Content

Please do not make pages without content. Pages like the state park ones without content (only templates) will be deleted. If you intend to expand these please do so soon. Also you are using the wrong naming convention - they should all be named as "Name State Park" and only as "Name State Park (Pennsylvania)" only if there is a conflict. "Name, Pennsylvania" is used for populated places. Rmhermen 17:45, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Page Blanking

On 09-Feb, you blanked Moshannon State Forest, Pennsylvania, Rothrock State Forest, Pennsylvania, Susquehannock State Forest, Pennsylvania, & Tuscarora State Forest, Pennsylvania. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. In cases of duplicate articles, you should use a redirect. I have redirect each of these to the correct articles. County Seals

Hi, i see you have been uploading county seals for variouls counties in PA to go along with the county templates you have created. I thank you for thses addations, but one thing, when you have up,loaded them, you did so under {{PD-USGov}}. That tag does not work for county seals, as the tag allpies to works of the United States Goverment (federal) released into the Public Domain. County seals however are not US goverment works, they are works of the individual counties in question, nore are they allways in the public domain, as some counties do have reserved rights and restrictions to their usage. However the fair use clause, does allow us to dislpay them, so a better tag would be {{seal}}</nowkik>, as the reational would be better situated for these symbols. Poor choice of name

Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) was built by the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, not the PRR (which owned the Cumberland Valley Railroad and used that bridge). You might want to move it to a more appropriate name and delete the redirect. Choess 05:35, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Nice snag

regarding Image:St Louis Metro Logo.gif... it brightens up the articles you added it to. (I did a little tinkering with the main MetroLink article to try to correct some spacing oddity I saw after you added the infobox... no big deal...) But I'm wondering if a version without the METRO text on the bottom might be better? Many usages I've seen of it are without the words. That way it could be bigger and yet not take up any more space... in the crossings boxes it looks really small. Thanks. As for removing the METRO text from the image, I'm fine with that. I'm not too familiar with the Metro system, but the logo on their website had both the "M Logo" and the METRO text, so that's what I went with. In terms of the crossing box, I didn't make it too big, cause I wanted it to still be similar in size with the road shields. While the road shields are consistantly 20px for one and two digit roads and 25px for 3 digit roads, I've basically been playing around with the sizes of logos for things like Amtrak, NJ Transit, or BART. Here are some other bridges that I've placed icons in the crossings box: Morrisville-Trenton Railroad Bridge, Benjamin Franklin Bridge and Transbay Tube. Basically whatever looks proportional, and fairly legible. Anyway, have fun playing around with it, I'll keep an eye on it and let you know what I think of the end result. Hey, do you happen offhand to remember where you found that image? I was schlepping around the entire site trying to find a good image that isn't small, and doesn't have other elements in it, but wasn't able to find one even as crisp as that one. What I was driving at regarding the box is that for the same height or width, the image without the words below would be more graphic or punchier. I totally agree that we would not want it to dominate the other images like interstate shields, MO highway signs and the like... but right now it's small. Worst comes to worst I'll just try trimming the one that you uploaded down and upload it under a different name and try it out. If it doesn't work, nothing lost. self references can be links but won't show that way

