Shake Your Money Maker

With all due respect, I don't see the point in plaguing my work on this article with such an amount of [citation needed] tags. You just put about 10 of them in the article yet there are reliable sources (Allmusic, Rolling Stone) for most of what is written! You even deleted one reference, which was from The Crowes' official website archives. It took me quite some time to find these information and their sources and to put references, so I feel that I deserve an explanation. SchwartzPadre (talk) 13:13, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure thing. First of all, blackcrowes.net is a fan site and not an official TBC website, so it's not a reliable source. The flags I put in are because those specific facts are not found in the references you provided. For example, in this sentence – "By the end of the year, Shake Your Money Maker had sold one million copies[citation needed] and would eventually sell two million more,[6] thus receiving triple platinum certification" – I added the flag because the Allmusic source only attests to the album's triple platinum certification and says nothing about when the first million was sold. (Aside: I see this source also I've taken Lions (album) to featured article status, and the citation standards are rigorous at that level. You seem interested in making valuable contributions to TBC articles, so I think enforcing such standards now – I mean it is official policy, after all – will help you become a better editor and will help improve these articles faster. —Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 13:58, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Tons Of Sobs UK Release Date Dispute

(rv - your reference is an unreliable fan site. The liner notes specifically say the album's release was delayed until March so that The Hunter, recorded in December, could be included.)

Regarding your comment above, if allrightnow.com is 'an unreliable fan site' how come the link for the site is at the end of Phil Sutcliffe's liner notes for the Free (1969) Remastered CD? He obviously thinks that it is a worthwhile and reliable source, could it be possible that he made a mistake? It wouldn't be the first time that I've seen factual mistakes in CD Liner Notes. I shall dig out my copy of Heavy Load, the definitive Free Biography, hopefully that will settle the matter once and for all. Thanks. Forever Seer (talk) 12:47, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

That URL is in my copy of Tons of Sobs, as well, but I'm not sure it was his inclusion. Possibly someone at the record company was impressed by the site and included it with the other URLs. You see a lot of that in CD liner notes from the mid- to late-90s...maybe not as much by 2001, but it's still possible. Anyway, I find it difficult to defer to the commonly-reported release date of November 1968 given that Sutcliffe is so specific about the delay and why it happened. If Sutcliffe's assertions are true, I would imagine Heavy Load would cover it, as well, so I look forward to hearing what you come up with. Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 13:24, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Heavy Load confirms that the The Hunter was recorded in early December 1968 thus the album was delayed from its original November 1968 release and finally released on 14th March 1969. Although, promo versions of the LP did slip out before then. The book also quotes the woman who runs the allrightnow.com website quite a lot, so I think we can assume she/the website is a reliable source. I've updated the Tons of Sobs page, ok? — Precedingunsigned comment added by Forever Seer (talkcontribs) 13:10, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Pyromania (Album)

The "Foolin" single was released in Canada as well as the US. "Too late for love" was released worldwide because it charted at #7 on the US Mainstream Rock tracks. — Precedingunsigned comment added by Jamcad01 (talkcontribs) 21:48, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

It turns out "Foolin'" was released in places besides the US and Canada, but not in all the usual places (e.g. Europe). So what are we accomplishing by specifying an incomplete list of countries in the infobox? Heck, what would we accomplish if the list were complete? I think the best way to go is to save such information for the individual song pages. As for "Too Late for Love", charting in the US is not evidence that the song was released as a single. B-sides and album tracks sometimes get airplay, too, and that was the case with "Too Late for Love", as far as I can tell. If you have other information, add a citation. Michigan city infobox maps

Hey there, I see you reverted my restoration of the county/state maps for a handful of Michigan cities. You were responsible for their original replacement, as well. Can you explain why we should prefer the pushpin maps? And why just for eight Michigan cities? Thanks. Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 02:26, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

