Midland Highway Photo

I added a photo to the Midland Hwy page, which may also be used on the Brighton Bypass page. I have yet to add it there as I am still going through the shots I took yesterday (some of which might be better choices for the Brighton Bypass).

I also ended up with a few more shots of the Bridgewater Bridge with a bit better detail than the wide shot. I'll see if I can make any of them work for that page as well.

I'm very much the generalist in my interests, so feel free to flag anything in my area (I live in the Southern Midlands, but get down to Hobart and the Huon valley frequently) you need photos of.KeresH 23:40, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ian. I got the photo you asked for (at least I hope that's the one you wanted).KeresH 02:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I still haven't headed out Sorrell way to get a photo of the Pittwater bridge, but next time I do I'll take my camera.KeresH 05:06, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks - bit distracted today will look now - cheers SatuSuro 11:36, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

My feelingreading it for an outsiders ponit of view (ok I have lived in Hobart but thats another story) it might need another column to identify where things are going - maybe bleeding obvious for you - but consider the first time mainlander - i think it needs more. Mind you it looks great and I am impressed by the format. Hope that might help cheers SatuSuro 11:40, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Excellent - it makes things clearer. well done SatuSuro 12:14, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Showgrounds.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Showgrounds.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 01:52, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Any time you become aware of an orphaned non-free or "fair use" image, just add {{subst:orfud}} to the image description page. That will automatically start a one week countdown where if nobody uses the image in that time, it will be deleted in a week. That template asks you to notify the uploader using {{subst:Orphaned|Image:Cops(band).jpg}} ~~~~. There are at least two good reasons for that - (1) the image may have been removed from an article in an act of vandalism that went unnoticed and notification lets the uploader readd it and (2) the uploader may want to save off the image for personal use before it is deleted. The message I left was this standard notification. --BigDT 12:32, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Highway diagrams

Hi Ian, before you add too many more "route" tables to highway articles, you may want to have a look at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways#Road diagram icons for a more graphical version, with the Midland Highway as an example. -- Chuq (talk) 11:10, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Wiki ian. An automated process has found and removed a fair use image used in your userspace. The image (Image:5th album.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Wiki ian/Images. License tagging for Image:Derwent Entertainment.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Derwent Entertainment.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:07, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Wiki ian. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Hobart-suburbs.png) was found at the following location: User talk:Wiki ian/Archive1. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 04:46, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Photo Request

Ian, I noticed you added a photo of the tasman highway in its relevant section - the one west of st helens. Do you have any other that you wouldn't mind sharing? The bus service between Launceston and St Helens is very infrequent (mail truck actually) and requires an overnight stay at some stage, so I don't really have any method of taking photos myself. Email is romeoskiss4u@msn.com - thanks. 202.61.134.116 12:00, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Bridgewater Bridge

Hi, Ian. I Just wanted to flag the latest update in the Tasmanian Mercury regarding the Bridgewater Bridge: http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story/0,22884,21745660-921,00.html. I'd update the article myself but I'm not really good at the text stuff yet. KeresH 11:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Got your message about to look cheers (sorry about delay distractions by the thousand in real life and wiki land :) SatuSuro 05:28, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
OK you can tell where i come from quickly - the convicts need to be linked with specific tasmanian convist articles in some way and the railway accident needs a tighter cite or ref tied to that section. Thats for a start. more later cheers SatuSuro 05:32, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Ooops - too many threads and projects and not enough wine... ok will check now :) apologies :| SatuSuro 13:43, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Okeley dokely.
  • (1) the overall format of the article is good - I would put a Tasmania context map at the top, put the photo in the middle and leave the other map below.
  • (2) the lead sentence and intro para needs a bit of a re-write
  • (3) why uni students have to commute between lonnie and hobart is a bit odd - possibly need to expact why lonnie types need to go to the deep south perhaps
  • (4) I am wondering (just wondering) if the issues and details of the waterbridge water needs to be in that art (scuse my sense of...) I am thinking the bridge is both part of the issues and it isnt - perhaps the article would go up in quality of some of that stuff gest put in the bridge article?
  • (5) The political format is a mess (things need to be better separated)

There are copyedit things all through. However the general flow and reasoning of what has happened need to be clearer for the outsider in the first sentence and the first para if you get the sticklers... I would try hard for a mid range context map at the top right.

Please let me know if this is any help (or not) - I used to - a very very long time ago try to explain to mainladers the weird and wonderful relationship between tassie and the mainlanders - either pollies or otherwise - and really sometimes they need things spelt out quite amazingly - re promises and inaction over a whole lot of things cheers SatuSuro 14:01, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

looking good the fixes that you have done SatuSuro 14:34, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Hi Ian - I did think about making it B but what dissuaded me was the tag at the top of the article - and I guess more importantly the speculative quality of the article. For my money B class article should be relatively stable in terms of overall content - not quite as much as a GA but close.--VS talk 11:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Highways

Sorry Ian, got a bit involved in a few pages, you know how it is! Possibly something like Google Maps may help - Get directions from one place to another, and it gives you a list of roads and distances? Like this for example - http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=risdon+road,+tas&daddr=domain+highway,+tas&sll=-42.81741,147.281515&sspn=0.165708,0.362549&ie=UTF8&z=15 -- Chuq (talk) 23:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Something like {{coord|-42.81741|147.281515|display=title|format=dms}}. If you want it to display in place use "inline" instead of "title", and there's always the option of "inline, title". Orderinchaos 14:18, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Second way to code it - see the source code on my talk page. I got it to go to a big intersection on the east side of the Derwent. Orderinchaos 14:49, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