regarding Patroon Island Bridge (in the crossings box) I saw you took the [[]] from around Patroon Island Bridge... did you know you didn't actually need to do that? Mediawiki software will suppress a link that is a self reference and show it in bold black, even if you have [[]] around it. Of course, maybe you didn't want it in bold black text but I thought I'd mention it... Btw, I've decided you're a Wikipedia:WikiFairy because you go around and make everything way prettier! Thanks for that! (maybe you could give Eads Bridge a once over again? I just added a lot of text to it that I OCRed from the HAER site). Have you joined the Bridges project yet? I actually did know about the self reference thing. I just only happened to notice the [[]] when I was adding the "NY 378" to the Menands Bridge and changed it for consistancy, cause I'm anal like that :) Glad my beautification editing is appreciated, Wikipedia is a good break from more serious internet work. I saw your additions to the Eads Bridge, the content from the HAER site is great. I discovered their database about a week ago but haven't had a chance to really look around much. My only thought on the page is moving the left aligned picture from the beginning. Since its opposite the Infobox, I feel like the text is squeezed, and probably even more so on smaller monitors. Ya I agree about the pics squishing the text in Eads Bridge. I run 1600x1200 so I miss that sometimes. I tried a bunch of different layouts and that was the best I could come up with... I even tried tables to see if I could get the alignment I wanted... give it a go, if you can fix it that would be awesome! It's so funny that those upper HV bridges are even written up... 3 months ago the (old style) nav boxes only went as far upriver as Rip Van Winkle Bridge IIRC, and at the time some of us sort of decided those Albany area bridges were too small to bother with. I have the geolocator coordinates for most of them stashed away somewhere... (I was the creator of Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge and Poughkeepsie Bridge articles by the way... I need to go back and fix up the latter, there are better pics out there than what I have in the infobox... ) By the way, what other stuff are you involved with on the net? Lego is my main passion... I had been looking for the name of the I-10 bridge in Baton Rouge a while ago, having heard it on the news once upon a time. A quick look today through the parent category lead me to the article. Thanks for all of your hard work on the Pennsylvania counties and their nav boxes. They are a great addition to the articles. I had a couple of questions for you. Do you have a better source for the map of Montgomery County, PA school districts, Image:Montgomery County, PA School District Map.gif? I looked on the web page you cited, but I could not see where it was US Govt PD from that, so I hope you have a better source. I was going to list it on WP:PUI, but wanted to check with you first.   • I found two more questionable images you uploaded, so I listed all three at WP:PUI. Image:Chester County, PA School District Map.gif is another school district map from the same type of commercial web site but with a free use tag. Image:Chester County, PA Municipality Map.gif appears to be county government produced, not US Govt PD. Since I had not heard from you and had three images of uncertain copyright status I went ahead and listed them. Hopefully these are free and you can clarify things.   • I added Image:Lancaster County, PA School District Map.gif to WP:PUI as the image itself is clearly marked as copyrighted, and the source given is a commercial website and not US Government or PD work. Did you know you can get maps of school districts from the US Census website? I will see if I can make ones to replace these unfree images (assuming they are not free), but it may take me a while. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I've been out of town for a few days. First, its good to hear that the nav boxes are appreciated. Let me say thanks to you for your work uploading all the county maps and reorganizing the municipality lists. Second, the school district maps, replacing them with maps from the Census website seems like the best solution, due to the source of the ones I uploaded. They're from my early days of on Wikipedia, before I fully understood the uploading rules. I had forgotten about them, otherwise I would have removed them myself. See you around.       • Thanks for the reply. Glad to know someone noticed the maps and sorting - thanks. I am also glad the Lancaster Co. School District Map is OK. It will take me a while to make the others, but I should get to them this summer. What do you think of adding locator maps to each city / borough / township / CDP article? See for example places in Lycoming County, PA. The problem is it takes a long time to make and upload them all, so what do you think of just putting the county maps (already in place) showing all cities, boros, Twps and CDPs on those pages?   • I do like the idea of locator maps on all the municipality articles. Its been an attractive idea since I saw the New Jersey county and municipality pages. Now while it will take a lot of time and effort, I think the better way is to have maps like those for Lycoming County showing the individual municipality instead of all of them. But given the time factor, perhaps this is an undertaking that should take a backburner until a WikiProject for PA is started and the work can be spread amongst a greater number of people.         • I also like the individual maps. Sullivan County, Pennsylvania has such locator maps too (as does Hancock County, Ohio). I have made them for Bradford County, Pennsylvania but am having trouble batch uploading them to Commons and do not have time to do it now anyway. My biggest concern is that the CDPs would change every ten years with the new census, so that would mean new maps. Since PA boroughs, etc. tend to be more fixed, maybe the maps could just be for them? Thanks for the feedback and you are welcome for the barnstar. If there is WikiProject PA please let me know. List of crossings of the XXX river

I love those lists! And I think you are doing excellent work on them. The recent tableification is great. The only problem is the width="900px" attribute, which makes the table too wide for my screen. I propose we get rid of the width tag and let the users' browsers size the tables. I got the idea for tables from the List of crossings of the Potomac River, and used that as a model for the lists that I created. I'm still playing around with the layout and what info to include, so you're feedback is really appreciated. I see what you mean about the 900px width, I'm kinda leaning towards changing it to width=100%, as you suggested. I think it maintains the readability of the table better by not piling everything on top of each other. Bridges, highway signs, etc.

