• Hi Redrose64, thanks for your reply and links to more information on how to upload files. I contacted a more experienced editor under the section Adopt-a-user and await his reply. I apologise for leaving the same message with four different contributors – I was hoping one of them would reply. (Vectorebus (talk) 19:42, 2 September 2017 (UTC))[reply]

• (talk) – Hi guys, I uploaded this file [Stellenbosch_Monarchs.svg], but the team has changed their name and logo to Stellenbosch Kings in the mean time. Can you please delete this logo for me? Much appreciated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stellenbosch_Monarchs.svg (Vectorebus (talk) 15:39, 14 September 2017 (UTC))[reply]

First, some observations. We don't use the "•" character to make bulleted lists, we use the asterisk - see Help:List. To notify a user, link their home page, not their talk page; and you also need to make the link and add your signature in the same edit - see WP:Echo. To make a link, use double square brackets; and to link a file without displaying it, put a colon between the opening brackets and the word "File". There should be no need to use external link syntax when linking to other Wikipedia pages, see Help:Link.
Anyway, if you want File:Stellenbosch Monarchs.svg to be deleted, add the {{db-author}} tag to it - more at WP:CSD#G7. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:18, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Redrose64, I noticed that you deleted the logo for the article Sharks (rugby union). I can only imagine that the source for the logo was wrong and only had a link to their website as source. I updated the source to the original PDF where I got the SVG logo from. I trust this will solve the image rights dispute. (Vectorebus (talk) 16:30, 27 January 2018 (UTC))[reply]
I didn't delete the image. I removed it (twice now), because it is a non-free image which, if used at Sharks (rugby union) fails to meet WP:NFCCP#10c - I noted this in my edit summary both times, so I don't see why you are under the impression that the source is the issue here. There are ten criteria at WP:NFCCP, some with sub-criteria, and none of them are optional. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:43, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:National Party SA logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Vector images[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for your addition of vector images to articles. I would like to note that wrapping the file like this is using deprecated syntax - and in most cases leaving it like this will automatically produce an appropriately-sized image. If you find that it's not a good size and you want to specify the specific size, you can add the |logo_size = 200px or |image_size = 200px parameter and adjust it as needed. Hope this helps! Jon Kolbert (talk) 18:27, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@JonKolbert Thanks for your message and advice. I tried to change the logo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Jama-ah to a smaller size, both with syntax and |logo_size command without success. Can you please reduce the logo to 150px and I'll have a look at your code later. Regards (Vectorebus (talk) 18:45, 3 October 2017 (UTC))[reply]
I was wrong. {{Infobox political party}} doesn't currently support the logo_size parameter yet. I've submitted an edit request here so it may be added to the template. I will let you know if it is. Thank you! Jon Kolbert (talk) 19:02, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

SVG images[edit]

Hey Vectorebus,

File:Progressive Federal Party logo.svg is too simple to be copyrighted. It needs to be converted to {{PD-simple}}. Also, see my talk page on Commons for a solution to fixing file sizes here on Wikipedia. Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 21:10, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Corkythehornetfan, today I replaced the ITUC logo with a SVG logo I extracted from an official pdf. Surely this logo consists of simple geometric shapes and too simple to be copyrighted? What should the correct Summary and Licensing read for this [[1]]? (Vectorebus (talk) 17:08, 5 November 2017 (UTC))[reply]
Correct, that is way too simple to be copyrighted. Change the {{Non-free use rationale logo}} to {{Information}} and edit the changes that are needed, and the licensing should be changed to {{PD-textlogo}}{{Trademarked}}. Hope that helps! Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 18:10, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This version is incorrect. As mentioned above, the {{Non-free use rationale logo}} is for files that are non-free. Since the file is too simple and consists of only geometric shapes and letters, it needs the {{Information}} template that I placed on the page. Thanks, Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 19:59, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I understand now. I just added the date to complete the Summary. In future I'll use {{Information}} for simple logos. (Vectorebus (talk) 06:47, 6 November 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Non-free svg files[edit]

