On a project encompassing Indonesia, Polynesia and of course other regions

Would you be interested in joining with me to form a WikiProject Malayo-Polynesian civilizations? There is already a WikiPoject for Polynesia and Indonesia. However, with forming such a WikiProject, this would go beyond borders and expand into areas not covered by the present WikiProjects. Let me know what you think.

In my opinion, a more relevant idea would be an "Austronesian project", Djoehana (talk) 01:13, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
This sounds like a workable project. Wiki Raja (talk) 10:44, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

It is possible that migrations from Southeast Asia, South Asia, and even East Africa may have taken place thousands of years ago. Wiki Raja (talk) 10:42, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The last theory accepted by most anthropologists is the "out of Africa theory". According to it, Homo Sapiens first developed in Africa, then 170,000 ago, started to migrate out of Africa through the Middle East and from there, spread westwards to Europe, northwards to Central Asia and eastwards to South Asia. At a time the sea level was lower, migrations could take place from mainland Asia to Australia through what was not yet the Indonesia archipelago but a land mass. New Guinea was linked to Australia, forming the so-called "Sahul" continent, so migrations took place from Australia to New Guinea. This is confirmed by analyses based on the mitochondrial DNA, a genetic marker transmitted by mothers to their children, Djoehana (talk) 14:29, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Not much attention has been given to the Indian sub-continent, something I have been researching on my own time. Having noticed the striking physical similarities between the indigenous peoples of Australia and the Dravidian peoples of the Indian sub-continent, it compelled me to look into this further. You have mentioned of possible migrations when there was shallow waters, and of New Guinea being attached to Australia at one time. This made me think of the Plate Tectonic theory. One of the plates in discussion is the Indo-Australian Plate where Australia and India sit on either end. If you remember the 2004 Asian tsunami, when both the Southern Indian tip of Tamil Nadu and Northern Sri Lanka in the South Asian region were hit badly here, there could be an explanation about possible migration of peoples between Australia and the Indian sub-continent when waters were shallow or patches of land were visible between both sub-continents thousands of years back. History will state that this was not the first tsunami, but one of many. The one before 2004 took place during the early 20th century, while ancient Tamil sources talk of a city going under the water, in the Buddhist epics of Silappadikaram and Mannimekalai (of course, both myth and history are intertwined in most epics around the world).
Just recently, there has been a small underwater expedition off the coast of Tamil Nadus, Mammalapuram of the famous shore temples here and here, where archaeologist have found more evidence of a sunken city. After the 2004 tsunami, more artifacts have been revealed here.
The history of the Tamils also talk of a sunken continent between India and Australia (possibly patches of land as you may have also suggested about the Indonesian archipelago) called Lemuria, or Kumari Kandam in Tamil. Having read geography books on the tectonic plates movements, the Indo-Australian plate was not where it is today, but was close to, or connected to Madagascar. We also, hear of the Himalayas in India rising an inch or so every year, while the waters in Southern India rise about the same each year too. But, unfortunately, much is not looked into due to Indian nationalists trying to deem this as mere Tamil mysticism. This is very similar to what you tell me on how Indonesian nationalists try to rewrite Sri Vijayan history. Wiki Raja (talk) 22:37, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Esp the fact that Sri Vijaya,Champa and Khmer empires celebrated their New Year during March-April was something new to me. :-) Do you know that the Persian New Year Nouruz, too, is celebrated during March-April :-)-RavichandarMy coffee shop 11:05, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Periyar

