Just a question[edit]

Is ther any way I can find a link to the pages that need some work? I love reading, researching, and editing.

Let me know where I can be of service. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gage14x (talkcontribs) 01:39, June 10, 2006 (UTC)

Re : article on RTA's removal of section on automated drivers

Hi thanks, thinking about it I realise that you are right, my article does contain to much speculation. Wikipedia's rules work well for most subjects but they are a real pain when trying to write articles about current or future research. My statistics are estimates based on my own marketing research for automated driving, and making them citable could prove pretty expensive. I also hit the problem that in any area where I really have a good working knowledge a lot of what I might want to write is by definition speculation. Anything at all about Strong AI is by definition speculation since it does not yet exist.

Another problem with science in general is that citability and references are never total proof of correctness, and a lot of current theory is in a state of some flux.

In another area of science I am very fond of, astrophysical theory - a great deal is still based on speculation and very little is absolutely tied down. For instance the idea that Relativity is still valid at FTL velocities is pure speculation, but the argument "proving" it has gained an amazing amount of inertia and force behind it.

Maybe what is needed are links from main Wikipedia pages to those allowing more speculation. It seems ridiculous that an article on RTA's cant carry speculation about possible future advances that may help solve the problem and reduce future accidents.

Half-Life[edit]

Why do you think it's a "copyright violation" to put up information I wrote about my own book. To reprint quotes that are on my own book. And to add a photograph of the book cover, of which is my own image.

??

Scrabble links[edit]

Hello WAvegetarian,

Although I only play competition Scrabble in Dutch, I learned a lot about (American and English) Scrabble from the Wikipedia Scrabble article. I also found new sites from the external links that were added at the bottom of the article. But on the 14th of June Jaranda removed the majority of these practical links, even the one to the Internet Scrabble Club, where you can play without paying and where you don't find any ads. And what's wrong with links to BingoBinge or The Man in Blue or PyScrabble? For Jaranda these links are spam. Well, I detest spam (like most of us), but do you consider the mentioned links as spam? I could easily restore the removed links, because I regard them as very valuable information, but I don't want to start an edit war with the overzealous Jaranda. Should I include a note (for people like Jaranda) to not remove these links, except for the really commercial ones? You needn't answer me, I'll discover your (and others') reaction in the Wikipedia Scrabble article.

Good luck and bye,

Jan (from Belgium)

My intention is to note the historical value of the group and songs of the era. I do not know of any other way to write the copy . I would like suggestions and someone can edit Please. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Joedeluxxe (talkcontribs) 05:07, July 15, 2006 (UTC)

Sheynhertz RFC[edit]

I didn't know that after endorsing the statement of dispute several days ago I couldn't come up with a way to resolve the dispute and list it as an outside view. I'm sorry. I'm also sorry for forgetting to sign my comments; I have a tendency to do that (I know you're not the one who complained but still...). As you can see if you look at the RFC discussion page, I was hesitant to endorse the statement of dispute to begin with, so rather than remove what I hope was a helpful suggestion I struck through my endorsement. We are voting to delete the article on 'Battle Field 2' as we already have an article for the game described. 'Battlefield 2' for the PC version and 'Battlefield 2: Modern Combat' for the console version. He's getting a bit worked up, and whenever people post comments against the article and/or for deletion, he deletes it. He accused me 'Delete' vote of being done by a sock puppet! Having said that, I enjoyed the Google link you provided. I had been using Google Earth and typing in coordinates; I never just tried giving Google a name at the Google Maps site. Hello.[edit]

I'm the one who added some pictures and all on 'Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti' , actually hes my father. Some of those pictures I found online and some he sent me himself. You can checkout my album:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shahzwar555/my_photos (The first and secondlast albums)

As for the gettyimages, I doubt they'd mind since I'm not using anyone elses pictures, I'm using Akbar Bugti's own pictures on his wikipedia link and pictures related to the whole situation. Also, the photographer who took the pictures a few months back Mr. John Moore is very hard to get hold of but I know they will not mind the pictures being put on wikipedia specially when its all directly related to my father Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

Please, consider your decision, I'd truly appreciate it. Yours gratefully,

               Shahzwar.

Unfair attack[edit]

Dear Sir

this is in continuation of the unfair attack about which I sought help at page

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:India_Gate&redirect=no

and to which you responded most helpfully. I notice that just for a SINGLE act or correction (among the numerous corrections and additions) I made I was issued a warning and also a threat. This made me to check for what CaliEd has been doing, and I notice that he is interested mostly in Christian institutions and his comments about these institutions have been less than positive. I also notice that all his comments are USA-centric, and any practice outside USA is seen as wrong. This is unfair.

I am not a Christian, and I made contributions only to one essay. It is a Christian institution from India. Obviously the corrections I made represent the ground reality in India. If it is different from that in the USA, CaliEd should accept it and should not try to judge it on the basis of what is there in the USA. Also, I did not expect such emotional outburst from another editor.