Hi Vectorebus. I've noticed you've recently converted a number of non-free files from png or other formats to svg. You should be aware that there is some disagreement as to whether such a thing is acceptable per Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. Some of the relevant discussion can be found at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content/Archive 67#Rethinking vector policy Wikipedia talk:Non-free content/Archive 64#Non-free images and SVG and Wikipedia talk:Non-free content/Archive 64#Vector images of non-free logos from unofficial sources, but there are more examples found in the archives of WT:NFCC and WP:MCQ. Also, some of the files you've converted are being adding to articles in a manner which does not comply with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy, so it's probably a good idea to check the file talk pages of the files your replacing or check the edit histories (you may have to go back quite a ways in some cases) to see if the file has been previously removed for some reason. Each use of a non-free file is required to satisfy relevant policy, and it's the responsibilty of those adding said files to an article to clearly show how the particular use is justified per WP:NFCCE. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:25, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Marchjuly asked me to follow up. We do allow non-free SVGs but only if it is an SVG obtained from the entity that holds the copyrights to the logo/imagery; this might be a direct link on a website or may be extracted from an official PDF. User-recreated versions of official logos are not permitted. Looking at some of the uploads, I do question if these are official images (I see SVG artifacts that I would think any profession organization would not have). --MASEM (t) 02:22, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: @Masem: Hi guys, thanks for your contact and messages. I'm a graphic designer and specialize in vector graphics. I wish to upgrade logos in SVG which is the superior format, but also within the legal policy. Especially South African sports logos which have been neglected. I have read all your references and understand that SVG is not low resolution even though the file size is small. As per the rule I search for the original vector logo from the primary licence holder, like this where I extracted the Cricket Hong Kong logo from a pdf on their website. That is also the case with this DA logo which I got from a pdf on their website. I must admit that some SVG logos are copies from low resolution archaic files like this which apparently borders on simple geometry. Which brings me to the Bangladesh national cricket team which, as a test playing cricket nation, I can't believe they don't have a logo on Wikipedia ... Regards (Vectorebus (talk) 19:58, 13 October 2017 (UTC))[reply]
If you want to notify another editor using WP:PING, it will only work on posts which are signed at the time the notification template is added; it won't work if you add the template to previously signed post. So, I'll ping Masem (@Masem:) for you.
As for the svg files, as Masem points out, I guess it all depends upon the source of the original file. I believe this has to do with the way svg works, the fact that such files are not always simply mechanical reproductions as well as WP:NFCC#1 (WP:FREER) and WP:NFCC#3b (WP:IMAGERES). Masem certainly knows more about svgs since he's been dealing with files much longer on Wikipedia than I have, so he can probably better address your questions.
As for Bangladesh cricket logo, many national team logos are licensed as non-free content. There is no automatic use of non-free content on Wikipedia and each use has to satisfy all ten non-free content criteria listed at WP:NFCCP. The non-free use of the Bangladesh cricket logo was discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 18#File:Bangladesh Cricket Board Logo.svg and the consensus was that the file is OK to use in cricket board article, but not the individual team articles. You need to be aware that WP:OTHERIMAGE is not considered to be a justification for non-free use. Anyway, if you would like further clarification on this particular logo, then you can ask the closing admin or at WT:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:25, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free SVG[edit]

Hi, I see you are into some size reduction of svg (page size, of course, as svg are vector drawings) for non-free images. You might like to know some useful links and ideas - and you might have some that can help us! For the recommended max size of a non-free image there is WP:Image resolution - that's 100,000 pixels - of course, it can be smaller and technically makes no difference with an svg as the article page with the image will re-scale as appropriate. I do not know of an quick and easy way to reduce the svg page size (for jpg, png, static gif - we have DatBot6 and RonBot2, which are using the python imaging library to reduce the image), maybe you know a better way to reduce svg? - currently I use the method at User:Ronhjones/SVGreduce, which does work, but each one takes time and there are about 1200 oversized images in Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing to do, and more are likely to come along. I've got the "editsvg" script (from commons) - see bottom entry at at User:Ronhjones/common.js - but that's seems OK only for the very simple images, sometimes adding a width and height results in cropping the svg - and there's no preview to see if it's OK before you save it. Any help of suggestions gratefully received. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:36, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ronhjones, thanks for your message. I've only been on Wikipedia for two months, but have already uploaded dozens of SVG logos. I have learned a lot from my “mentor” Corkythehornetfan who taught me how to reduce SVG file sizes on a SVG editor. Apparently the maximum file size of SVG files should be 300 pixels. The best way is to manually reduce the file size. I follow these steps: 1) First reduce the art board size to say 200 pixels in Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. 2) Then open the SVG file in a code editor like TextEdit or Notepad (I use TextEdit). 3) In about the fifth line you will find x="0px" y="0px". Change this code to wide="xxx" height="xxx" and add the dimensions you see in the next line (the dimensions you set in Illustrator/Inkscape). I hope this helps. Licensing details for coat of arms and emblems[edit]