Thanks for following up on the navboxes for the Mississippi River bridges -- I may have glossed over things in my attempt to get everything slammed in at once. Also, I'm working on uploading the rest of the Minnesota highway sign shields. You can take a look at User:Station Attendant/sandbox for a gallery of everything that's been uploaded so far. FYI, a discussion has started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. counties on removing duplicate information from PA county articles (the bulleted lists of cities, boroughs, townships, and CDPs is duplicated by the info in the couty nav boxes). Blair County PA School District Question

When I look at maps of Blair County, the Penn Cambria School District (from Cambria County) goes into Blair County at the borough of Tunnelhill, Pennsylvania (a small area). The Census map shows it here [1] and the PA State map of school districts also shows it here [2] (PDF). However the PA State Income Tax Booklet list (which I use to check what School Districts are in which counties, and which has caught every other case like this) does not list Penn Cambria as a Blair County School District. (Otherewise that part of Blair County would be in the Hollidaysburg Area S.D.). Since you added the School Districts, do you have anyway of checking? I will change the map (to drop it) if needed, but this is annoying me no end and I would like to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 21:14, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I used 2 sources in adding the SD lists, PA Profiles from the PA Dept of Education and Education Names and Addresses from the PA Dept of Education. Neither list Penn Cambria SD as being in Blair County, of course, they seem to assign districts to the counties that they are headquartered. Its just a small sliver of the district in Blair County, but I see no reason not to have it on the list. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
No problemo - The source I use to check the Census Bureau maps is the 2005 PA Income Tax Form Table of School Districts by County (last two pages of this PDF) [3]. It has at least one mistake (one district listed for a county it is not in) and a few typos, but until now has always had the little slivers of overlap listed. I only have three more county SD maps to make (and Adams to upload). There are four counties that are all in one school district (Sullivan, Philadelphia, Cameron and Forest) so I was not going to make separate maps for those, but probably will put a note there (what do you think?). After I get the maps done, I will go through and list all of the counties on school districts that are located in multiple counties (I have done this some but not always). Susquehanna Question

I got from your editing of my bridge addition of the Pennsylvania railroad bridge at Wago/Marietta that it has been demolished. I knew that the Columbia one has been gone since just after the Second World War. But when did they take down the Wago/Marietta one? I forget whether they called that the high route or the low route (high I think). I have been away for a couple of years and when I went back in May and visited, the tracks looked shiny south of Wago junction, but I didn't go further down river to see the bridge. Not sure when it was taken down, but if you look at the Google Earth image (40°03′39″N 76°38′16″W / 40.06083°N 76.63778°W / 40.06083; -76.63778), you can see that the the center spans of the bridge have been demolished. VerruckteDan 21:17, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Terraserver shows it there as of 4/24/1999. Terraserver of bridge I have been there more recently than that, but not in the last 3 years or so. Local.live.com shows a spectacular bird's eye image of it still there but undated. local.live.com of bridge. The Google earth is undated too, but the image is so murky I just can't tell. A stub you created

You originally created the stub Forbes State Forest, Pennsylvania which I have expanded in the last couple of days, and I thought you might like to review it. I was actually hoping to take it to WP:DYK but I don't know if it's interesting enough. I tried to add an image but ran into copyvio problems. If you know anything about adding images and maps it would really help that article a lot! Fair Use Images

Hi, I made a nav box (based on your PA counties nav box) for Hancock County, Ohio and was asked by User:Durin to remove the fair use State Seal of Ohio from it (I couldn't find the Hancock County Seal). I put the PD map of the county in the nav box instead. Since your PA nav boxes have fair use county seals in them, I thought you might want to think about replacing them too. Durin's comment was "Removing fair use image(s) per terms of Wikipedia:Fair_use#Policy item #9 (please see User:Durin/Removal of fair use images for further explanation)." I was starting to change the PA county templates to bring them into consistency with other state templates (e.g.- Template:Pennsylvania, Template:Protected Areas of Pennsylvania, Template:PennsylvaniaTrails) that omit the redundant term (County, State Park, Township) when you reverted my changes. For consistency and for visual appeal (smaller and cleaner) I think that "Twp." should be removed from all templates.Dddstone 15:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Bald Eagle State Forest infobox locator map

