Be very careful Sionk on your narrow determination of what is suitable for wikipedia. I refer you to the merits of Firmin Rene Desloge as declared by Jay Gitlin, Yale University professor and director for French American (jay.gitlin@yale.edu)stating that Firmin Rene Desloge was one of those whose "activities of the French are crucial to understanding the phenomenon of westward expansion on a Bourgeois Frontier, characterized as much by family connections, private enterprise and negotiation as by conquest"; and Author and academic Carl Eckberg, professor emeritus at Illinois State University and an expert on the French in colonial America, (cjeckberg@verizon.net) coined the phrase “French Aristocrats at the American West” to describe Firmin Rene Desloge and other prominent French families in Missouri.

Firmin Rene Desloge, descendant of French nobility who emigrated to Missouri in 1823 to join his uncle Jean Ferdinand Rozier and his business partner John James Audubon was the progenitor of the Desloge Family in America.

Wikidesloge (talk) 17:31, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I also refer you to the information provided by The Missouri History Museum as follows: 'Firmin Rene Desloge is a central character of Missouri history who, through writings situated in France and America, provides an authentic historical narrative built around one family’s 600 letters dating from 200 years, providing live-action reality present at France & the French Revolution and the American Frontier. Based upon one of the largest bodies of vibrant correspondence written from the turn of the 1800s, we are able to peer into the scene of teeming wildlife and Native American Indians in the young America expanding from this family’s French nobility on the young American frontier..." You are referred to the staff at Missouri Historical Society Archives (Library and Research Center), in particular, Dennis Northcott, Ellen Thomasson, Chris Gordon, Molly Kodner - contact information (314) 746-4500.Wikidesloge (talk) 17:52, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidesloge, the discussion where the question will be decided is here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Firmin René Desloge. If you'd like to shape its outcome (and I'm sure you would), make your argument there. Also, the currency of the realm in Wikipedia is verifiable citations. You can start here for a guide on how to do it in a way that will convince our fellow Wikipedians. A convincing citation might look like this, with appropriate information for the XXXs: <ref name="NAME">{{cite book |title= XXX |last= XXX |first= XXX |year= XXX |publisher= XXX |location= XXX |isbn= XXX |page= XXX |url= XXX | accessdate=XXX}}</ref> An unconvincing citation looks like this: "I saw it at the Missouri Historical Society; call them if you don't believe me." PRRfan (talk) 19:04, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you PRRFAN, yet I must say that there is an air of unsophistication with subject matter while having an extra-ordinary sophistication in wikipedia currency of the realm. I offer the example that given the the criteria for deletion, then that would also apply to another French contemporary of Firmin Rene Desloge, Marquis Pierre Charles DeHault DeLassus DeLuziere who emigrated to the United States in 1790 to escape the French Revolution. Originally Marquis Pierre Charles de Hault Delassus and his wife Madame Domitile Josepha Dumont, Danzin de Beaufort, were natives Bouchaine, Northern France. Pierre was a Chevalier (Knight) within the Court and Cousin of King Louis XVI, and a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of St. Michael. After arriving in America the Marquis went by 'M. de Luziere'. He and his family first lived near modern Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and then attempted to establish a French colony in Gallipolis, Ohio. By 1793 the family's funds were depleting and they relocated yet again along the Missouri River. M. de Luziere went on and served as civil and military commander of the new settlement New Bourbon, for over ten years, before returning again to the Sainte Genevieve area of Missouri in 1804. M. de Luziere died in 1806 and was buried in Memorial Cemetery, Sainte Genevieve, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, United States of America.

All material for Marquis Pierre Charles DeHault DeLassus DeLuziere is also derived from the same historical sources as Firmin Rene Desloge. Wikidesloge (talk) 21:42, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your frustration is understandable, but look at it from the perspective of Wikipedians. In the early days of Wikipedia, there were torrents of discussion on what articles and facts should be included in an encyclopedia anyone can edit; eventually, a few ruling principles were agreed upon. A prime one is No Original Research, with its corollary, Verifiability. You can imagine how these developed: someone wanted to add a fact he learned at a museum, then someone else wanted to add a fact he witnessed, then someone wanted to add a fact his grandfather once heard about, etc. Wikipedia is hardly an academic journal, and yet the general ethos among Wikipedians is that its articles should be as true as possible. To serve that ethos, editors have agreed to insist upon certain forms and standards of citation. This attention to form -- what you describe as an "extra-ordinary sophistication" -- is actually not that different from an academic journal's insistence on properly formatted footnotes: it makes it easier to evaluate the cited source and it signifies a good-faith effort to present sources likely to be credible. Anyway, this is growing longwinded, so I'll cut to the chase: if you spend just a bit of time on citation forms, you should have a much better chance of convincing people of the worthiness of your subjects. PRRfan (talk) 01:59, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a case in point: your recent addition of a citation to Firmin René Desloge. Kudos to you for providing a citation, but let's examine it through the eyes of another Wikipedia editor. You've provided no URL for the cited source, which makes it difficult to assess its credibility. I ran a few Google searches, and discovered that the book's title is not "George Rogers Clark and Other Essays in Western History", as you have it, but rather "How George Rogers Clark Won the Northwest: And Other Essays in Western History". It's no particular sin to get the name of a book wrong, but it does somewhat undermine the credibility of your edits. But more to the point, the chapter you cite, "Early Lead Mining on the Upper Mississippi" has no discernable mention of Desloge, and therefore it appears to serve poorly as a citation for the sentences it is attached to. If you believe the text does support your point, you might briefly explain why in your note; specific page numbers would be helpful as well. PRRfan (talk) 14:59, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an example of how you might go about improving your references. This edit places the citation in a standard template, adds a URL, and clarifies the relevance of text that does not mention Firmin Rene Desloge. PRRfan (talk) 16:43, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Firmin Desloge Hospital 2015.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Firmin Desloge Hospital 2015.jpg, which you've attributed to Landmarks Association of St. Louis. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 12:35, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not only do you have a conflict of interest, but you should refrain from writing about yourself on Wikipedia. It is good that you put the article in draft space, but if it is declined, you need to accept that and make improvements, or move on. Your arguments in that draft were more about books than a person and did very little to make a convincing case of notability as Wikipedia defines it. And articles written for publicity purposes are never accepted even if the topic is notable. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:30, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Equity mining moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Equity mining, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