Hi Corkythehornetfan, I trust you're well. I'm updating some South African coat of arms and emblems. I uploaded a SVG file for the coat of arms of the Northern Cape, but can't find a good example for the Summary and Licensing – the other eight Provinces of South Africa are all over the place. Also, I just uploaded a SVG file for the South African Navy. Can you please have a look at my Licensing details, or refer me to a correct example or editor who should be bale to give advise? Regards (Vectorebus (talk) 16:13, 11 December 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for the message. I'm not to entirely sure on how the South African government works, but I recommend asking Marchjuly for advice on this one. They are my "go-to person" when I have questions regarding licensing. Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 23:51, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would probably be better to ask at WP:MCQ since there tend to be many more people watching that noticeboard who know much more about image copyright than I do. I will say, however, that if you're converting/updating anything which is non-free content from a non-svg format to svg, then you should try to only use an official svg file released by the original copyright holder if possible. There is some disagreement among editors who work on image copyright issues about whether converting say a png file of an svg file is allowed under Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. This has been touched on above in #Non-free svg files, so I'm only mentioning it as a reminder. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:13, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Marchjuly, I posted my question on WP:MCQ where I see you contribute often. I understand there are some disagreement about replacing PNG/JPG files with SVG and don't want to infringe on any copyright. If I do replace with SVG files however, it will ideally be with original SVG files like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SANDF_emblem.svg. I'm quite good with the technical aspects of design, but not very familiar with non-free content. Regards (Vectorebus (talk) 16:24, 12 December 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:07, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Telkom logo old.svg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Telkom logo old.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Need your help for India National Team jersey design[edit]

Hello, Recently following your activity at football kit pattern template, i am here to ask you for a help. Recently a new jersey design unveiled for India national football team for coming AFC Asian cup, its different from general straight stripes or parallel stripes, or boxes. I have gone through Template:Football kit/pattern list#Stripes 2, but didn't find such stripes on arm. Here is the new jersey design, https://www.foxsportsasia.com/football/asian-football/afc-asian-cup/1002013/afc-asian-cup-2019-india-national-team-kit-and-price-revealed/ It has "orange" colour tiger stripes on arm, pattern of which i didn't get anywhere. Can anyone please design the "home" and "away" color for the article, to put in the infobox. It will be a great help. Than you Dey subrata (talk) 17:01, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Dey subrata, thanks for your contact. I had a look at the new football kit and see the stripes on the arms are quite thin and intricate. I'll have a look later if I can design the stripes. You only need one set as the background will be transparent for you to use on both blue and white. Vectorebus (talk) 06:41, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No need of such complex design, just make some wavy lines like "S" in the vertical deriction or any wavy pattern. i think that will be ok. Dey subrata (talk) 18:00, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you , high five!! thats very tricky design, but you did it!! Thank you, thanks a lot. Many of the editor whom i approached were reluctant for the complex design but, but some one finally did :) Have a nice day!! Dey subrata (talk) 23:12, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help for PSL Jerseys[edit]

Hi there Vectorebus, I am Anzan7, an avid cricket supporter and frequent editor for anything cricket related. Currently the Pakistan Super League season 4 is ongoing and all of the primary kits have been released. Some of the teams' kits are quite intricate and detailed and, i have not been able to find any kits that resemble them from the football kit template wiki page. I have seen that you have designed many kits, e.g. for the Mzansi Super League, and i'm thoroughly impressed with your skills in this respect. I was wondering if, at your convenience, you would be able to help design these kits, seeing as you are way more professional than i am at this! Now, it's entirely up to you whether you want to do it or not, but i have been hard-pressed to find anyone who would be willing to design kits for cricket, and probably not at the same level of quality as yours. Even just one or two would be fantastic. Nonetheless, here are the kits: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?281320-Which-Pakistan-Super-League-team-has-the-best-kit-for-2019 For Lahore Qalandars: https://twitter.com/lahoreqalandars/status/1096105281338122240 Thank you so much. Have a great day! Anzan7 (talk) 20:25, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anzan7, thanks for your contact. I'm not very active on Wikipedia lately, but will see if I can illustrate one or two of the PSL jerseys. I see all six of the kits exits, but maybe I can draw some of the more more complicated jerseys. Regards, Vectorebus (talk) 19:01, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I would greatly appreciate that. Yes, again it's totally up to you, some of them are more intricate than the others, like Lahore's is pretty simple so you could pretty much ignore that one. Again, thanks so much. All the best, Anzan7 (talk) 20:02, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anzan7, please have a look at this uniform for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karachi_Kings. Vectorebus (talk) 17:05, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. RonBot (talk) 17:06, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, African Democratic Change/meta/color, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello, Vectorebus. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "meta/color".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:55, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Super 14 logo.svg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Super 14 logo.svg.

If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. plicit 14:36, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