The pushpin maps provide some of the surrounding area to maybe provide more information to someone unfamiliar with the area.--Asher196 (talk) 01:01, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Is there reason to use the maps you are changing to? I don't want to start a war. I should have talked to you before my reverting spree.--Asher196 (talk) 01:04, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for engaging me this time.
Yes, it's true that the pushpin maps give more context. It shows that the state of Michigan is mostly surrounded by water, and it shows that the state borders other states and another country. Both the pushpin state map and the county-and-state map show precisely where the city/village is located within the state. But the county-and-state map shows the city borders and gives an idea of how large (in terms of area) the city is. It also shows whether the city borders other incorporated places – the reader can instantly discern whether a small town is in the middle of nowhere or part of a large metropolis. This is the kind of detail that is important to city-level pages. That we lose some context is okay – if the reader isn't familiar with Michigan, will showing him unlabeled portions of Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Ontario and the Great Lakes be of much use? I kind of doubt it. At any rate, the Michigan page is linked in the first sentence, and the reader can find broader context there. I'll wait to hear what you think before making further changes... Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 01:19, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
You have a good point. I will not object if you change the maps to the county/state maps.--Asher196(talk) 21:57, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Honestly, that was an unfair and forgive me, crappy review. Even if an article has a lot of prose issues, hence "On the Floor" (which I'm reviewing), you are supposed to not be lazy and post a full review unless the article is in tatters, which it isn't, so I can still fix it and benefit from it. Same thing for Jez, which is why I didn't wait to re-nominate, because he decided to not even give me pointers or anything, just fail. That review is unacceptable and completely unfair and rude of you, considering its been waiting for over 2 months to be reviewed. You could have at least put given it a complete prose review and put it on hold for 7 days. I practically wrote it in 4, so there is no such thing as there isn't enough time.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:31, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

The "pointer" I gave to you was to enlist the help of The Guild of Copy Editors to improve the prose to the point that it's "reasonably well written". I would hope that your primary goal here is to make contributions that we can all be proud of, and that accumulating 's is secondary, and so you will do just as I recommended. Your indignation at my review and lack of 's, however, make me fear otherwise. At any rate, once you've improved the prose I invite you renominate the article and ping me. I'd be happy to give a full review then. (I did the same thing for The Sword (band), even though there was a two-year gap between nominations.) Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 17:53, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Of course its not about racking green icons, but my issue is that it keeps getting failed, and I don't receive (for the second time), constructive criticism in how to better the article. Just try and understand that after two months, it was a bit upsetting. Sure, I will do what I can and re-nominate probably next week. I'll let you know, thanks.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:59, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I see where you're coming from – I know there is always a backlog of GANs – but there are no due dates on these articles. (You'll probably find that getting copyediting help will take a while, too, unless you seek out, say, someone who's written a music FA and might be a fan of Mariah Carey [hint: I don't meet the second criterion]). Now I hope you'll see where I'm coming from as a reviewer: When you don't attempt to address the issues raised by the previous reviewer and immediately renominate, it looks like you're uninterested in improving the page and instead are seeking someone who will not give a rigorous review. Glad that's not your intention, though, and good luck making the improvements. Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 18:10, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm not trying to pull the wool over your eyes, but you have to understand that I do not have that same access, so sometimes articles seem to lead onto a point, and then turn out to be false. Its a bit confusing. As I said, later today I will search again for sources, and re-read Nickson's book. If I cannot find solid claims for those, then I will alter/remove them from the article. Aside from that, I believe the others have been dealt with. Thanks.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 18:02, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi again. So I had an independent copy-editor (real-life person) do a c/e for me and I trimmed down a lot of the "fancruft". I also think I have addressed the last few remaining issues. Please check back :)--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 22:53, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay. I've requested it be c/e by a copy-editor here on Wikipedia. Please bare with me as the final changes are made.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:09, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi again. So I guess we are just waiting for the GOCE to take action :S. Can I ask you for a small favor? You mentioned you are able to read a lot for those pay-per-view articles, so this one is causing me some trouble. Can you copy and paste me the text on this so I know what it says about the song? Thanks anyway :)--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 00:44, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
The article title is "REVIEWS - Records released 12.12.05: SINGLES". The relevant section is just this:

Mariah Carey Don't Forget About Us (Def Jam 9889758)

This single is lifted from the new platinum version of the huge comeback album The Emancipation Of Mimi. A beautiful balled written by Carey and produced by Jermaine Dupri, it should nudge sales of the album towards double platinum, helped by a brilliant Paul Hunter- directed video, a C-listing at Radio One and an A-listing at Capital.