I've given my reply :-). I find from your userpage that you have an understanding of the Telugu script. Would be grateful if you could give the Telugu transliteration of Panaganti Ramarayaningaru in Raja of Panagal article. Thanks-RavichandarMy coffee shop 14:49, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Telugu transliteration of Panaganti Ramarayaningaru would be ఫనగన్తి రమరయనిన్గరు Wiki Raja (talk) 07:50, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the transliteration. I am sorry. I am having a problem with my internet connection that it disconnects every five minutes or so after connecting. This is the reason why I havent been able to respond properly in the past few days. The connection disconnects almost as soon as I login and I am having a torrid time with this. I shall not be able to spend long hours on the net until and unless I am able to fix this issue. I'll be back once I had done it. Bye. tc:-)-RavichandarMy coffee shop 08:28, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Great job Wiki Raja truly outstanding that the Periyar article has been put for Peer Review here. After resolving all the disputes using the talk page .In particular for a page once protected up to 9 months.[1].Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 21:05, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, not exactly. I wouldn't call myself a "fan". I just felt that there weren't Wikipedia articles for a few Dravidologists and created them. Yeah, I do like his works on Chola influence in South-east Asia. I am sorry for the late reply. I'm having network problems and hence I find it rather difficult. Great to know that you have a large collection of his books :-) Take care-RavichandarMy coffee shop 03:38, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi! In case you are interested do peep into Raja of Panagal once in a while. I am aiming to get that article to a GA and your contributions are very much welcome. I also wish to ask you if you have a PD photo of the Raja. A picture seems to be the need of the hour. tc-RavichandarMy coffee shop 13:58, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

How to use this top Indian Wikipedian list for effective collaboration

Hi, I have added a section 'How to use this list for effective collaboration' on User:Tinucherian/Indians WP page to see if we can put this list to really good use, pl give your thoughts on the same and we can take it further from there. Thanks. Vjdchauhan (talk) 18:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC).

Photograph

Hi Wiki Raja,

Did you manage to find any photographs you were looking for. I found this picture on Iniyan Sampath's (E. V. K. Sampath's son) website. I believe this should come under public domain since E. V. K. Sampath is still a young boy. The people in the picture are listed here. Looks like a very valuable picture to me. Can you shed some light on this PD stuff? Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 17:22, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

deletion vote

Hi.Yes, I have seen that deletion vote, I voted to keep the category. Maybe I am missing something, but how do those two news stories relate to the deletion discussion? Thanks!WackoJacko (talk) 00:38, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Interesting offer

Your offer is tempting! Although I am the original designer of that page, any improvement is welcomed! Please share your ideas with us, and we'll see what the project members say.

Cheers mate!

Hey mate!
Pretty awesome!! I am sure WikiProject Kosovo members will definitely like it! The changeover, however, can't take place without their consent. Since you're the creator, how about you put up a message on the project's talk page and wait for a week or so for their feedback. In the unfortunate scenario where replies dry up at that week, you just take the intuitive and changed the page!
My only concern, which I have to note, is that the design looks too generic, in a sense that many projects have it. An effortless artistic touch may "personalise" it to cater for the needs of WP:KOSOVO.
Great work and cheers mate!

East Timor...

Hey - nice work on all the template tags you're adding to East Timor articles. cheers. --Merbabu (talk) 11:39, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

sinhalese terrorists

The idea is not to create cats for Sinhala in a tit-for-tat manner, but to remove the demonization of Tamils. Promoting the Sinhalese category only gives more ammo for those trolls who claim people like you and me are ethnic chauvinists and whitewashers of terrorism.Pectoretalk 01:24, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Reason for the creation of this category was that the outcome of the nomination for deletion was inconclusive. Thus, with the fact that a terrorist category for Tamils was going to be kept, it was sensible to balance it out with a terrorist category for Sinhalese. Wiki Raja (talk) 02:24, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
I would like to invite you to the discussion on the category "Tamil terrorists". We are working to create a consensus on the issue that will solve this problem once and for all.Pectoretalk 02:29, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Periyar

Hi Wiki Raja! Just to ping you that this phrase [The way in which Periyar presented his material and carried his audience with him can be understood only if we look at his remarks on the related subjects of social interest.] sounds more or less like a comentary and hard to understand. Can you clarify this please? Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 14:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi again! Is it pagutharivu that is said as reasoning? I would have thought the best translation for pagutharivu would be wisdom to reason, but if it is otherwise that the reference claims then so shall it be. :D Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 00:27, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
