Revert of The Pirate Bay page[edit]

Hi, Weirdy.

A few days ago, I edited The Pirate Bay, adding a [weasel words] tag. More recently, you reverted this change, and put a boilerplate message on my IP's talk page about experimenting with wikipedia, telling me to use the sandbox. I'd like to point out that:

  • If I was aware of how to use a tag like that, I am probably sufficiently familiar with wikipedia to know not to do a test edit on an article page.
  • A carefully-placed tag is, in general, unlikely to be a test.
  • The beginning of the sentence that I tagged ("To many however, it seems..") is a perfect example of weasel words, as I tagged it.

The point is now moot, as another editor has since removed the entire sentence (which, on reflection, I think was a better option than simply adding a tag). I'd just like to make a friendly suggestion that you consider your own rules more carefully, particularly the one about not reverting edits unless they are obvious intentional vandalism.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Primo Gap NJ.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Primo Gap NJ.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:17, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Image:Dmgirlyugioh.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Image:Dmgirlyugioh.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:06, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bans and blocks[edit]

Howdy! I saw your contributions and it looks like you're doing great work! One minor thing, I noticed you were using the {{banned}} template. Strictly speaking, the users were blocked rather than banned (a block is a tool which is used to enforce a ban, but it may be used for other reasons, like fighting vandalism). A better template to use would be {{Indefblockeduser}}. Let me know if you have any questions or I can help with anything. And keep up the great work! --TeaDrinker 09:42, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Into the Night screenshot.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Vanity[edit]

Hi. Re Harry Michael Jones, which we both tagged just now - I forget where I saw it, but we are officially discouraged from using the word "vanity", even when it seems richly deserved. I think the problem is that people search for themselves on Google, and it points them to WP where they find their page is being speedied or AfD-ed as a "vanity page"; then they get all upset and start complaining to Jimmy Wales. Speedy delete of images[edit]

Hi. I removed the speedy delete request you placed on Image:Takeudownpromo.jpg and another image because "unused" is not a valid speedy deletion reason. In cases like this, when it's a fair use image, you should mark it with the "orphaned fair use" tag by subst:ing {{orfud}} and then notify the uploader. This is the standard process for these types of images. Thanks for your understanding, efforts to cleanup unused images and contributions to Wikipedia. MECUtalk 12:44, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