Thanks for your copy-edit. I don't disagree with your changes, but I find you deflate the prose a bit too much, making it read like "lifeless prose". I don't mind though, if you feel its best this way, then okay. I appreciate the time you put into the c/e :) Anyways, I believe I took care of round three as well, so please check back again :D--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 02:12, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Trent Daavettila

Hi. Thanks for your kind message on my talk page. I've just looked at your latest changes and suspect a possible cause why the article creator may have tagged it: he wrote "honours", so may be British or Australian and may have been thrown by some US phrasing in the article. This article should be US, and I placed {{Use American English}} in it as you may have seen, but I am a Brit, so please don't hesitate to alter any British English you may spot.

By the way, "walk on" in that sense is unintelligible to Brits, so we're forced to follow the link. I was hoping we could find some plain English intelligible to both.

Cheers :) --Stfg (talk) 20:28, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I sensed that you made some changes to improve comprehension by those outside the US or with no interest in hockey, and the majority of those changes looked good to me. I think "walk-on" is an important distinction to make, however, because joining a college hockey team in that manner is infrequently attempted. (It's more common with American football.) Following the link will probably be necessary, but maybe the sentence could be rephrased to say "attempted to join the Division I Michigan Tech Huskies hockey team as a walk-on", so the innocuous-looking phrase isn't glossed over? Two Hearted River''(paddle /fish) 20:43, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, good idea. I've put that in. It's less confusing because this way it's obvious that we're dealing with a special term, as opposed to the slight double-take I experienced with "walk on [to a team]" as compared to, say, "walk on [to a football field]". Thanks. --Stfg (talk) 22:01, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Black Crowes

Re the two samples in the By Your Side article, I'm concerned that if the FURs aren't strong enough, it could be used as a reason for certain editors to oppose the article's promotion and perhaps bully you into removing them. While FAC's most staunch anti-non-free opposer appears to have vanished off Wikipedia, there are still some who despise any copyrighted work appearing in an article. The reason I brought up the Traffic comparison is that having a sample from "Virtue and Vice" and a quote underneath is near-pointless without a sample from Traffic (which would mean having another non-free sample). I recognise that the slide guitar and harmonica are mentioned in relation to the Kickin' My Heart Around sample but someone could just say "I can hear what a harmonica sounds like without having to listen to a non-free sample". Bear in mind that this is just my opinion of what I think somebody else might think of the samples - I'm just advising you to cover all avenues (and you never know, I might be wrong and FAC reviewers might ask you to put in more samples!)Bradley0110 (talk) 14:10, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

I certainly appreciate your comments on this – you've got me looking through recent music album FACs now. The Basement Tapes recently passed FAC with sample captions that I think we'd agree are ideal. On the other hand, Illinois (album) recently passed with captions that merely reproduce lyrics. I don't see how a music sample can further illustrate lyrics, so I'm surprised that one got through. (The FURs weren't scrutinized in either case.) In my FALions (album), I changed the sample captions and FURs to the current version based on specific concerns at FAC, though that was three years ago. I'll see whether I can find FUR concerns in failed FACs... Two Hearted River (paddle / fish)14:20, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Hey, Two Hearted River. I have an update for you on the status of First Time (Lifehouse song). I took your advice and applied it all throughout the article. According to this, I have expanded the article from 13,747 bytes (when you saw it) to 18,258 bytes (where it is at right now). I found quality information to expand the background of the song, how it is composed (with an analysis of the song's lyrics), and have expanded the "Music video" and "Promotion" sections. Therefore, I believe the article is now at a point where it is broad in its coverage and can be fully reviewed. Thanks for your time. Rp0211 (talk2me) 21:26, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