My request is that this Americo-centric editing is a POV. This should be restricted. Second, just because I make one (perceived) mistake, I should not have been bitten and bullied. A suggestion to this effect to CaliEd would be gratefully accepted by me

I look forward to many happy days with the Wiki. Respectfully India Gate 06:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Doctor Bruno deletion[edit]

Need More Help[edit]

Dear WAvegetarian I need a bit more help as I am a newcomer. As suggested by you, I have been trying to engage KaliEd in a civil discussion of his revert on my edit and the threat he issued. The discussion does not seem to be going in a right direction, at least not fast enough. I wish to be civil, and follow what more senior editors advice me.

As I checked KaliEd's edits and also many other edits by others about Indian educational institutions, I feel there is a strong US-centric POV, specially when it comes to the accreditation issue. If a prestigious Indian University is not accredited by American accreditors (or some similar body) the American editors seem to quickly label them as "unaccredited". I feel such a US-centric assessment of non US institutions is POV and unfair to non US institutions. I notice this about many Indian educational institutions, but wish to edit only after this issue is solved.

My discussion is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:CaliEd and I am sure you can give me some suggestion as to what I should do next. India Gate 08:47, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A belated "thank you", WAvegetarian, for your guidance in the Semitone article, regarding disputes. It was extremely helpful. I am fairly new to computerland, and a real newbie at Wikipedia...I therefore especially appreciate the help! Your links were very useful. Meanwhile, I have been studying the various rules and guidelines which govern this tremendous encyclopedia. Prof.rick 21:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semitones: thanks![edit]

Hi, WAvegetarian! Thank you for your comments on my talk page, and pointing out that I placed my comments improperly on your talk page. Sorry! (As I said, I am a newbie, and have much to learn.)It is good to know that I can call on you or Hyacinth for help. Regarding the redirect from "Semitone" to "Minor Second"...my only real concern is that the augmented unison is also a semitone, but not a minor second. In my opinion, a separate article on the Semitone is of considerable importance to the completeness of the encyclopedia. (I also realize that there were considerable shortcomings on the Article, in general, and recognize the practicality of dismissing much of it.) I appreciate that whoever made this redirect retained some critical content of my section on Semitones. (I'm glad to know I have contributed something worthwhile.) All the best in your very challenging tasks. Prof.rick 22:34, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Classical music page[edit]

So there was a notice on the Classical music about a requested move, and after over a month, there was a 7-2 consensus in favor of the move as seen here Talk:Non-Western_classical_music#Requested_move. I moved the old Classical music page to Non-Western classical music, but since there was already a "Classical music" page, I couldn't just move the European classical music page. I've copied the stuff from the European classical music page for the "Classical music" page and added redirects to the old European classical music page for now, but maybe you can help and do a proper move in this regards. Your help[edit]

Thank you for helping me with the parenthesis. However, your procedure was the first thing I had tried and it did not work (the background color of the page is changed, but those sodding parenthesis will still remain on a white square background). Maybe that "math" code cannot be changed. I think I'll try other way, by creating/uploading images that contain the parenthesis with another background color. Still once again, thank you very much for your help. Regards. --Húsönd 13:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, you just added further response. Yeah, they can't be changed at all... I'll try creating new images.--Húsönd 13:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Churchie[edit]

Hi WAvegetarian

Sorry about the mix up with deleting the sexual abuse line in the Churchie listing. Being a Wikipedia newby I didn't realise that you needed to use the sandbox. I thought it was strange that just anybody could get on and change information - so it is good to see that there is a review process.

Some parents from the School complained that it was up there and asked if it could be removed, so I just logged on and removed it.

From your reply I understand that because the information is true and relevant it cannot be removed?

Obviously the School would prefer not to have this information up there. Is there a way to ask for it to be removed?

Also, it is now almost at the top of the list of contents for the School. Would it be possible to move it to the bottom where it originally was?

thanks Churchiewebmaster 23:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Churchie 2[edit]

Hi WAvegetarian

Thanks for the welcome and all those tips you sent - they will certainly help me with putting information up in wikipedia.

If you could move the Sexual Abuse story further down that would be great.

I looked at the older versions and originally some of the Sexual Abuse information was incorrect (for example I'm 95% confident that Kevin Lynch was not at Churchie but at the Brisbane Grammar School), but it was good to note that over time it had changed to the correct information.

Thanks again for all your help and clarification with this

i dont see why the thousand island park page needs to be erased. it is a serious topic, and i feel that i am being disrespected when wikipedia is deleting what me and many of the people who live there feel as required information. if it is an encyclopedia, then it deserves to have information pertinent to understand the topic, this being Thousand Island Park. thanks and i would really appreciate it if it was put back, this being a free encycloepdia, deserves this page

"centrosome" mistake[edit]

Somehow there was some confusion on page "centrosome". I added actual new content (regarding discovery of a centrosome genome), including a citation, which you reverted without comment on that page's Talk...but you left a message for User talk:68.219.69.181 saying you had reverted an experiment they had done on "centrosome". I don't know what 68.219.69.181 did, so I'm not sure what lead to the confusion (that address block is Bell South, thousands of miles from me), but I'm going to add back the content I had previously added. If there are remaining issues, please bring them up on Talk:centrosome. (Or on my talk page, as you see fit.) Thanks. Dougmerritt 02:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
