calle Cristina along with km 127.5 of PR-1. Yarfpr (talk) 04:08, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Awesome! Understood! Thanks! Mercy11 (talk) 00:52, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

PR-503

Wow! this was an awesome trick and idea, and for the other roads you did like that one as well! Cheers, Mercy11 (talk) 22:24, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Mercy11! I felt the need to do that because some roads have discontinuous segments (like PR-503) and other roads become unidirectional within cascos urbanos. In the particular case of PR-503 I noticed the existence of two km 0 markers, one for each segment. The first km 0 is on the corner of Calle Salsa, and the second is on PR-10 north of Lago Portugués. The final length is obtained from the sum of the kilometers of both segments. Undoubtedly, the km 0 marker has become my favorite road sign throughout this process. 😆 Yarfpr (talk) 00:09, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
Humm. I hadn't noticed those 2 km 0.0 markers on the same road and, when I wrote you about this, I could had picked any of the other roads (PR-163, PR-505, etc) that you also provided Google cites for. It's a coincidence I happened to pick the one with 2 km=0.0 markers! I suspect the creation of the Portugues dam, which permanently cut the road in half, means the DTOP/AC is planing on assigning a new route number to one of those 2 segments. That would presumably explain their two "km0.0" starts. (It remains to be seen if the sub-segment from the north side of the Dam to the intersection with PR-10 will also have a new route # and/or km marking, but I doubt it; it will probably just becomes a local neighborhood street). Your solution to add the 2 segments for a total length is, imo, the right approach. Mercy11 (talk) 00:53, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
@Mercy11: I also thought the same as you when I saw the two km 0 markers. It's possible that one of the two segments has a different number that hasn't yet been signalized in the area. However, exactly the same happens with PR-191 in Naguabo. The original km 0 is in Río Grande, but recently I saw that it also has another km 0 at its southern end without changing its number. All this is part of what I've observed in Puerto Rico after the AGP government. I'll be aware of any other curiosity I see. ✌️ Yarfpr (talk) 01:29, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
With the down economy, then Irma, followed by Maria, and now earthquakes, I doubt re-signaling roads is a priority. Mercy11 (talk) 01:36, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
@Mercy11: You're right. Since Hurricane Maria has been a constant criticism by people and the media. Add to that the landslides and collapsed bridges that have barely been repaired in all this time. The needs are many and the priorities are few. Triste por demás. Yarfpr (talk) 01:42, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Copy-paste moves

Please do not do copy-paste moves. They mess up attribution. Since you do not have the tools to perform the move yourself, please start a requested move discussion. --Izno (talk) 21:16, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

@Izno: Thanks for notifying. I don't know how to do it the right way. Yarfpr (talk) 21:22, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
I'll request the move. TY. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 09:46, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
I made the request here. (I did the same thing you did - copied and pasted 'cause I didn't know I wasn't supposed to .. now we know). I should have known.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 09:50, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, The Eloquent Peasant! When I read Inzo's argument about attribution, I understood that I was making a serious mistake, but it wasn't intentional. I'll take the opportunity to correct other similar errors that I've made (luckily they're few). Yarfpr (talk) 14:52, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

PR-25

Hello Yarfpr. I noticed something that might be of interest to you. PR-25 says teh road is entirely in the municipality of San Juan. However this recent (2019) document from the Oficina de Preservacion Historica de Puerto Rico, and used to request entry of Carretera Central into the NRHP, says (on p. 2, Part 1-Name of Property) that Carretera Central was composed of today's PR-1 (which we already knew about), PR-14 (which we also already knew about), and PR-25 (it also includes PR-735, but I am going to ignore that poart for now). However, since the Juan Llanes-Santos (OPHPR) submssion specifically excludes San Juan and Ponce, and claerly states, maps included, that the submission is for the stretch from Caguas to Juana Diaz, then that would imply that PR-25 also exists somewhere in the stretch from Caguas to Juana Diaz, which would mean that the PR-25 is not correct in stating that road is entirely within San Juan. Am I interpreting this right or do you see a different explanation? Thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 02:53, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Mercy11! The current PR-25 runs from Plaza Colón in Old San Juan to PR-3 in Río Piedras, but Avenida Juan Ponce de León also includes PR-8838, south of Río Piedras. The document doesn't mention San Juan or Ponce, but it does mention some of the routes that are part of the historic highway. This doesn't necessarily mean that any of them (in this case PR-25) crosses into more than one municipality, but simply that they're part of the original route. Perhaps the interpretation of the document is that said avenue corresponds to the route from Río Piedras to Caguas; that is to say, that perhaps the name of the highway in all that section is known by the name of Juan Ponce de León (at least that's what I think).
In the case of PR-735, this route is part of the Carretera Central, as it contains the historic Arenas and La Liendre bridges. Yarfpr (talk) 03:17, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Hey, there is also a certain PR-8834 that was (well, is) part of Carretera Central, according to pp. 23-24 of that submission document. Just an observation. Take care, Mercy11 (talk) 03:26, 2 August 2020 (UTC)cmt
You're welcome, Mercy11. On page no. 5 of the same document (last paragraph) says the same I said before about PR-25. Yarfpr (talk) 03:29, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
You're right Yarfpr! Good eye! Thanks! Mercy11 (talk) 03:49, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
@Mercy11: I started to see the photos on that page and I love them! Thank you for sharing this gem with me! Yarfpr (talk) 00:38, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Yarfpr at some 100 or so pages long, it is by far the largest single submission to NRHP from PR I have seen so far. It is extremely well thought-out also. Glad you liked them; so did I! Cheers, Mercy11 (talk) 00:43, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

infobox changes to barrios

Hi .. are those official names that you are adding to the infobox? I'm not sure those are needed. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 03:35, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

For example here, I know that documents might say ... barrio Lares in Lares but I don't know for sure that the official name is "Barrio Lares". You can see page 3 with the Table of Contents on this ref where none of the barrio names include the word "Barrio"[1] I think the official name of each entity (barrio or subbarrio) is just the name without "barrio" "subbarrio" or "community" but I'm not sure. This is different from the official name of the municipio which often is "Municipio Autonomo de Lares", for example. Thanks! --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 03:39, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Anyway, let me know what you think and here is a cool source I found recently. On this dataset it has two names: Basename and another field called name which DOES include "subbarrio" .. For example: "Minillas subbarrio" So I really don't know how we should handle the "native name" of the Puerto Rico subdivisions (barrios, subbarrios) in the infobox.. Maybe we can discuss it in the project page, also. [2] --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 03:41, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Of course people and docs use the word "barrio" when referring to the place but I don't think it's part of the official name. On the US census docs it does include them, in English, like Monte Llano barrio, Cuchillas barrio, but again I don't think that's the "official" name. I think the word "barrio" is just to indicate what type of subdivision it is.[3] --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 03:58, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi, The Eloquent Peasant! I completely agree with you about the unnecessary use of the word "Barrio" next to the name of the place. That's why I decided to reverse my edits in most of the articles, except in the municipalities. It also seems appropriate that this situation be discussed in the project given the possibility of seeking standardization in the articles, especially in the order of words and language to be used. BTW, thanks for those links! Take care! Yarfpr (talk) 04:48, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
TY. That's a good idea. I'll ping you. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 02:26, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Information icon Hi Yarfpr! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Abras, Corozal, Puerto Rico that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. - Sumanuil.