All points raised by the reviewer have been addressed, the only thing stopping the article from being passed is your queries about those two sections. Feel free to c/e the Music video Synopsis, but I am really gonna fight for the description of the AMAs to remain as it is, because it is in my own words and I wrote it, with reference to only a couple of quotes (Kaufman is also noted at the start). It doesn't matter who writes the description, that order will be same every time no matter who writes it, because that is the order in which the events happen in the performance, and there is nothing wrong with that and it is obviously the correct way to write about something. TEOM

HI THR. Thanks for your comments on the FAC, I appreciate it :) I have a few questions before I comment on the FAC. I agree that I should include release dates in the prose, but are you suggesting that I remove the entire "release date" chart?--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:58, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, unless you can justify its inclusion. Two Hearted River (paddle /fish) 01:18, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, I don't see why not to have a chart detailing the release of the album in several major countries. It was released twice, as an album and re-edition, so I think it really helps the article. If you prefer, maybe I can whittle it to the major countries and remove the smaller territories such as Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Norway and Mexico? I'd really prefer to not completely remove it. What do you think?--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 02:29, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
I think the best thing to do is cover the major countries in prose and leave out the table. (Do mention Mexico because somehow they were first...and that should be the date in the infobox.) Two Hearted River (paddle / fish)03:15, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Okay. I removed the box and made the rest of the fixes the article and replied to each one on the FAC page. Please re-visit :)--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 03:31, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Great. I removed all the critical stuff from the M&L section (took like a paragraph). The only thing is that small introduction paragraph. I really feel its necessary. I hope I can earn your support and that small disagreement won't be a big deal. Anyways, thanks a lot buddy!--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 18:32, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi THR. Not trying to rush you, but I will probably be away for a month starting in a week, so if possible, can we try and manage the issues by then? I have answered to all your concerns. Thanks!--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 21:49, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Question

Hi. I do not remember if we have talked before. Can you tell me what is this? I saw my name several times there. Jivesh boodhun (talk / Make sure you give 4 a try!!!) 17:40, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Lions cover photo credit (re)

Exactly, the shot was taken for his stock company Kimball Stock. This was/is a common practice by Ron Kimball through his career. He would take shots that could sell, rather than wait for assignments. Yimbos (talk) 00:15, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Writer of "The Hunter"

I had corrected one of the writers of the song "The Hunter" on the page Tons of Sobs from Carl Wells to Junior Wells. You have undo that. Unfortunately, we're both right. Carl Wells was a pseudonym of Junior Wells. I'm to unfamiliar with wikipedia to know what is the right way to display that. "Mothers of the Disappeared"

Hi Two Hearted River, thanks for reviewing "Mothers of the Disappeared". I think I've addressed all of your comments, but if there is anything further I would be happy to fix it. Cheers, Melicans (talk, contributions) 16:10, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank You

Thank you for the barnstar! It was all kind of by accident I got those photos of Trent Daavettila‎, a friend of mines father got a job zaming the ice for the Express so we went to support him and I figured I could get a couple of shot of the Express and the few players that have articles. I didn't even know who they were playing but I recognized Daavettila‎'s name from the GA nom. It took all night to get a decent shot that wasn't blurry. Good thing that guy has a unique name or I wouldn't have tried so hard to get the shot. Thanks again I really appreciated it. Cheers.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 21:44, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

GA review

Hi Two Hearted River, I know it's been awhile, but I was wondering if you could take a look at my response at Talk:Better Get to Livin'#GA Review. Thanks! Kaldari (talk) 01:38, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

FAC oppose

Hi, thank you for your stance here. I'd just like to ask you that, if you think the issues you've mentioned are easily fixed, I strongly urge you to withdraw your oppose temporarily pending the appropriate changes. If these changes aren't carried, I would have to problem if you reinstate your oppose but in the meantime, I think the issues that you've mentioned can be fixed within the next week.--Sp33dyphil ©© 01:52, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

I'll strike my oppose when the issues are resolved, thanks. Two Hearted River (paddle /fish) 02:59, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Your comments had been addressed, please have a look over it again. Thanks --Sp33dyphil ©© 10:04, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

I have done my best...

... to fix your issues. At least, please see my replies. I have even re-written the composition and removed all quote boxes. It does not matter if you do not support but see if you can at least cut your oppose. Sincerely, Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:56, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
