I am not currently at a secure computer. A. B., you can access the revertlist yourself: User:XLinkBot/RevertList, please log the entries. --Beetstra (public) (Dirk BeetstraT C on public computers) 14:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unrealroyal.com addition[edit]

Would you Squelch this link. Even with the specific attack page removed, there is no assurance against its return and is still unsuitable as a link for BLP and reliable source reasons. Thanks.--Hu12 (talk) 11:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please would you remove unrealroyal.com (below) from the list. It is not a blacklisted or spam site. CarbonLifeForm (talk) 12:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was used as an attack site and is unacceptable as a source or an external link as explained to by multiple uninvolved administrators many times. It has no place on Wikipedia and no pressing need for removal. Claiming it isn't spam isn't grounds for delisting, nor can you assure against its return.--Hu12 (talk) 13:46, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know nothing about any attack pages. This blacklist is for spam which unrealroyal.com is not. Quote from above - "This page is to be used to report links being inserted into Wikipedia by spammer". Hu12 is using different arguments and has been opposed to that site in numerous different discussions. As he said elsewhere (AN/I) "As I stated above its no longer on the MediaWiki blacklist. Agree, the issue is closed --Hu12 (talk) 11:01, 2 February 2008 (UTC)". It is open to Hu12 to raise WP:RS if the site is used as a source inappropriately. CarbonLifeForm (talk) 15:30, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't blacklisted as "spam"[1]. nor was it blacklisted as "Criticism", as claimed by the other editor involved in this "forum shopping" campaign for unrealroyal.com. None of the discussions involving univolved admins called for its removal, however in good faith I removed it in order to have it monitored by XLinkBot. This apparently wasn't good enough, perhaps it should be delisted here and re added to the meta blcklist.--Hu12 (talk) 17:26, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is not an attack site nor spam and there is no reason for it to be blacklisted. I appreciate that you, Hu12, are keen to keep spam off wikipedia but this is not a site that is creating problems which need you to pursue it round the houses. My own opinion is that wiki would benefit from an essay describing the circumstances which merit a site being added to a list such as this. Because I assume good faith on your part, I assume you did not describe it as being "no longer on the Mediawiki blacklist" in order to mislead anyone into thinking it was no longer on any blacklist. I think I am right in saying it was you who put it on both but it is possible you forgot having done so. CarbonLifeForm (talk) 18:02, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO - XLinkBot wasn't intended to deal with this kind of issue.. this site has a very limited number of pages where it may be of any use at all (one page, now that the 'bio' article has been deleted).. It would be better to semi-protect that page & watchlist it than to have the bot revert. The domain can certainly be watched by lwcoibot, since a clear case of COI has been established. unrealroyal.com doesn't qualify as a reliable source for the purposes of WP:BLP and shouldn't be used to support anything more specific than a sentence which states an individual's claim to a title is disputed. --Versageek 18:45, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. CarbonLifeForm (talk) 18:49, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Having the site patrolled by XLinkBot does not cause a problem, because the site is unusable in Wikipedia as has been pointed out by several uninvolved editors. Removing it will cause a problem, as the requester clearly wants to link it even though it plainly should not be linked. Seems unambiguous to me. Guy (Help!) 18:52, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I don't. I do want to discuss Hu12 having taken it upon himself vigorously to protect David Howe & surrounding issues. Particularly his closing of numerous discussions in which he participated. This is about fairness and principle and possible abuse. And I think we discuss before rfc or Arbcom. CarbonLifeForm (talk) 19:02, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
JzG, my point is this: if the site is completely "unusable in Wikipedia", it belongs on the Mediawiki blacklist. XLinkBot is intended to deal with domains which may have a legit use on-wiki, but are frequently (or have a history of being..) misused by new and anonymous users. --Versageek 20:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect (and I don't know this for sure) that sites on the Mediawiki blacklist get added to off-wiki spam sites. Which seems obviously unjust when a site is not a spam site. CarbonLifeForm (talk) 23:23, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know the meta-blacklist is used by default on other Mediawiki installations & picked up by Google - I'm uncertain about the local en.wiki Mediawiki Blacklist, it's a fairly new page here. We only started using it a few months ago. --Versageek 23:43, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And Hu12 has been consistent in refusing to state at the outset that he was the creator of the very article in question, which this site was criticizing. He is an involved admin and has been aggressively seeking to keep this site banned in any way possible. That is completely inappropriate behaviour. Whether the site is or isn't reliable for our purposes has no bearing on whether it should be monitored. There are millions of sites non-reliable which we do not monitor. No community input was used to add this site, and many editors, as you can see, reject the reasoning. The site should be removed from this blacklist. Thanks.Wjhonson (talk) 01:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • no one should own the blacklist, & except in emergencies, nothing should be added without prior consensus.DGG (talk) 20:56, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed this for now, awaiting further discussion.  Done --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:00, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
