Information icon Hello, WestCoastSue. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article P.E.O. Sisterhood, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. FourViolas (talk) 04:32, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

wiki quality[edit]

I agree that I am too close to this subject and need to be very careful. I am seeking out references and images that will show what P.E.O. actually is in 2015. My edits obviously cannot stand as-is.

I am an ordinary active member of my chapter and do not receive any payment from them; Quite the opposite.

P.E.O. differs from other sisterhoods in recruiting mature women rather than students. Women who have spent decades balancing work and family commitments who find themselves in middle-age suddenly free of child-related duties have time, skill and energy to put into their communities. The P.E.O. harnesses these energies and, corny as it may sound, tries to use them for "good". The ladies I know deserve a better representation than they had on that wiki, which made them sound like some kind of cult. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WestCoastSue (talkcontribs) 19:28, 22 February 2015‎

Great, thank you! I trust you to make Wikipedia's coverage fair, verifiable, referenced, and non-promotional. I hope you don't mind if I check back from time to time to help format citations and bring an outside perspective on what needs clarification or substantiation.
Happy editing! FourViolas (talk) 00:22, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously, I need to take some time to better understand how to use shortcuts and other wiki tools before I do any more editing. Thanks for your help! WestCoastSue (talk) 18:58, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I'm sure you'll learn quickly. WP:Markup can be confusing, but you'll get used to it. Here's a few examples:
Raw text What it does
''Two apostrophes'' italics
'''three''' bold
[[double brackets]] links to other WP articles
a reference<ref name=Joplin>{{cite news |last1=Hinga |first1=Allie |title=Cottey College names next president |url=http://www.joplinglobe.com/news/local_news/cottey-college-names-next-president/article_3d850627-3a8d-5a48-af98-4531af214a67.html |accessdate=23 February 2015 |work=Joplin Globe |date=19 February 2015}}</ref> a reference[1]
You can play around in your sandbox to get used to things. You're always welcome to ask me a question at the bottom of my talk page. Cheers! FourViolas (talk) 21:35, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
