Review and comment requested[edit]

Could you review the following exchange between contributors to the City College article and help us resolve a dispute? Please post any comment on the BCC talk page, thanks.67knight 11:20, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adam, I removed the Barringer High School information as well. It seems more suited for the talk section rather than in an article about the school. As you mentioned, there is a debate going on about the status of which school is third oldest in the country. A debate, as you well know, is talk; but not a part of the school's history.67knight 23:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The stuff I put on the BCC page was pure fact and nothing more, and it is notable enough to be included in the article, and there's no reason why it shouldn't. Quit reverting my edits, unless you plan to bring an administrator into it.Thx2005 00:09, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "stuff" as you refer to it has nothing to do with the history of Baltimore City College. It may be pure fact but it is irrelevant to the school's history. When you debated in high school, did your debates add anything to the history of the subject about which you were debating? We are simply saying the same thing. Debate about an article belongs on the article's talk page. I will ask the particpants of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Baltimore City College for their opinions and have them posted over the next few days, please join the debate if you have any concrete reasons why the Barringer info should be retained.67knight 11:20, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Baltimore City College[edit]

I would like to nominate this article for Good Article status in the near future. However, before that can happen a couple of key things need to be done to the article.

  • The academic section needs to be expanded.
  • Information about all sports at city college needs to be added.
  • Gaps in the history of city college need to be filled in.
  • Any major extracurricular activities not included need to be added.
  • Any major topics not discussed need to be added
  • Citations need to conform to Wikipedia citation templates.
  • More and varying sources need to be added to the article.

If you could assist with any of these tasks it would be greatly appreciated. Golem88991 03:37, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DC Meetup notice[edit]

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Maryland, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 00:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni page[edit]

Welcome back. If you some time on your hands, could you give us a hand with the Alumni page? We have put it in a sortable format and one of the categories of the sort is "graduation year". I know you helped with putting some of these guys in the notable alumni section, could you take a look at it and see if you know any of the graduation dates that are left blank? Thanks. 67knight 20:06, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will look Dr. Colbert up in the 64 Greenbag this week. 67knight 20:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History of Baltimore City College FAC[edit]

Welcome back Writerthesp77! You mentioned in your comment on Talk:Baltimore City College that you would be willing to help out by doing some copy editing. That is exactly what we need at this point. We have added a lot of information, but our prose could use some real work. Right now, History of Baltimore City College is a featured article candidate, and although we have not yet received any criticism of the content, the writing has been a sticking point. You would be doing me a huge favor, if you would copy edit the article. Thanks, Golem88991 23:56, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the copy edit. Golem88991 03:39, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Baltimore City College page Extracurricular Activities Section copyedit[edit]

After reading the writing in the section, I thought it wasn't particularly strong. I made an edit, but didn't commit any changes to the system. Here is the text as it appears:

City College offers over 20 student clubs and organizations. These activities include chapters of National Organizations such as National Honor Society established at City in 1927 and Quill and Scroll. City College offers service clubs such as the Red Cross Club and Campus Improvement Association.[31] The usual range of clubs and activities are offered including Drama which holds the annual play, Art, Model UN, band (music)Band, and Dance. Also there are many more unique clubs and activities such as One City One Book an organization that invites the entire school community to read one book selected by faculty and invites the author of the book for a reading, discussion, and question and answer period.[31] In 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner, MacArthur Fellow, and novelist Edward P. Jones discussed his book Lost in the City. Moreover, the campus school store is completely student run and managed by City College's Student Government. One of City College's most notable academic teams is It's Academic team which participates on the It's Academic TV Show.[31]

Here is the text after an edit (and more editing would be necessary after getting some proper names for some of the clubs mentioned):

City College offers more than 20 student clubs and organizations. These activities include chapters of national academic socities such as National Honor Society, established at City in 1927, and Quill and Scroll, as well as service clubs such as the Red Cross Club and Campus Improvement Association. One of City College's most notable clubs is It's Academic team which participates on the TV show of the same name.

The range of activities are offered at City also includes a Drama club which holds the annual play, Art, Model UN, band (music)Band, and Dance. The campus school store is completely student run and is managed by the school's Student Government.

City is also home to One City, One Book, an organization that challenges the entire school community to read one book selected by faculty and invites the author of the book for a reading, discussion, and q&a period.[31] In 2007, Pulitzer Prize winner, MacArthur Fellow, and novelist Edward P. Jones discussed his book Lost in the City.

I didn't commit the changes yet because I wanted feedback first, and clarification on some of these groups' names. Let me know what you think.

I like the copy edited version better. There are a few minor errors, but aside from that I think it is a nice clean up of the section. Thanks for your work on this. Golem88991 16:51, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

City College Football[edit]

The 1965 team was ranked by Parade Magazine, there is a vague reference to the ranking in the 1967 year book and in Marudas' book. There is one other national ranking under Petrides during the time the team went 29-0 in the 1990's, I will look for that. 67knight 12:28, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images on your user page[edit]

I was adding a fair use rationale to Image:AmtrakLogo.gif today, and noticed your userpage listed in the file links. Following the Non-free content criteria policy, fair use images are allowed only in the article namespace only. I notice several corporate logos are displayed on your user page that would seem to be counter to this policy, so you should reconsider using these logos on your user page and replace them with appropriate free images.