Hi Dan, re your substitution of the PA locator map on Bald Eagle State Forest‎, I think the US locator map is better for the PA State Forest articles given the more geographically diffuse nature of the forests (vs. most PA state parks). Bald Eagle is fairly compact but still is in parts of 5 counties, yet the dot is pretty much in one county. The State Forest holdings maps show location in PA too (13 of 20 have these). I also think it is good to be stylistically consistent among the SF articles - look at Buchanan State Forest - where would you put one dot on a PA map for that? I see your point on most of the State Forests. I feel like there's no ideal solution, the US map seems to be too big while the PA map encounters problems with the large parks. So unless someone comes up with a third option, I'm content with the US map. I'll go and revert it back. Thanks for letting me know about the WikiProject. Thanks for reverting - I thought about trying to add a US map to the PA locator map when I made it, but PA is so rectangular there was no good place to put it without making the map much bigger overall or shrinking the PA part too much. For some PA state parks I will use the PA locator map and just put a blob on, for example Bucktail State Park is 75 miles long (a drive along parts of the West Branch Susquehanna River and Sinnemahoning Creek valleys.) List of crossings of the Schuylkill River

We seem to be stepping on each others toes between List of crossings of the Schuylkill River and Chestnut Street Bridge. I think I'll go watch some ball for a while or do some mindless "jack updating" over in WikiProject Ships for a while. I reverted your additions of this template to List of largest suspension bridges. I have a couple of problems with it:

  1. You converted all the meter data to feet. For some bridges the raw information was originally in feet and converted (manually) to meters. Converting it back to feet can introduce errors. If you want to research all hundred-odd bridges to check the numbers be my guest. As the numbers are already there, and I checked their accuracy when I first added the bridges to the list, I see no need to do this.
  2. The template added scores of links to meter and feet, contrary to style guidelines which says they should only be linked on their first occurance. I think the list looks better without m and ft. links displayed as links or plain text. As the template cannot do this, I'd rather not use it.
  3. You removed a link that had nothing to do with meters or feet.
  4. What is the point of using this template, when a number has already been converted? It seems like it would just slow down the servers.

Otherwise, I could see how this template can be very helpful, and will look for occasions to use it. -- Samuel Wantman 04:19, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Changes to convert

Hello! I'm glad you're using {{convert}}.. I think it's quite a useful tool. I added a couple features, if you're interested: |sp=us at the end of the template makes all spellings US versions (meter instead of metre). Also in response to a complaint, |lk=on must be added in order for the units to be linked. There aren't too many pages using the template yet, so it hasn't been much of a hastle—the first instance (per WP:MOS) on a page (or in each section, however you see fit) should carry the |lk=on tag. drumguy8800 C T 11:18, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

The List

Good work with The List. Where did you find the figures? I noticed while visiting census.gov that they had new est.pop. figures but the .csv-files on this address http://www.census.gov/popest/datasets.html didn't have the figures fixed in rows and columns so it would have been very time-demanding to use that source. NOLA-stub

Hi - I see you have created a new stub type, NOLA-stub. As it clearly explains at WP:STUB, and at the top of most stub categories, all new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at WP:WSS/P, so that they can be checked for viability, and to make sure they don't go against either the stub category hierarchy or stub naming conventions. In the case of your new stub type, it was not proposed, and currently contains a mix of both geo-stubs (geographical locations) and general stubs about new orleans. Normally, these would get different stub categories from each other. Furthermore, the template name goes against standard stub template naming guidelines, as expained at WP:WSS/NG. The stub type has been listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries - please make any comments as to the reasons for and possible population of this new stub type. Be warned that it will need to be renamed and may even be nominated for deletion via WP:SFD if it is deemed not to conform to normal stub type criteria.
